An Inevitable Fate?

Chapter 38 - 38 :There's no future for us. (1)

"Hey, Matt, make a place for the young lady to sit. Come on, mover over."

The man who offered her a seat before lectured his friend.

The man called Matt grinned like a bastard before shifting his body to the other sofa.

"There, come on, Miss, have a seat." He continued before Rachel could protest.

"We need to discuss the matter and it may take a while. I don't want you to stand there and torture your poor legs. Don't waste our time. You see, time is precious." He smirked.

Rachel felt disgusted seeing them. She didn't want to regret coming here but, fine, she would just get over with this.

After taking a seat, she didn't wait but went straight to the point.

"We got information saying you are building a nine floored building while it had to be eight?"

The man in the black suit chuckled, "Have a drink first, lady." He instructed the waiter to serve a drink.

"No, thank you." She declined straight away.

"Come on, let's warm-up first." His voice was domineering.

Fine. She decided to take a sip.

"Now, what were you telling?" The man finally asked.

Damned guy.

"About the building."

"Ahh, building. What about it?" Rachel swore she would hit his damned face before leaving this damned place.

Breathe, Rache, breathe.

"Your agreement doesn't match up with reality."

"Matt, is that right?" He seemed confused.

What a sc.u.mbag!

"Maybe, I don't quite remember." He couldn't care less.

"This will help you remember." Rachel slammed the agreement papers on the table, gnashing her teeth.

It stunned everyone as they had not expected her to be rash.

"Bold woman, aren't you?" A man in a white suite finally spoke. He was the only one who had not spoken from the beginning.

"Got a problem?" Since they weren't behaving well, she would just let them taste their own medicine.

A laugh rang out in the quiet room. Laugh? That's all?

"Okay, let's get to business. And, yeah, the agreement is different. It's nine-floor even though it wasn't in our plan."

"Don't you know the consequences?" She felt only this man was sane enough to understand her language amongst all.

"Of course, we do. What to do? Influences play a major role. You need not worry though."

Need not worry? Was he kidding?

"What do you mean influences? Who's behind this?" She frowned.

"You don't need the details, little girl. Tell your boss not to worry about the company's safety."

"But I should-"

"That would be all. Matt, see the guest out." He simply dismissed her, just like that, before closing his eyes.

Wow!

Even Rachel didn't want to stay any longer. Even though that person said they need not worry, she couldn't stay calm. What if they were bluffing? What if the influence they were speaking was bad? What if ... All these what if's caused her mind to blow off.

As she climbed down the stairs, she saw the counter filled with different drinks.

She made her way out with much difficulty. It was late already, and not many cars were on the road. She booked a cab online, stood near a pole. While waiting, she thought of calling her manager but then decided not to as it was late.

Just as she lifted her head, two pairs of eyes were on her. Two guys were standing on the other side of the road. They swayed a little as they walked towards her.

Shit! This wasn't a good sign.

She saw the app and cursed. Still four more minutes.

She started to walk to avoid accidents. But, those two guys followed her as they spoke.

"Hey, babe!" One of the guys spoke.

She felt disgusted.

"Babe, come on, let's have a drink." Her heart almost leaped out of her c.h.e.s.t when the guy held her wrist.

"Let go of me!"

"Wow, what a beauty." The guy whistled when he took a closer look. He started to grin even more.

"Don't waste time, let's go have some fun, okay?" He started to drag her.

"Bastard!" Left with no option, she bit him hard on the wrist.

"Hsss," As expected, he left her wrist immediately. Rachel took the chance to run off.

"Damn it, get that bitch!" He started to chase her along with the other guy.

Rachel had never run as fast as she did tonight. Heck, she didn't even know she could run with those damned heels. F.u.c.k.i.n.g heels. She removed them before throwing it god knows where.

She was now behind her poor life. Not to forget, she was barefoot!

After taking some sharp turns and twists, she ditched them. Finally! She could breathe.

But, God had other plans. Guess, her luck ditched her just the way she ditched those sc.u.mbags.

A white SUV came rushing in her direction. She couldn't see properly as she tried to block the light coming from the headlights with the back of her hand.

The next moment, she felt something hit her head and darkness clouded her.
