An Inevitable Fate?

Darren was wearing a spotless white blazer and black trousers with a white shirt inside. He looked like a prince with a charming face. His gentle smile finished his look perfectly.

Beside him was Rachel, in a shimmering silver dress. It was a one-shoulder dress that hugged her body tightly, showing off her hidden curves. The dress highlighted her sharp collarbones and neck. Her hair was pulled up into a bun with a few strands hanging on the side of her face. And finally, a pair of diamond studs and silver stilettoes completed her look.

They both slowly made their way towards the reporters. When they almost reached the end of the red carpet, Rachel's eye caught sight of Aaron and stopped walking.

Aaron was in a shiny black suit. A silver chiffon scarf was dr.a.p.ed around his neck, stylishly. His usual messed up hair was styled into low fade spikes. The diamond stud on his left ear shone brightly due to the camera flashes. With a devilish grin on his face, he looked stunning.

She stood there like a statue, staring at him.

'What is he doing here? Wait, who invited him? '

While she was debating, all of a sudden, Aaron winked at her.

Rachel, who saw that, turned scarlet red.

'What the hell?!!'

Darren nudged her, signaling her to walk.

She came back to her senses, smiled, and started walking again.

"There you are!" Colin reached and pulled Rachel so that now she was standing next to him. Darren went and stood next to Rachel.

There was a proud smile on Colin's face as he saw his daughter with his future son-in-law.

"Mr. Colin, about-"

"I know, I know. As you all know, she is my daughter, Rachel and this is, Mr. Darren from The Onus company."

" Rumours says that your daughter has got engaged? Is it true? Can you tell more about this?"

Upon hearing this, Rachel got tensed. Her body went stiff.

"Wait till the end of the banquet." Colin smiled, left with everyone.

Jane went along with her dad. Rachel and Darren followed them. While they were walking, Rachel subconsciously turned back.

Aaron wasn't alone. She saw a woman clinging to him.

The woman next to him had worn a front v cut black gown that covered the black stilettoes. Her hair was partitioned in the middle and was left open. With a bright lipstick, her face stood out among others.

Aaron smirked.

Soon, the banquet started.

Colin along with his daughters and Darren sat in the same table.

Aaron and Sarah sat in the table which was behind Colin's.

"Welcome to all the ladies and the gentlemen present here...."

The welcome speech went on for a while. Next was a performance by the famous band. People who were present truly enjoyed the evening.

After the band, a few more performances like stand-up comedy, etc. After the programs,

"It's time for our CEO and also the President, Mr. Colin Stein to address the gather."

Colin stood up from the table and walked towards the stage, with steady steps. He looked intimidating in his black suit.

"I would like to thank everyone for making this banquet a successful event. Every year, the year-end banquets were held to appreciate the people and their hard work towards our company. The Stein industries could not have reached this position if not for their constant support and belief. They have trusted the company and me for all these years. I would like to thank them wholeheartedly. You all might have noticed, this time, the banquet is quite high-key right? Yes, there is a reason for it. I am eagerly waiting to announce it but, there is also something personal to tell you all. But, let's just wait till the end, okay? Haha, now, feel free to enjoy the food and the atmosphere. Thank you all again!"

People showed their dissatisfaction when he said they had to wait.

Colin just laughed and went to his table.

"Dad, what is it that you said something personal to announce?" Jane asked eagerly.

"Did you not hear? Wait until the end."

"Even I should wait?" She pouted.

"What makes you think that you are an exception?" He was at loss.

"Of course, I am your daughter!!"

"So? It doesn't make any difference. You have to wait. That's it. Now go have your dinner." He stood up and joined his business friends.

"Are you kidding me, dad? How can it not many difference? I am your daughter! Daughter!!" Jane shouted but got no response from her dad.

She sat back with a puffed-up cheeks. She saw Rachel and Darren staring at her as if she had two heads.

"What? I just can't wait." She got up and left.

Rachel shook her head. Why couldn't Jane guess it already? Rachel was now somewhat aware of her dad's announcement.

It wasn't something hard to guess, anyway. What else could it be other than her marriage?

But, she didn't know why she was getting a bad feeling about it.
