An Inevitable Fate?

They became warier now!

"Also, didn't you make an entrance with Mr. Darren as your date to the banquet? What's your relationship with him?"

"I... That-"

"I remember! Mr. Lee also came with a female partner for the banquet! Why did you come separately if you both are married?"

The reporters bombarded the couple with a series of questions.

Rachel had the urge to run away from there leaving everything behind!

Before they could ask more questions, Aaron's phone rang in the room.

"Excuse me."

He answered the phone call which was from a familiar number.

"Boss! Mission accomplished! The great knight in his shining armor has saved the damsel in distress! The beauty is safe! What will be my reward this-" Time?

Ding! The call ended.

"Did I say I have finished with the announcement?"

He made a signal to Austin.

'Now what? What else is there? Damn, this guy is treating me like his f.u.c.k.i.n.g assistant! I'm the PR manager here, alright?'

He searched the package more all the while cursing Aaron's ancestors. But to his surprise, he found a USB flash drive. His eyes widened.

Aaron signaled him to play the USB.

Soon, pictures started to fill the screen. The crowd gasped aloud.

"As you can see, these are our engagement photos. It was held in Rachel's mansion a month ago. We both knew each other for the past four years, we both wanted it to be a private event so, no media were allowed. Except for a few important guests no others were invited. Similarly, a week back we both registered our marriage in the civil affairs bureau with just our family members."

"My father-in-law wanted to announce our marriage to everyone on the banquet's day, to make it special for us, hence we decided to make an entrance separately to keep the suspense. But unexpectedly, someone exposed our pictures that were taken in secret. This led to a series of misunderstandings about our relationship. I sincerely apologize for that."

"You said there were rumors about Darren being Rachel's fiance? Just as you said, it is nothing but a rumor. He is a childhood friend of Rachel. To be exact, he's like a brother to her. There is nothing wrong with taking her brother as a companion for the event, right? And next, about my date? She is my secretary, that's all."

The room fell silent after that.

Rachel's mouth was about to touch the ground.

No wonder, he had asked her to take pictures with him before coming to the company.

Everything felt like a dream to her. She wanted to die on spot rather than hearing his nonsense. Seriously, who would believe his bed-time story? Hah, they were not fools, okay?

"My goodness, they both were engaged before?"

"I can't believe this, they were a couple for a long time! It was all just a misunderstanding!"

"Now, everything makes sense! Mr. Colin had indeed said that he had specially invited Mr. Lee for the banquet. He even said that he had a personal announcement to make. No wonder, they both were close."

"Right, we all misunderstood Mr. Lee and Ms. Rachel's relationship. The article must have caused a mess to them. Sigh!"

Rachel's mouth twitched.

'They believed? Just with a few photos and a cooked up stories? Can't they tell that the pictures have tampered? Sigh, they are... naive. But, these pictures... indeed look real.'

"Are there any more questions?"

Aaron scanned the area with his sharp eyes. He had never spoken more than two sentences at a time in the entire novel but, for their future's sake, he gave a speech today!

Seeing that the reporters being silent, he took the signal and got up to leave.

"But, what about Mr. Colin? He fainted on the stage."

"Oh, we almost forgot! What explanation would you give for this, Mr. Lee?"

They started raising their voice, expecting to find a loophole in the story.

But Aaron simply said a sentence before leaving with Rachel.

"Health issues, he's old after all."

Excuse me?

Rachel wanted to hit him on his head! Her father was perfectly fine, not old at all!

The reporters acted swiftly and started to take pictures of them.

"Mr. Lee, Mrs. Lee, can you both pose for our camera? We would like to write an article about this."

A young reporter asked eagerly, blocking their path. Aaron observed him carefully. The boy looked so young with a sincere smile. Others had asked the same but he had declined without batting an eye.

But, this guy?

"Sure."

He slipped his hand around Rachel's waist and posed with a rare smile.

Rachel looked stunned but nevertheless, she composed her smile before posing.

The young reporter thanked them repeatedly for allowing him to take a picture. He looked more enthusiastic than others.

"Let's go wifey,"

The security guards acted as a human barrier to make way for the couple.

Aaron pulled her along with him, still clutching her small waist with his big palm.

The action looked so real and smooth as if they have been together for many years. As they made their way towards her cabin, she heard the comments behind.
