Chapter 10 – You’re After My Underwear

At midday, Ji Xiaoli feasted on a fragrant roast duck. When afternoon rolled around, he read his civil service examination booklet with wide, unblinking eyes; laser-focused on the words that have begun to dance on the pages. The square characters seemed to have suddenly morphed into a painting, and he could no longer distinguish any of them. His cognitive functions did not seem willing to cooperate at the moment.

Ji Xiaoli did whatever he could to avoid logging into the game again

What was he supposed to do if his disciple asked him why he suddenly went offline?

After avoiding the issue for half a day, Ji Xiaoli suddenly came up with a brilliant idea at 6 pm. He cockily switched his computer on and entered the game, furiously typing away: 【Ahem, this teacher had to board a plane earlier. Going online was off-limits, which was why I left.】

He waited an eternity for Milk Tea Small Crisp’s reply to no avail. Ji Xiaoli took a closer look.

“……”

My disciple wasn’t even online!!!

Ji Xiaoli withered on the spot. The imposing aura he radiated earlier vanished, as though it was never there.

A new message popped up in his inbox as he was wallowing in his despair.

【Milk Tea Small Crisp: Boarding a plane?】

Ji Xiaoli’s eyes widened in horror.

【Teacher Orders a Salute: Yup! I boarded a plane!】He was seized by a pang of shame that pricked at him.

【Milk Tea Small Crisp: Oh. You’re just in time. Treasure Hunt Event?】

 【Teacher Orders a Salute: Ok!】

Fortunately, the disciple did not pry. It was only then Ji Xiaoli realized that Milk Tea Small Crisp was now online because it was time for the seven o’clock Treasure Hunt Event. His disciple had mentioned doing the Treasure Hunt Event together when the two were doing their daily tasks this morning.

After idling at Forgotten Peak* for a few minutes, Ji Xiaoli could see Milk Tea Small Crisp approaching from a distance away.

*The previous translator had directly used Wang Feng (忘峰) but I thought Forgotten Peak made more sense to read in context.

On the snow-capped lonely hill, a white-clothed female Emei rode atop a steed. Its hooves tramped through the snow before coming to a halt in front of Ji Xiaoli with a stranglehold of the reins. Milk Tea Small Crisp dismounted and walked to Ji Xiaoli’s side. The white-clothed Emei was still slender and alluring, but after the revelation that his disciple was not a girl, Ji Xiaoli could not help but feel a sense of discomfort when he looked at her…

Milk Tea Small Crisp spoke first: 【Co-op or solo?】

Ji Xiaoli froze, as he comprehended what the other party had meant: 【I’m not very good at skiing… Let’s go solo so I don’t drag you down.】

【I’ll carry you.】

Ji Xiaoli’s hands that hovered atop his keyboard stopped, as he stared in disbelief at the words on the screen.

【Milk Tea Small Crisp: Ever taken First Place in the Ski Treasure Hunt Competition?】

Ji Xiaoli’s entire being was jumping for joy. He hadn’t noticed that his behavior seemed a bit dog-legged*.

*Dog-legged is a Chinese slang for fawning/kissing up to someone.

【Teacher Orders a Salute: No!】

【Milk Tea Small Crisp: Alright. I’ll carry you.】

He had subconsciously typed out “Thank you, Daddy, for carrying me” and hurriedly deleted it moments before he managed to send it.

That was his disciple who had no faults whatsoever! His disciple is the greatest in the universe!

When he believed Milk Tea Small Crisp to be of the fairer sex, although Ji Xiaoli felt that his disciple was extremely impressive, he did not have that sense of admiration. With the revelation that his disciple was a man, however, there was a sudden bout of added appreciation and admiration for the fellow.

Holy shit, his disciple was way too cool. He spoke of First Place as though it was precisely what he intended to accomplish. Ji Xiaoli would have kneeled*.

*Kneel( 跪了) is the Chinese equivalent of “orz”. It’s to show admiration.

The Treasure Hunt Event is a server-wide event that takes place three times a week in “Knight Errant Road”. There are a total of seven game modes that are randomized on the regular; ski competitions, yacht sailing conventions, white water rafting… These are some of the game modes for the Treasure Hunt Event. The ski competition and white water rafting are two of the more finicky game modes.

“Knight Errant Road” had only launched its open beta last month, and today marks its third random skiing competition. Players ski down from the zenith of Forgotten Peak and pick up various kinds of treasures along the way. The team that places first will each receive the Purple-Ranked Sacred Script “Sutra of the Jade Woman’s Heart”. The rewards get increasingly worse the further down you place.

Skiing is the test of a player’s speed in shifting the game’s perspective and how familiar one is at dodging. It does not matter how good one’s equipment is, it is worthless here. Ji Xiaoli was, without a doubt, a noob. He ranked below 9999 the previous two ski competitions, only receiving a consolation prize, which was two Grade 1 rubies.

The teacher and the disciple both got on a two-man sled. Ji Xiaoli was still feeling a slight bit of apprehension.

【Teacher Orders a Salute: I really am a noob. I’m even more of a noob than you think. Why don’t we just play solo?】

【Milk Tea Small Crisp: You take control of switching viewpoints. I’ll take care of the rest.】

Ji Xiaoli clenched his fists and set his jaw: 【Ok!】

The computer screen flashed the countdown numbers as Ji Xiaoli flexed his fingers and massaged each knuckle. He gripped his gaming mouse, which was worth more than 1,000RMB, staring intently at the screen. He had the air of a professional player.

Ji Xiaoli was very tender-looking, and with the light of the computer illuminating his visage, he looked to be around 17 or 18 years old. His complexion was alabaster white and made him resemble a pro league gamer who rarely saw the sun.

The countdown ended with a shrill call of a bird.

The blue-clad swordsman and the white-clad Emei jointly sled down Forgotten Peak. A mere five meters down, Ji Xiaoli fumbled with the perspective, and the viewpoint on the monitor was now angling from bottom to top. The white-robed Emei’s white panties came into view.

Milk Tea Small Crisp: “….”

Ji Xiaoli: “….”

I’m not some pervert! That was definitely an accident!

Ji Xiaoli was about to explain to clear up the misunderstanding but stopped after recalling that his disciple was a man.

It was a good thing that he was also a man. Therefore, it was not a big deal to take a peek at underwear. It was not as if his disciple was a cute girl or anything of the sort.

For the first time since the grand reveal of his disciple’s gender, Ji Xiaoli had come to discover its benefits.

Ji Xiaoli quickly shifted the perspective back.

Just as Milk Tea Small Crisp promised, Ji Xiaoli was carried. Ji Xiaoli’s perspective went topsy-turvy at several moments, leading to them not being able to see ahead; but the sled continued to slide steadily. As they passed through the jungle section, Milk Tea Small Crisp suddenly clicked lightly and accelerated.

The other players collectively slowed down as they began to encounter the many roadblocks, but he sped up, undeterred.

Just like that, the two men were able to shake off a large portion of the competition.

Seeing the fast-approaching finish line ahead and the other two teams who were still a distance away from themselves, Ji Xiaoli was in a tizzy. The viewpoint was again skewed to Milk Tea Small Crisp’s panties. Milk Tea Small Crisp’s gameplay momentarily stiffened, and the two gawked at the white panties that filled the entire screen. They listened to the sound of the cold wind whistling in their ears as they dashed across the finish line.

By the time Milk Tea Small Crisp himself took control and adjusted the viewpoint back to normal, Ji Xiaoli realized that they had won.

Ji Xiaoli: 【Your skills are so impressive, my disciple. You succeeded in maintaining control of the direction without toppling over, despite that odd point of view at the final stretch.】

【What do you want with my underwear?】

【……】

【No!】Ji Xiaoli began to deliver his speech of righteousness. 【It was true that I’m a noob. Disciple, you may insult the intelligence of this teacher, but not his character! Not to mention you’re a man!】 Why would I want to look at a man’s underwear?

Milk Tea Small Crisp: “….”

…I have never met someone who was so assured of his righteousness, despite being a complete noob.

Ji Xiaoli earnestly defended himself: 【What’s wrong with being a noob. Have I been cocky? Have I been proud? I’m telling you, my disciple, you’ve yet to properly grasp this teacher’s mindset.】

【Milk Tea Small Crisp: ……】

It made so much sense that he was unable to refute it.

Whether or not Milk Tea Small Crisp could tune out or grasp Ji Xiaoli’s perverted train of thought, is a story for another day. Even if he did, he wouldn’t waste his time on such a ridiculous thing.

When Ji Xiaoli received “Sutra of the Jade Woman’s Heart”, he hurriedly put it in his bag, ecstatic.

“Sutra of the Jade Woman’s Heart” could be drawn by spending some money. Ji Xiaoli owned a copy of it, but the one he just received could be used for leveling. It was also a reward that both he and his disciple had worked hard to earn. It meant a lot to him.

An idea came to Ji Xiaoli’s mind: 【Disciple, why don’t we store the Sacred Script at our sect base and make it our Sect’s treasure?】

【Milk Tea Small Crisp:……】

【Milk Tea Small Crisp: Who am I?】

Ji Xiaoli: 【???】How would I know who you are if you don’t know?

【Milk Tea Small Crisp: My cultivation is 1W4. You’re coming close to 1W4. Our sect’s treasure is a Purple Rank Sacred Script?】

Ji Xiaoli had a sudden epiphany. His disciple thought that the “Sutra of the Jade Woman’s Heart” was not good enough.

The blue-clad swordsman swung his arms in one fell swoop: 【Then, Yue Jian ChunHe’s head can be our Sect Treasure in the near future!】

【Milk Tea Small Crisp: …..】

Are you out of your mind?!!?!??

The teacher and disciple departed from Forgotten Peak on horseback. Ji Xiaoli became talkative again, chattering incessantly. The duo separated at the base of the mountain. Milk Tea Small Crisp wanted to farm for equipment, and Ji Xiaoli intended to pick up the main story quests.

The Emei dismounted from the white horse, a lengthy train of white silk wrapped around her wrist, as she sauntered silently to the blue-clad swordsman’s side.

【Milk Tea Small Crisp: Have you accepted it?】

Ji Xiaoli froze: 【What?】

【Your disciple is male.】

The white-clothed Emei stood beneath the snowy peak, her figure could be likened to a soft willow, her visage radiated elegance. Beside her stood a tall and handsome blue-clad swordsman with eyebrows like swords and eyes like stars.

Ji Xiaoli stared at the two figures on the computer screen, and after a while, began to type: 【Disciple, this teacher was thinking. You’re so stupid and rich. Except for me who’s as equally stupid and rich as you are, if anyone else were to be your shifu, they would not hesitate to cheat you out of your underwear.】

【Milk Tea Small Crisp:……】

【Milk Tea Small Crisp: So, you do have ulterior motives. You’re after my underwear.】

【Teacher Orders a Salute: No, I don’t!!!】

Ji Xiaoli suddenly recalled an important matter: 【Oh yeah, since you’re a guy, why do you use a name like Milk Tea Small Crisp?】

【I bought this account. It was the owner who picked the name.】He had originally intended to get it changed, but things happened along the way.

Milk Tea Small Crisp did not bother wasting his breath to elaborate.

Ji Xiaoli did not ask. His thoughts had already jumped from one subject to the next: 【You bought the account! So, you weren’t the one who drew the Hands of Rejuvenation? How much did you even spend on this account? Don’t tell me… you bought it just for the Hands of Rejuvenation?】

【……】

【Hahahahaha, you must’ve spent a fortune! What an unscrupulous disciple! A fraud! You’re no European disciple at all. Just an African drenched in white paint! A fake European!】

【……】

Never in this life would he mention to his dolt of a shifu, how much he paid for this account.

…Never in this lifetime!
