Chapter 13 – Did You Know YueJian ChunHe Has An Alt Account?

The ancient capital of the Six Dynasties, ten miles from Qinhuai.

The white-robed Emei rode atop a steed, stopping by a painted boat on the Qinhuai River in Jinling City. Ji Xiaoli trailed behind Milk Tea Small Crisp. When his disciple dismounted, he followed with haste. The pair stood on the dock. Dusk had yet to fall. There were no more than a dozen boats on the Qinhuai River that were anchored tranquilly by the banks.

The NPCs in “Knight Errant Road” are extremely intelligent. During the day, the songstress NPCs of the Qinhuai River would not show up. They ‘slumber’ within the Gaily-painted pleasure boat. When night falls, they sing and dance in celebration of peace.

Ji Xiaoli wondered how he was supposed to become stronger when his disciple brought him here.

Could it be… Collecting yin and nourishing yang*?

*采阴补阳 Borrowing the feminine force(yin) to strengthen a man’s virility(yang) by bedding women.

Ji Xiaoli narrowed his eyes. Upon glancing at his apprentice’s lofty and withdrawn silhouette, he scrambled to expel all the yellow waste* in his mind.

*黄色 the color yellow is associated with erotic and vulgar things. It means sexual thoughts, expressions of sexual content displayed in conversation, or non-verbal communication. An individual can look yellow, have yellow thoughts, or say yellow words.

There was one thing he still couldn’t quite grasp.

【Teacher Orders a Salute: Disciple, didn’t you mention before that you wanted me to play to my strengths and that we must not avoid our shortcomings?】It had only been half a day. Did my disciple change his mind?

【Milk Tea Small Crisp: Where do your strengths lie?】

Ji Xiaoli declared with righteous pride: 【I’m foolish but hella rich!】

Milk Tea Small Crisp stared fixedly at him.

Although there were no visual changes to the expression on the Emei’s face, Ji Xiaoli felt sheepish when he met her gaze. Just as he was about to break the silence, the Emei in pristine white solemnly uttered: 【That’s just one of your strengths. Your number one advantage… is me.】

Ji Xiaoli paused.

A cool breeze swept through the crystalline Qinhuai River, stirring up the Emei’s gauzy white robes and the sword tassels by the Huashan’s waist. Except for YueJian ChunHe and a Europeanfemale Emei from another server, other players couldn’t have unique outfits in-game. However, when Ji Xiaoli regarded Milk Tea Small Crisp, he felt that his disciple was very distinctive in contrast to everyone else.

*A reminder that this doesn’t mean an actual European. It means someone who is extremely lucky. Do check back T/N of Chapter 9 if you need a refresher!

This white gossamer dress is the gold rank apparel of the Emei sect. The pale gauze gave off an impression of wispy mists. With the specks of golden light enveloping her frame, she seemed almost celestial. Many high-leveled Emei wore this outfit. Emei da shijie* Bei Yuan also donned the same robes, but none of them were his disciples.

*大师姐 da shijie means Senior/Eldest Martial Sister.

Ji Xiaoli thoughtfully observed, his sand sculpture* mind pondered for half a day before babbling.

*沙雕 sand sculpture is a Chinese slang for witless, foolish, pea-brained, etc.

【Teacher Orders a Salute: Disciple, you’re so damn cool!】

【Milk Tea Small Crisp: ……】

Ji Xiaoli was still extremely proud: Today, he also kneels to his domineering disciple!

Milk Tea Small Crisp didn’t bother with the eccentric Ji Xiaoli any further. Ji Xiaoli continued to jovially chatter on without a care in the world. After five minutes, a black stallion trod across the bridge and halted before Ji Xiaoli and Milk Tea Small Crisp. The other party dismounted, studying the teacher-disciple duo with stoic coldness. He had his arms folded against his chest as he stood motionless.

Ji Xiaoli: “……”

He was a masked Youquan assassin, clad in a black ensemble worn snugly around his form. Only a pair of eyes were visible. His mother probably wouldn’t even recognize him if he stood in front of her. The player also picked the “scar” tattoo option when he customized his avatar’s visage. There was a very cool, lightning-shaped scar across his right eye, which added to his slasher temperament.

Ji Xiaoli craned his neck to see the top of the person’s head.

【Current】Teacher Orders a Salute: Holy crap? Boss Yang???

Yang Xiu.

Level 149, cultivation 1.65W.

“Knight Errant Road” First Server, first on the slasher leaderboard of Xueyi Inn and a Youquan da shixiong*.

*大师兄 da shixiong means Senior/Eldest Martial Brother.

Among the main six sects, the one with the highest cultivation is Huashan da shixiong “YueJian ChunHe”, who was at 1W9 cultivation as of this morning. Following behind is Wudang da shixiong “Jade Starship” with a cultivation of 1.75W. Then, Shaolin da shixiong “Pin Seng Fa Hao Jie Se”, Emei da shijie “Bei Yuan”, Tianshan da shijie “Braised Pigeon” … and Youquan da shixiong “Yang Xiu”.

Yang Xiu’s cultivation did not even place him second in the Huashan rankings, only third. But no one would dare to underestimate a Youquan.

Youquan possessed a superior ability to execute kills.

Once they become invisible, their burst damage increases. Like Pin Seng Fa Hao Jie Se, players also voted Yang Xiu as being one of the players who had the highest probability of solo killing YueJian ChunHe.

Ji Xiaoli was overcome with emotion as he did not expect to meet Boss Yang.

【Current】Yang Xiu: Hmph.

Ji Xiaoli: “……”

What was his problem?!

【Current】Milk Tea Small Crisp: He doesn’t know how to fight against a Youquan. You teach him how to defeat a Youquan as a Huashan.

【Current】Yang Xiu: Don’t have time.

【Current】Milk Tea Small Crisp: You do.

【Current】Yang Xiu: I don’t!

【Current】Milk Tea Small Crisp: I said, you do.

Just when Ji Xiaoli assumed the back-and-forth dialogue between the two would drag on for an indefinite amount of time, Yang Xiu stayed silent for half a minute. When he resumed speaking: 【How do I teach? I don’t know.】

Ji Xiaoli: “……”

Boss, are you this unprincipled?!!!

Although Yang Xiu seemed reluctant, he still agreed to instruct Ji Xiaoli. His equipment level was superior to Ji Xiaoli’s. Youquan had high burst damage but low health defense. As he demonstrated the techniques, he typed and taught Ji Xiaoli what each of the eight Youquan skills were, what kind of effects they had, and how to defend against them.

There were times when there was so much typing that the skill effects wore out, but Yang Xiu had yet to finish typing.

【Milk Tea Small Crisp: Turn on team voice chat.】

Boss Yang exploded in an instant: 【No!!!】

【Milk Tea Small Crisp: Turn on voice chat. Typing is too slow. It’s ineffective.】

【Yang Xiu: Hell no!!!】

Milk Tea Small Crisp ignored him. He formed a team, added Yang Xiu to it, and clicked on the team voice chat. Boss Yang immediately hit the reject button. In the team channel, Milk Tea Small Crisp flatly asked: 【No?】

【Yang Xiu: ……】

He began to wail!

Ji Xiaoli was delightfully gorging himself on melon on the sidelines.

He sent a private message to his disciple: 【Disciple, how do you and Boss Yang know each other? You two seem close. 】

【I’ve known him for a long time.】

【Why doesn’t he want to turn on his voice chat? Busy?】

Ji Xiaoli was about to hear a reply from Milk Tea Small Crisp when a teenager’s faint croaky drawl resounded from Ji Xiaoli’s phone.

“You teacher and disciple duo only know how to bully others!”

Ji Xiaoli: “……”

After a brief moment of silence, Ji Xiaoli blurted out, “Boss Yang, Fujianese?”

“Fujian, your sister. Who do ya think ya speaking to?!”

Oh, a furious Fujianese.

With the voice chat on, teaching became more convenient.

Ji Xiaoli could detect from his voice that Boss Yang seemed to be a high school student. How odd. A high school student should be in class right now. He was puzzled as to how Boss Yang had the time to play games.

Of course, he wasn’t aware that it was precisely because Boss Yang was playing games during school hours that he was scooped up by a certain someone to teach a newcomer. He didn’t dare to voice his grievances.

Under the tutelage of a high-ranked Youquan to teach him the ropes of PK, Ji Xiaoli had a better grasp of a Youquan’s skills. At least when he encounters One Wet Hand next time, he won’t be thoroughly rekted* by his opponent. But this wasn’t enough.

*Rekt means “wrecked or destroyed.” It is often used to refer to someone who is losing—badly—in a game or contest.

“I have some things to do. Going off first. You guys can carry on.”

His disciple’s voice was so pleasant that Ji Xiaoli momentarily neglected to activate his shield. He was consequently bludgeoned by Boss Yang, nearly perishing on the spot with only a sliver of health to show. After Milk Tea Small Crisp took his leave, Ji Xiaoli and Yang Xiu stared at each other in consternation.

As soon as the overseer left, Boss Yang immediately sought to sneak off. Ji Xiaoli sensed his intent and had no intention of thwarting his plans. He, likewise, wanted to laze about. The two did not exchange dialogues, simply exchanging glances with their in-game avatars to comprehend the other party’s meaning.

A Megaphone slid over their heads as they mulled over the notion of “whoever takes off first will be held culpable”.

“What the fuck?”

“Holy crap?”

The two blurted out simultaneously in the team voice chat.

【Megaphone】Bei Yuan: I am getting married tonight. Hangzhou West Lake. Feel free to participate.

【Megaphone】Ayurveda Smiles: Woah, Boss Bei Yuan is getting married? Who’s the groom? Could it be Boss Yue?

【Megaphone】Borrowing Heaven’s Sword: Me.

Ji Xiaoli’s eyes danced with merriment when he took notice of the aromatic fragrance of the figurative melon. In the team channel, Boss Yang, speaking in fluent Fujian Mandarin, quizzically remarked, “Bei Yuan is marrying Sword Dog? What a pain.”

Ji Xiaoli: “Sword Dog?”

Yang Xiu: “Borrowing Heaven’s Sword. Aren’t you a Huashan? You recognize your Huashan da shixiong, ChunHe, but don’t recognize your er shixiong, Sword Dog?”

Ji Xiaoli hurriedly added, “What the hell is going on? I thought Bei Yuan was YueJian ChunHe’s ex-girlfriend. So, there wasn’t anything going on?” Ji Xiaoli clutched his phone, putting on airs as he calmly asked, ”Oh yeah, you and YueJian ChunHe know each other? Then… Did you know that he’s playing on an Emei alt account*?”

*An alternate account (alt/alt acc for short) is an additional account belonging to a user that already owns an account

Yang Xiu suddenly thought the situation was a little odd; why would he still be standing here if he didn’t know?

Yang Xiu: “Of course I know. What’s wrong?”

Ji Xiaoli: “……”

What’s wrong?

What the hell is wrong?

So, it was you, YueJian ChunHe! You son of a bitch!!!
