An Inevitable Fate?

Chapter 73 - 73: The press conference. (4)

Rachel's phone beeped again.

It was from an unknown number. This time, it was simply a photo without any message.

Seeing Jane in that situation, Rachel's face twisted in pain. Her phone slid off from her hand, she crouched down and sobbed.

She wanted to ask for help, very badly.

She had never felt so useless in her entire life before.

Wiping her tears, she got into the car, she had only one option in front of her.

Soon, she found herself in front of Lee Industries building. The building looked majestic with 'Lee Industries' written in bold letters.

She tried to look calm so that no one would doubt her.

"Hello, how can I help you?"

The receptionist at the front desk asked with a polite smile.

"I'm Rachel. I'm here to see Mr. Lee. Is he available?"

Rachel's pale face along with her bloodshot eyes, made the receptionist narrow her eyes.

"Miss, do you have an appointment?"

"No... Actually... Can you inform him that I have come?"

The receptionist sized the woman in front of her. She was wearing nothing but casual clothes. Her top was a little wet due to perspiration. She didn't look like a person who has come to meet the CEO for business purposes.

"Give me a second, Miss."

The receptionist called his secretary, Sarah Paul.

"There is a guest named by Ms. Rachel, asking for Mr. Lee. Should I send her? ... Okay... Alright."

"Miss, have a seat first. I will let you know soon. Do you want something to drink?"

"Thanks, I'm fine."

Rachel went to sit on the sofa. She kept fiddling with her fingers in anxiousness.

On the top floor of the building, Sarah knocked on the door before entering.

She saw the man standing in front of the french window with his hands tucked inside the pocket.

'Don't tell me, he is standing like that from the past one hour. Why did he even come to the office if he's not going to work? Sigh!'

The article about their boss and Rachel had spread like a forest fire in the business circle but the former was acting as if he was not the male lead.

Earlier, he had asked the PR department not to release anything against the article.

Sigh, only God knows what's running in their boss's head!

"Sir?"

The man didn't acknowledge her presence. Again!

"Sir, Ms. Rachel has come to visit you. Should I inform the help desk to send her?"

But in reality, she already knew the answer. She was just doing her work.

Aaron finally turned and saw his secretary. Did he hear wrong? Rachel?

"Whom did you say?"

"Ms. Rachel has come to our office looking for you. The receptionist has asked her to wait in the lobby. Should I-"

"What are you still waiting for? Ask her to come to my office. Wait, you fetch her for me. Soon!"

"Ye...Yes sir."

The poor secretary exited the room to personally invite Rachel.

The cl.i.c.k.i.n.g sound of the heels brought Rachel back to the real world.

"This way, please."

Rachel followed her with heavy footsteps. She was drenched in sweat due to nervousness.

Sarah knocked on the room and left before informing Rachel to enter.

After taking a deep breath, Rachel entered.

It was a spacious office decorated with a grey-white theme. But she didn't have time and the heart to appreciate it.

Aaron was still standing in the same place but his eyes looked more enthusiastic.

"Have a seat."

Rachel shook her head.

He waited patiently for her to speak. Her visit was a surprise and it caught him off-guard.

Even after waiting for some time, Rachel didn't speak.

"How is Uncle?"

"He... He's fine. He needs rest."

Aaron nodded with relief. The atmosphere grew more awkward as time went by.

Neither of them spoke. Rachel was getting more anxious.

"I'm here to ask a favor."

"Go on."

"I might sound unreasonable but, I-I- I don't have any other choice apart from this. I, actually, mm... You..."

"Mm?"

Aaron looked calm outside but inside, his heart was beating loudly. Rachel was stammering so much that his back had started to sweat.

Why was she so anxious to ask for help?

"What is it? It's okay, Rach, take your time. Tell me what-"

"Marry me!"

"..."

The room fell silent.

Except for her heavy breathing nothing else could be heard. She raised her head only to see his dumbstruck expression and she felt like collapsing on to the floor at that moment itself.

"I know, it's a foolish request but, I-I don't have other options. I will explain everything to you later. If you have any condition, please let me know. I will fulfill all your conditions, even if it means to pay it with my life. I will listen-"

"Okay."

"... To you, I swear. You can do, wait, what?"

She looked horrified with her eyes opened wide. What did he just say?
