An Inevitable Fate?

Chapter 48 - 48: There's no future for us. (11)

Outside the college, Jane was sitting alone, waiting for her friends. Her class had got over half an hour before itself. She opened her cell phone as the notification came on the screen. It was a message.

[Avery: Hey, I will reach in 10 minutes.]

Jane smiled.

[Jane: Perfect!]

Her friend's class would end in 10 minutes as it was a 40 minutes class. Today. she had decided to let her friends meet her new friend, Avery. She had other plans as well!

The time was up and she saw her two friends walking in her direction. Edwin and Ren reached her, each holding their backpacks.

"Hey, babe!" Edwin swung his arm around her neck and squeezed tightly. Ren just sat next to her with his mobile in his hand.

"Gosh, stop it!' She elbowed him.

She then turned towards ren and said,

"Hubby, missed me?" Now it was her turn to lock Ren.

Ren gave an are-you-kidding-me look. Anyways, Jane was Jane. She continued.

"Aww, you missed me!" She squeed his neck even more tightly.

He easily removed her hand twisted it backward with a little force.

"Ouch! It hurts! It hurts!"

"What were you saying?" Ren spoke unhurriedly, still using his mobile on the other hand.

"Oh, I was saying that you were such a nice person." She lied smoothly.

"Oh?" Ren twisted her arm even more.

"Gosh! That hurts! Babe, help me!" She pleaded Edwin, who was enjoying the show.

"You are on your own, babe." He lifted his hands in the air. It was very rear to see Ren losing his temper. Of course, he wouldn't miss it.

'Dang it!' Jane cursed inwardly. What was the use of having a friend? She swore that she would get back at them for making her plead.

"Okay, I am sorry. I won't do it!"

Ren was satisfied with her reaction and let her hand. As soon as he released, Jane went up to Edwin and started beating him up.

"You coward! What kind of friend are you? You couldn't even help me from him. There's no use for me to keep you has a fake boyfriend. Don't you dare call me babe again!"

Edwin simply blocked her attacks and even made sure that she wouldn't hurt herself while hitting him.

"Really? I am so happy!" Edwin poured oil to the fire.

Just as she was about to hit him again, a sweet voice interrupted her.

"Jane!"

All three of them turned towards the voice and saw Avery walking up to them with a shy smile on her face. She wore a light blue color dress paired with nude high heels. She had let her hair open which made her look fresh.

She looked opposite to Jane who was wearing black ripped jeans with a cream cropped pullover. With high boots and a ponytail, Jane looked like a perfect tomboy.

"Wow," Edwin opened his mouth wide. He simply couldn't digest her beauty. On the other hand, Ren didn't even acknowledge the girl and bent his head down to look into his mobile.

Seeing Edwin's reaction, Jane spoke while gritting her teeth.

"Stop gawking at her. Otherwise, I will throw my boots into your garbage mouth."

On contrary to what she was saying, Jane waved her hand at Avery excitedly.

Edwin, of course, neglected her warnings. He even spoke first when Avery reached them.

"Hey, beauty, I am Edwin!" He stretched his hand out enthusiastically.

Avery was not sure how to react to them. Considering that they were with Jane, she shook his hand, gingerly.

"I am Avery. Jane's friend."

"Jane's friend?" This question was directed to Jane.

"Yeah, my new friend." Jane beamed.

"Care to explain?" Edwin asked. He would trust anyone but Jane.

"A long story, in short, she's my new friend, Avery."

Edwin was speechless. That was called an explanation? How? From which angle?

"Avery, meet my friends. This is Edwin as he said and this is Ren." Jane introduced them.

Ren finally took a proper look at the girl and nodded his head with a small smile. That simple smile struck like an arrow into Avery's heart. She starred at his handsome face which was filled nothing but seriousness. His disinterested look made her more interested in him. She had seen a lot of handsome hunks in her place, but this guy had a nonchalant and haughty look which made him look even more attractive. All in all, she looked like a love-struck fool.

While Avery was lost in her dreamland, Jane was twitching her lips. Without a doubt, Jane could see those little hearts popping out of Avery's eyes. She cursed inwardly.

'Are you kidding me, girl? I asked you to meet me so that I could set you up with that stupid Alan guy but here you are, gawking at my friend.'
