You Are My Colour Palette

The giant iron gates were at least bigger than her by three times, Qin Yang gaped at the sight of the huge land beyond the gates. The security here is tight, after all the Zhao family comes from the military. Tightening her grip around the bag of gift in her hand, she presses on the doorbell.

"Please state your identity." A voice appeared from the intercom above the bell.

"Zhou Qin Yang. I am here to visit my grandfather, General Zhao." she then shifts her eyes to the camera above her, staring into the lens.

Within seconds, the iron gates open. Like a little kid that entered a fantasy land, her mouth was wide open to the ground with every step she takes, the scent of roses wafting in her nose.

A butler was already waiting for Zhou Qin Yang, as she walks towards and greets him, Old Butler Su was surprised how the young lady looks so much like Zhao Mei Ling. He bows as a sign of respect "Master Zhao is waiting for you in the backyard."

The old butler leads her around the mansion, into a maze of bushes where the roses are planted. Qin Yang takes her time looking at each rose she pass by before she noticed that she was a bit behind from Old Butler Su, Qin Yang hurriedly catch up with the old man's figure.

The elderly couple stood up as soon as they saw their granddaughter walked into the garden. Yang Li Wei ran towards Zhou Qin Yang with a warm embrace " You should have told us that you were coming for a visit, I would have asked the chef to prepare some food for us."

"You don't have to do that, granny" returning her grandmother's hug, she turns towards General Zhao to greet him" Grandfather."

General Zhao takes the gift from her hand, and smiles "How are you these days? Is that young Lee treating you well?"

"Ah Ting is treating me well." she lets out a light chuckle and sits down together with her grandparents. Old Butler Su pours tea into her cup "Would you like some dessert? The kitchen will prepare some for Miss Zhou"

Qin Yang felt bad for the kitchen staff, not only she did a surprise visit but for them to make desserts as well. Yang Li Wei gave a warm smile and place her hand over her granddaughter's, knowing that expression all to well " It is alright to ask. After all, it is their job to make food."

Taking in a breath to adjust a composure, she turns back towards the old butler " I will have strawberry parfait then."

Old Butler Su bows and leaves after hearing her order, Yang Li Wei turn to QIn Yang "So why have you decided to visit?"

"I can't visit my own grandparents? " Qin Yang chuckles. Her eyes widen and realize her habit of talking back, she embarrassingly covers her mouth " I mean I came to visit because I want to spend time with you."

The elderly couple laughs at their Qin Yang's expression, General Zhou look at her endearingly " You are just like your mother"

" I apologize... It's a habit."

"It's alright. It is nice to show a little attitude." Yang Li Wei remembers her younger days of being a little rebellious and smile towards her husband.

General Zhou chuckles " When I first met your grandmother on the first day at military school, she got into an argument with our class teacher."

Qin Yang eyes glimmer with curiosity "Really? What happened?"

"He deserved it. He was looking down at me joining the military." Yang Li Wei smugs. Qin Yang always thought her grandmother was a docile type, she thought wrong.

" Ah! I remember I was supposed to ask you a favor, granny."

"Oh? What is it?"

"My wedding dress, could you come with me to pick one out? If you are busy, I understand."

"Of course I will come with you~ Anything for my dear granddaughter."

Qin Yang's heart filled with happiness " Alright! I am planning to invite Madam Lee too."

"Lee Jia Ying? It's been a while since I had a conversation with her. Just inform me of the time and date. I will be there. "

Watching the never-ending exchange conversation between his wife and his granddaughter, General Zhou started to feel a little jealous. He pretends to clear his throat " I am still here, you know."

Yang Li Wei laughs at her husband jealousy " Speak up if you want to be heard "

" Sorry, grandpa. I got distracted."

" It's alright. Tell us your story of how you met that Lee child." General Zhou is naturally protective of his family member especially after what had happened with his own daughter, he will protect his granddaughter this time.

" Hmm... I met Jun Ting in high school. We lost contact for a few years and met again at work."

" You are working under him? " Yang Li Wei asks, worried she might be forced into the relationship because he was superior.

Qin Yang hummed " He is technically still my boss. I liked him since high school so I naturally accepted his love. We have kept our relationship private up till the engagement. " She chuckles as she remembered the reaction that her staff had when they found out about it.

Yang Li Wei heaved a sigh of relief " I see... that's good. It's hard to find a man like that these days."

" Hmph! He better be good to our Xiao Yang or else he be dead meat." General Zhou nods.

Zhou Qin Yang's heart filled with warmth, she never had any family members cared for her deeply beside her friends. She pressed her lips in a thin line, holding back her tears " Don't worry, grandpa, granny. I will make sure to keep him in check if he crosses the line!"
