Chapter 80 Part 2:  Dagger

I saw a strange figure on my way back home.

‘Who is it?’

The person was dressed in shabby clothes and their hair looked like it hadn’t been washed.

The person looked like they had rolled in the dirt for a long time.

He or she was wearing a raggedy fur coat and wandering around near my house.

That person’s definitely suspicious.

When I stopped and stared for a while, the figure also turned their head towards me, and even if I tried hard, I still couldn’t tell who it was.

A dirty hood covers half of their face, and the other half is covered in dirt, but when that person sees me, he or she immediately comes running, and panting.

That person’s arms and legs are well toned, and he or she had a hammer strapped to his waist.

The person didn’t seem to have any intention of attacking, but it was quite intimidating to see them approaching me with that enormous size.

“Seohaaaaaah!”

My eyes widened after I recognized the voice.

It had a familiar tone, and sound.

“D-Da-Jung?”

“Yes, yes, yes, it’s me!”

She grabbed my hand, and shook it.

Oh, my God.

Song Da-jung?

‘I knew she was going to suffer after training to become a blacksmith but…… What is this?’

I don’t know what happened, but how did she turn into a beggar?

“I finally finished my training. I went to where you used to live before to meet you, but they said you moved… After wandering for a long time, I finally got in touch with Tae-byung, so I came all the way here…!”

It seems like she had such a hard time.

But…

The stench that stung my nose made it so difficult to concentrate on her words.

“Of course, My Master said that my skills are still not good enough, so it’s too early to go down, but…. Huhu…… huhu…… huhu…… I’ve managed to work it out.”

Song Da-Jung laughed sullenly.

‘What have you been up to…?’

I didn’t dare to ask, I was afraid that she’d give me a terrible answer.

“I did what you told me to do, and my Master actually accepted me as his disciple. Of course, I was a new disciple, so there was a lot of trial and error, but… You were right.”

I saw one of Song Da-Jung’s eyes shining brightly.

“I had it, the talent to become a blacksmith.”

She was able to unearth a valuable resource job— A job of a talented rookie blacksmith.

If her master turned out to be the same man that they called as the Second incarnation of Hephaestus, then her work would definitely sell for a sky-high price.

Most of the weapons used by prominent Hunters of the First Generation were his creations.

Though he was crippled, and took the title of ‘Hephaestus’1Hephaestus was also crippled. He’s also known for being the God of Forging , he was still said to be as skilled as any blacksmith with an intact limb.

“You’ve had a hard time, I’ve heard that your master had an unusual behavior.”

“It was a bit of a struggle at first, but I got used to it, and once I realized that it was all part of being a blacksmith, I finally understood it.”

I don’t know, but I’m sure it was not a time for her to smile.

The blacksmith who had worked under him before the regression shuddered in horror whenever he recalled his master.

‘I know sacrifices are needed to be made in order for people to earn the title ‘Incarnation of the Cyclops’, but…’

When I saw her scattered hair removed, with one side of her face that had been hidden, finally revealed…

I couldn’t say anything.

“Da-Jung…”

One of her eyes was actually sewn shut.

The Cyclops.

Cyclops is the name of a race of giants in Greek and Roman mythology, who were selfish, but had one extraordinary skill—They were natural blacksmiths.

Mythological titles like this are often earned by resembling a clear characteristic of the subject.

To become the embodiment of the One-Eyed Blacksmiths, they had to give up one of their own eyes.

“It’s okay, it was my choice.”

She smiled sweetly. Just like her name, ‘Da-Jung’ which means sweet.

I asked Hyewon-Unnie and Pyo Yeon-Won to excuse me and let Song Da-jung in.

I pushed her into the bathroom first because she definitely looked like a mess.

“It’s my protective camouflage!”

“We’re in the city, not the mountains. You don’t need protective camouflage.”

“Yes.. But!”

Da-jung protested weakly, but I couldn’t give in.

This was too much.

“Was she your friend from the Yeonhwado gate?”

“Yes. She was the one from the indoor gym.”

“I see. You must have been through a lot together.”

Hyewon-unnie looked at us wistfully.

She even stepped aside so we could catch up.

“That must be her.”

Song Da-Jung went out, and finally looked normal.

“The person you were looking for.”

She stared at the empty seat Hye-won left for a moment, then looked at me and smiled.

“She seems like a nice person.”

“Yeah. I owe her a lot.”

“I also saw a boy there earlier.”

Oh, she was referring to Pyo Yeon-Won.

He came down for a second, looked at the two of us, and then quietly went up.

“He’s Hyewon-Unnie’s brother. He’s also like a brother to me.”

“Really?”

Da-jung was silent for a moment.

It was like she was looking into the distance.

‘Her mood changes every now and then.’

Somehow, it was as if she was looking at a place I couldn’t see… Even beyond.

I wondered what she was seeing with that one and only eye.

“… I hope we get a chance to talk later.”

“Oh, he’s currently very weary of outsiders, but…. I’ll ask him later. Why what’s wrong?”

“He seems like he had a lot on his mind.”

Da-Jung simply dismissed the idea, and went on,

“By the way, I brought you a gift, I just forgot to mention it.”

She then suddenly pulled out something from among the clothes she had packed.

It was a dagger.

That characteristic slender sword body…… ‘Renaissance Steel’?

“When we were at the training center, I saw you using a Karambit… But I’m better at making Piercing daggers than Karambits, so… I brought this, but I don’t know if it’s okay.”

She drew it out from its scabbard and looked very excited.

‘It’s a great dagger.’

I don’t know much about blades, but I could tell at a glance.

It’s definitely a great dagger.
