An Inevitable Fate?

Chapter 3 - 3: Engagement party (3)

Rachel felt her legs losing its strength. She dropped to the ground. She glanced everywhere but couldn't find him as he had left after saying that. Memories of that day from 4 years back started flooding into her mind.

__

On that day, the night around 9 PM, she received a call from Intense hospital saying that her friend has met with an accident. Being traumatized by accidents, she hurried there without thinking further.

It was raining heavily outside when she reached the hospital. After parking her car near the hospital, she ran inside. When she reached the respective private ward, a doctor came outside and seeing her he asked, "Are you this patient's family?"

Unknowingly she nodded. He continued, "This patient met with an accident near coffee day. Someone who saw that brought him to our hospital. Nothing serious, only minor injuries. After taking rest for a few days, he will be fine."

Saying her thanks to the doctor she took a deep breath and went inside. She already knew who this friend of hers could be but she just hoped she could be wrong.

Entering inside, she saw a teenager lying in bed with his left hand and forehead bandaged completely. His right eye had swollen a little. Her eyes went wide.

'How in the world does this look like minor injuries to that doctor? Does he even have eyes? I mean, I know he has but still. There are scratches all over his body. Look at his bruised face. Oh God! Should I call the doctor again and-'

Before she could continue with her thoughts, Aaron opened his and said, "How long are you planning to stand there looking at me?"

She felt embarrassed though she did not do anything.

'Serves you right. Hmph!'

Shen went and stood beside the bed. He spoke again, "Who asked you to come?"

She felt speechless. She tried to speak only to get interrupted again. "Are you worried about me now? mm?"

There was a teasing smirk on his damaged face. She couldn't take it anymore. "I got a call from this hospital saying that you have met with an accident. I don't know who gave my number to them. So I came to see you. Now that you are talking all bullsh*t, I guess you are fine. I'm going back then." saying this she turned to leave but he grabbed her hand and asked, "Rach, you know how much I love you. Why are you avoiding me?"

Yes, she knew how much he loved her. But what can she do? God had taken her love, her husband from her. She did not have any feelings left with her. But she couldn't tell all this to others. She didn't want others to pity her. Being pitiful in front of others was the last thing she wanted.

'Being pitiful doesn't fetch you anything. Fight back when you have to!' This was what Eric had taught her.

She spoke, "I can't accept you no matter what. Not only you but others also. I don't have any feelings towards you. Don't waste your time." Saying this she went out without turning back.

When she went out of the hospital she had tears rolling down on her cheeks. She started walking towards her car not caring about the rain. But suddenly she felt someone hugging her from behind.

"Don't leave." Aaron had run behind her, getting drenched in the rain. He was scared. Scared that she would leave him.

She pushed him hard and shouted, "I don't like you!"

Aaron stood there rooted to the ground. Staring with a blank expression he asked, "Why?"

She tightened her lips, scared of showing her weaker side.

He continued, "Because of your husband's death?"

He had tried so much not to mention this but he couldn't.

Rachel felt her world collapsing. She hadn't expected him to know about Eric's death.

Seeing her expression he continued, "Rach, you can't live with memories forever. You have to move forward with someone. But I want that someone to be me."

Rachel took a deep breath. "I'm not going to get married again."

Seeing her being adamant, he said, "Yes, someday, you will."

"No, I won't."

He asked, "What if you change your mind in the future?"

"That will never happen. If that day comes, then I will come to you."

Rachel just wanted to get over with this as soon as possible. She didn't think much about her words as that day would never be going to come.

Arron narrowed his eyes and asked, "Promise?" She nodded.

With an evil grin, he went near her. Holding her face, "Let's seal this promise." Saying this, he kissed her hard.
