Zenith: Last Revenant

Chapter 23 - 23 - Truth

After turning Agron into what could be only identified as blood mist, Spencer instantly turned around and flickered from view, appearing back at the tribe, or more precisely, what was left of it, within seconds.

Arriving at the tribe and walking around, Spencer's rage was constantly refreshed at every turn. The scene of the members of the tribe laying on the ground dead angered him greatly. He was growing slightly attached to them, after all.

Spencer began looking for Quintus and Hagen to see if they were harmed. Walking for a few meters, Spencer came to see the two dragging the bodies of the invaders they killed across the soil and throwing their corpses into a pile in a corner.

Making his way over to them, he caught their attention. Seeing Spencer, the two walked over to him.

"Where did you go?" Quintus asked immediately.

Even though Spencer was only gone for a few moments, Quintus, who was the observant one, had noticed his disappearance into the forest while they were fighting the tribe's invaders.

Spencer looked at Quintus with a serious expression, while his eyes still refused to revert to normal as his body was still filled with immense rage. Looking into Spencer's eyes continued to send fear throughout Quintus's body, but he did not show it.

"Agron had abandoned the tribe." He curtly answered.

"Where is he?!"

Quintus wanted to know where Agron had gone so that he could question him on why he would abandon the people of the tribe and deal with him himself.

"Dead. I had already tracked down his scent." Spencer answered.

"Oh…"

Hearing this, Quintus was filled with indignation that he could not do it himself, but a hint of grief was also whelming up within him. Even though he was furious with Agron for abandoning the tribe, losing him was still a painful experience when the memories of them being like brothers began to surface.

Spencer could sense Quintus's sadness, but he ignored it as his objective wasn't yet complete. He walked closer to Quintus and placed his hand on his shoulder.

"You will have time for your grief later, right need we have people to avenge."

Saying this Spencer then walked past Quintus and towards Hagen, approaching him he began to speak.

"Do you know any other tribes close to this place?" He asked.

"No… We chose this place because there is no nearby tribe…" He answered after a while.

"Hmm... I see."

Hearing Hagen's words, Spencer was greatly confused: How was their tribe attacked if there were no nearby tribes in the first place?

Looking back at Quintus, he wanted to ask if he knew any tribes, but when he saw the grief in his eyes as he remembered Agron and their bond as brothers, he audibly sighed, venting his annoyance.

*SIGH*

He realized that he didn't have any other options for finding the tribe that attacked them. Moving Hagen out of the way, Spencer walked towards the pile of corpses in the corner.

"Guess I have no other choice…" he muttered to himself.

Squatting down, Spencer reached out his hand and touched one of the corpses. Hagen who was watching this was confused by what he was doing, Quintus who had regained some of his composure was also watching in confusion.

What happened next replaced their confusion with fear; upon touching the corpse of one of the invaders, it began to liquefy! The flesh melted off the bones, the eyes turned to mush, and the skull and the skeleton that was exposed quickly melted as well, all becoming a mass of grayish mushy liquid.

Finding what he needed in its memories, he then stood up and turned around. What he saw was the now completely terrified Quintus and Hagen backing away from him in a hurried fashion.

*SIGH!*

Releasing a second sigh, Spencer knew that this would happen if he showed them what he could do.

"Argh, we don't have time for this! I know where they came from!"

Walking closer to them, they continued to back away from him in fear of what he was, they could not comprehend his action.

"Oh come on… I have been doing nothing but helping you from the very beginning…" Spencer grumbled in annoyance.

Hearing what he said, their fear had diminished slightly, but they were still wary of him from what they had just witnessed. Spencer only stood in place and held his hand forward with his palm exposed.

This further lessened their fear of him as they started to relax a little, Spencer seeing this began to speak.

"The invaders came from a tribe hidden on the other side of that mountain."

"We will repay them dearly for what they did to our tribe and its people. Get your weapons and meet me at the center."

Quintus and Hagen nodded and followed his orders and went for their weapons without a second thought.

Seeing the two going for their weapons, Spencer walked over to the tent where Cassius and Dinah were. Opening it up, Spencer saw that Dinah was no longer crying, but when he looked into her eyes, it was cold and lifeless, it was as if she had died completely on the inside from the loss of her child.

Cassius was still trying to remove her dead child from her arms, but as she was not letting go of her, he eventually gave up. He was still staying by her side to keep an eye on her.

*SIGH*

Spencer sighed for the third time. Seeing the woman's dead eyes, he couldn't imagine the pain she must be experiencing. He clenched his fists tightly until the sound of bones cracking could be heard, startling Cassius who was still trying to console the woman.

"We are going to avenge the people of the tribe. You stay here and tend to her."

Before Cassius could respond, Spencer closed the tent and went back to the center of the tribe to see Quintus and Hagen waiting there. Seeing that they both had their weapons, he decided it was time.

"Let's go." he solemnly said.
