Blue Blood

Chapter 5 - What to do?

After waking up I leave Eientei guided by Tewi, one of the rabbit girls. It's impossible to find your way through the bamboo forest without a rabbit girl or Fujiwaro no Mokou afterall. I wonder why they put the only hospital in Gensokyo in the middle of such a dastardly forest?

Arata:"Tewi, are there any shops in Gensokyo or do I have to barter with people living here?"

Tewi:"There's a human village at the base of Hakurei Shrine that sells anything other than magical ingredients, no magician is going to pick them and not use them for experiments afterall."

I asked because I don't want Yukari the peeper to question how I know about the village.

After exiting the forest I seperate with Tewi and head towards Hakurei Shrine, I know the human village is near the base of it but I can't find It do to it being protected from Yokai. Yokai can only see it if they've been to it before, even my godly mana sense cant detect it. I think it's the affect of whatever yokai hides the very history of the village, I need to create my own history inside it to know where it is. It keeps any yokai from the outside Yukari would deem dangerous from finding the humans and disturbing them.

Reaching the base of the mountain I travel around looking for it, unable to so much as locate tracks or paths leading to it. This yokai is good. I wander aound for an hour and a half until I find a grey haired gorgeous maid walking towards the shrine from the direction of the lake I saw when flying with Reimu. She's holding a basket on one arm and a list in her off hand.

I jog towards her while questioning, I don't want her to pass the village barrier before I'm close.

Arata:"Excuse me! My name is Arata Shinohara, Tewi told there's a human village near here and I can't find it. I'm getting hungry and don't want to eat just meat for breakfast. Could you lead me to it?"

Sakuya:"A newcomer? (they call humans outsiders since the no harming humans doesn't apply to outsiders, yokai can easily join Gensokyo though. Humans need to become mages to stop being called outsiders.) My name is Sakuya Izayoi, maid of the scarlet devil mansion, I'm currently fetching food to restock my mistress's mansion. You can follow me to the village market, though if you bother the humans Reimu will exterminate you."

I make small talk with her on the way to the village, not taking my off of her since I'm worried she'll pass some sort of barrier making me lose her.

Arata:"Scarlet Devil mansion? Only a Vampire would live in such a place, you're not going to tell me your masters last name is Scarlet as well are you?" I might be pushing it, but I wanted to say It.

Sakuya:"My master is indeed a Vampire, and her name is Remilia Scarlet! Scarlet because no vampire has eyes as red as hers."

You can see the pride she oozes that doesn't belong to her but Remilia.

Arata:"If your master really is the Vampire Reimu told me about, I'll probably visit Scarlet Devil Mansion in the future, I hope you take care of me at that time."

We continue with the small talk as we pass what I guess is the range of the ability used by the yokai hiding the village. It's a quaint place, looking cozy with a mishmash of different styles. Some japanese houses, some European. I follow Sakuya since she probably knows the best sellers in the market.

From the ingredients she's putting together it looks like curry, maybe she heard about it from Meiling? I buy some spices using the money from my magic sac that will go good with it and give them to her. Touching her hand and leaving my Blue Blood scent on her, I'm testing Remilia's resistance to my blood. Now I just have to let her know where I'm staying so I can see If Remilia tries to hunt me down.

Sakuya:"While you've chosen good spices, it's exactly because of this I can't just take them from you. I will have to refuse your kindness."

Arata:"I told you, since your mistress is a Vampire I'll be visiting her in the future. Think of this as payment for whatever tea you make for me. I have to go set up my house in the hot springs region between the forest of the lost and the human village later so I need to get my shopping done quickly, I will seperate from you here."

It took a while but I convinced her and we seperated, though she was confused why I would visit because she's a vampire. She's the type to not worry about it and just let Remilia know I'm visiting in the future, Remilia will smell me and ask what I told her so I'm not worried she won't learn of me. Adding to me being a newcomer, If she really wants to eat me she'll come see if I'm a human outisder and she's allowed to.

The forest of the lost is south of the human village while the slope of hakurei shrine is east of it. The forest of magic Alice and Marisa live in is north of the village while Scarlet Devil Mansion is west of the forest of magic near the misty lake.

I want to build my house in the edge of the forest of the lost where the underground hotsprings barely reach, between the forest and the village. If I set up enchantments and reinforce the hotspring and water it will keep getting better and start nourishing both the body and the spirit. Also if I set up in the forest of magic I'm worried Marisa will steal from my Herb garden.

Yukari will know I'm scheming against Remilia, but she will be fine with it when she finds out fully about my species. Either her and her old women friends already knowing about Blue Bloods or she will find out when Hieda no Akyuu records my species.

Heading up the mountain to Reimu's shrine, I think about how much to donate. I'll do 500 yen, thats about $4.50. Pretty cheap for saving this lords life so I'll give her some of the food I cook, though I would need to anyways since I need to borrow her kitchen.

Reaching close to the top a calming feeling like only Yggdrasil gives me washes over me, I guess I didn't notice the first time since the power of Yggdrasil was actually washing over me. I hear the calming sound of a straw broom sweeping, she must be bored since she could use her powers to sweep faster. She looks over at me as I crest the mountain, she's in front of her home instead of the Shrine.

Reimu:"Arata, should you really be walking around so soon? I'm suprised Eirin didn't make you stay longer so she could charge more for the bed."

Arata:"I told you, I might not look like It but I'm a vampire. A night of rest after Eirins work and another healing spell and I'm almost fine. I just can't fight at full strength."

Reimu:"There are few people in all of Gensokyo that can heal that fast, you really are a cheat against all of the bullet hell. But since you came back so soon does that mean you're leaving Gensokyo? I told you Remilia wouldn't hurt you, you should stay a little longer before making up your mind."

She looks concerned I will return, she probably doesn't like to see yokai be forgotten.

Arata:"No actually, I came to donate to your shrine."

I say as I put 500 yen in the box.

Arata:"That and ask if I can borrow your kitchen. I can cook on a camp fire but It's hard to make desserts on one. I'll pay you in cheesecake.

Her eyes light up at donation, I expected it to happen. But I didn't expect them to brighten at dessert, I thought they would brighten after I offered the cheesecake. She let's me use her kitchen but gives a stern warning about not making a mess. I start preheating the oven and wok while mixing the dessert ingredients using reinforcement magic learned from EMIYA on all of the ingredients as I go. Reinforcement magic can reinforce a muscles strenth or a swords sharpness, the nutrition and taste of ingredients is no problem. Though it takes finer control.

After I finish mixing the desserts the oven is heated, maybe it's so fast because it's a magic oven not an electric one. I put the pan of cheese cake and carrot cake in the oven, I'm glad they're cooked at the same temperature. As the dessert's cook I keep using reinforcement on them while I make my main meal of beef stir fry with broccoli and other vegetables, reinforcing them as I go, after the stir fry gets done I take the cheese cake out of the oven and the carrot cake not long after.

Usually here is where you flip the carrot cake onto a wire rack to cool and put the cheesecake in the fridge. But with magic I make the carrot cake room temperature and the cheese calke cold. Spreading the icing with crushed almond I mixed when I mixed the cakes onto the carrot cake and whipped cream and cherries that I renforced on the cheese cake they're finished and I start eating my stir fry.

After finishing I walk out to Reimu, her eyes light up and I have to wonder if she flew on her way towards me. Though she didn't look in a hurry while doing it. Sitting down on her porch she pulls out tea and a small table, as she pour the tea I use reinforcement on the leaves. She looks at them curiously, as a priestess she can feel the mana in them getting purer and becoming more abundant.

Arata:"I call it reinforcement, I don't know If other species can do it but because of my species control over mana I find it easy to pour mana into things. If I use it on a sword it will get sharper and more durable, but if I use it on ingredients when cooking they get tastier and more nutritious. You shouldn't finish your cake too fast, I wont give you more than three."

I tell her about reinforcement because if Yukari is listening, her knowing about my abilities will make her less likely to kill me or see me as a threat to Gensokyo. As Reimu sips the tea and tastes it, I forget completely about Yukari because her eyes light up again. As she slowly savors the tea she looks at me like she doesn't want me to leave. I'm sorry but I can't pour you tea every day. We slowly enjoy the tea while eating some cake, making small talk.

Arata:"Tell me how you like the cakes, I need to know if they're good by your standards since I've never tasted food from Gensokyo."

Reimu:"They're great! I've never had tea so good, let along the cakes! I don't make a habbit of letting yokai visit since they scare off the human donors, but you can visit anytime as long as I can eat this every now and then."

She doesn't like yokai visiting for the sole reason they scare off all of the humans that donate to the shrine. We continue talking while I ask about the magicians in Gensokyo, I wan't to compare their magic with magic from outside. She tells me of Alice and Marisa in the forest of magic, she almost forgets about Rinnosuke's shop at the entrance of the forest of magic in front of the human village. She keeps shoplifting from him and forgets about him? Poor Rinnosuke, I felt so bad for him I didn't notice Yukari using the gap to steal a slice of carrot cake and cheese cake.

After finishing my talks with Reimu and leaving behind a piece of carrot cake and an extra cheese cake I put the rest in my magic sac and walk down the shrine heading towards the hotsprings in front of the forest of the lost, maybe I can set up a hotsprings inn in the future to make money?

If I made food for a living I would have to keep making food but with the hotsprings I could set it up and hire people, or make a homonculus. Now that I think of it a homonculus would be better than anyone I could get in Gensokyo, I don't think humans would visit if I left it to Kappas since they sometimes eat children.

So far today I've set up a test for Remilia, made a good impression on Sakuya, Improved my standing In Reimu's eyes, found out my cooking is good enough to get small favors from her, found out about all of the magicians in Gensokyo from Reimu so I'll have an excuse for knowing about them, decided where to build my home and found out my future source of income. I still have half a day ahead of me, today Is going to be very productive. I just hope another phoenix doesn't shit on my day.
