A Second Life

Chapter 8 - 8. The Test's over...not the Drama

The class decided that comparing Sumire with themselves would only cause self-harm, so the optimistic ones decided not to, while few others just…

'I have to surpass her and everyone, to prove I'm no. 1.'

'That Demon...I'll overpower her.'

It was Midoriya's turn.

"Midoriya's not doing well is he?" Iida was a bit perplexed.

"Naturally! He's a f*cking quirkless puppy!" Bakugou shouted.

"Quirkless? Didn't you see what he did in the entrance exam?" Iida was ready to dispense the information.

"Haah?" Bakugou seemed to be unaware of it.

The old couple started talking again.

All the attention was on Midoriya. He gulped and gripped the new ball.

Standing in the circle he looked like he was prepared to confront death.

He launched it with all his might...it reached 46m…

[this kid's physical strength sucks…and he looks absolutely horrified]

'Eh?'

Midoriya's doubt about his quirk being cancelled was cleared by the homeroom teacher. The two had a little heart to heart talk, and this particular trail was over with Midoriya throwing the ball.

It reached 705.3.

Eraserhead was mildly shocked at this discovery.

'He didn't just pitch at full power...he concentrated his power to his finger tip.'

This revised his impression.

But alas, his end was still undetermined.

"Sensei...I can still move!" Midoriya proclaimed, albeit verge on tears, no, he was crying because he broke his finger.

[That should hurt…]

Aizawa merely gave a very sadistic and mocking "OHO."

Uraraka cheered, Aoyama commented and Bakugou was startled.

"Your finger is swollen. That reminds of the entrance exam incident… What an odd quirk…"Thank you Iida, for stating the obvious…

Bakugou snapped. He jumped at Midoriya, spewing profanities and an intent to kill…

Fortunately, Bakugou was stopped by the teacher. The man, Eraserhead is eminently capable...but what a pity, his awesome quirk was wasted because of his dry eyes...

[Why does he have such killing intent?]

After settling the minor brawl which didn't break out, the class continued with next trail.

{ TRAIL 6: SEATED TOE-TOUCH }

Asui shined here...along with Sumire and few others.

{ TRAIL 7: UPPER BODY EXERCISES }

Todoroki, Bakugo, Ojiro, Satou, Tokoyami, Iida, Yaoyorozu, Kirishima, Sumire broke no

sweat…

{ TRAIL 8: ENDURANCE TEST }

The class did few muscular endurance tests…

The class was flaggabastered when Yaoyorozu just made some cushions, just like she prepared few other things that gave her top score.

Well aside that, Bakugou and Iida lasted the longest if we exclude Sumire, who looked like she had fallen asleep at that point; but was actually meditating because she was bored.

(Author-san : who the heck meditates when they are bored?)

When all the assessment test were done, Aizawa talked.

"Time to present the results, the total is simply the aggregate sum of your scores. If I recited all your scores, it'd take a million years, so I'll disclose them all at once."

Midoriya, who apparently was the last and possible candidate for expulsion, was sweating, fidgeting and was having a nervous breakdown.

While displaying the results, Aizawa dropped a bombshell like a candy or a mobile phone.

"Oh yeah, the whole 'Expulsion' thing was a lie."

"!?"

"It was a logical ruse to pull out your best performances."

The class grumbled but let it go since there was nothing they could do about it. Aizawa seemed to absolutely enjoy it, toying with his students' mental health. He gave the curriculum sheets and Midoriya a ticket to Recovery Girl's room.

He also dropped of a premonition for the coming day, which sadly very few (only one) noticed. Just as he was about to walk away to do some work (and sleep), he was halted by Sumire who was a bit curious.

"Excuse, sensei!" Sumire said.

"What is it, Azumi?"

"Why did you lie?"

"...Excuse me?"

"The part about expulsion, it wasn't a ruse."

"No. It was a-"

"Sensei, I'm just a bit curious and don't say any excuses to me, you barely put any effort into it!"

Aizawa looked at the girl and didn't get irritated with her question or interruption at all. Instead, he was glad. 'At least one is m.a.t.u.r.e enough to see through all the deceits and has the guts to question a teacher back...That would make things a lot easier.'

"No, reason at all. I just felt like it."

"...you won't tell the complete truth, huh. Sigh...fine then, at least tell me why you warned us?" [No reason? There's definitely a reason]

"Did I?" Aizawa asked, little interested.

"By all means. You did. You said, "Since you will doubtless pop your eyeballs at tomorrow's absurd ordeal." when sending Midoriya to Recovery Girl." Sumire stated without any doubt.

"Ah, I guess I did then."

"So?"

"So?"

"So what's the absurd ordeal?" Sumire was borderline annoyed but, was chill.

"What's fun if I say it now?" Aizawa was clearly enjoying this, yeah, he liked to toy with his students after all.

"...never mind I asked you." Sumire walked away.

Aizawa had a slight smile on his face, not the usual sadistic one but a little 'normal' one, which vanished at the appearance of All Might. The man really looked drain now.

'Azumi is much nice to talk with, compared to this overly optimistic blockhead and busybody.'

They had their little chat.

When Sumire walked back to the ground, Iida detected her.

"Azumi-san, congratulations on getting the first place." Iida said with solemn expression and gestures.

"Thank you, Iida-kun. And congrats on getting 5th place, you did well." Sumire returned the compliment with a smile, causing the previous frustration from being played fade away.

"T-Thank you, Azumi-san." Iida needed some time to adjust at Sumire's smiles, like everyone else at first.

"How did you know he was fifth? You didn't see the result board. Moreover, what were you discussing with sensei?" A cold voice which apparently belonged to Todoroki asked.

Everyone was instantly drawn at his words and looked at Sumire, highly interested in the answer.

"Whoa, relax. Interrogating your classmates like that is rude you know?" Sumire wasn't one bit fazed at everyone's stares, which rested on her. Iida wanted to step in to help her but Sumire just waved her hand. Iida, who was an expert at hand gesture, instantly comprehended it.

"..."

"You're no fun. Fine, don't look at me like that. I'll explain it.'

"..."

"You're really no fun. Foremost, I know the results without seeing the board because I no need for it-"

"What do you mean by no need for it?" Yaoyorozu questioned.

"Geez, let me finish everything. I remembered all your assessments. They happened right in front of my eyes after all and-"

"How did you know Iida's ranking then?" Ashido asked a really dumb question, which was also the one which most were interested in.

"I just calculated it. And don't say anything, let me complete, please." Sumire prevented anyone who was about to b.u.t.t in again.

"This is the quirk assessment test data, one which won't be done again for a long time. Don't you all think it is important to know about everyone's abilities? We'll be staying together for the next three years, as a team and need to fight like one. I just thought that it was the right thing to do, and no offense whatsoever."

'Wow! But how did she remember every single one's data? It was over 160 numbers, after all.' Everyone thought.

"If nothing else, I'll take my leave."

"Wait." The half-guy called.

"Now what?"

"...what did you talk to sensei about?" The half-guy finally realised that there's a thing called privacy and he be should embarrassed.

Sumire blanked for moment, she didn't want to say a teacher lied, well, twice. So she rapidly thought an alternative.

[I thought he would forget that…]

"It was nothing substantial, you see, just confirming some details."

"What details?"

"You seriously don't know?"

"You tell me."

"I just asked about tomorrow's test or whatever sensei meant."

"What test?" This time everyone asked at once.

"You guys have no idea?"

Everyone looked at each other's faces, obviously clueless.

[ So much for the cream of the crop, eh]

"Sigh...Midoriya-kun, sensei warned you about tomorrow's test didn't he?"

Sumire asked the boy, who started fidgeting.

"Uh...that...now that I think about it, he did say something like that..." The boy just realised it as well.

"See? I just went ahead and asked sensei about it, no big deal." Sumire stated with her hands folded.

"If nothing else, I'll take my-"

"Wait a minute, Azumi-san!" Midoriya called.

"Midoriya-kun?"

"Uh...e-etto, could you tell us what sensei told you then?" Midoriya asked sheepishly.

"Ah...the thing is, he didn't say a thing. Asking him was useless."

"Eh?" Everyone looked a bit disappointed and some even suspicious.

"Sigh...But I can offer my views to you, if you think it would help."

[Why is average IQ so LOW. They couldn't figure out a thing and think I'm withholding it!]

"Please do!" Midoriya was eager.

'She's topped the class and exams, it would definitely help to know her views...ah, I should've brought my book with me!'

"My guess would be something related to the heroics, since we're the hero department, all is said and done. It might also be something else...though the probability of that happening is rare. So, most probably Hero Training."

"Hero Training?" Everyone was oblivious, it was frustrating.

"En. It's in the curriculum. Tomorrow we would have 'Foundation of Heroics' in the afternoon, and it would be taken by All Might. Plus, we'd get our battle gear. That's all I can think. Bye now!"

Sumire dropped the bombshells and left towards the changing room quickly. She has some work to do before lunch…She wasted enough time in classroom drama.
