Vampire Nightlife

62 Weapons and Insignias

To Lukas who knew next to nothing about Vampire Overlords, he couldn't help but feel like he was unlucky to get a weapon without its abilities being known.

But there was something he should be able to do right?

It seemed like he wasn't able to manifest the VR System that well due to it appearing only every now and then–but this System had to do something now that he acquired his first special weapon, right?

When the weapon was placed in his hands, it felt cold and metallic to the touch at first but then there was a certain hum.

"Did you hear that?" Lukas asked.

"Hear what?" Viktoria Cadis raised a brow. "Are you hearing things? Is the weapon whispering into your ears."

"What?" Lukas tossed a strange look into Viktoria's direction.

"Well, I did read that some blacksmiths are so impressive that they can pour the heart and soul of their victims into the blade."

"That's…" Lukas didn't know what to say.

"I do think it's important but you just have to figure out what it can do by yourself."

"Why hasn't anyone ever learned it?" Lukas asked.

"Sometimes, when the weapon is in the wrong hands and a person tries to activate its hidden features–it can also attack and kill its user. Once again based on stories, but it was not worth risking."

"Excuse me?" Lukas made a face. "There's something like that and yet you gave this weapon to me?"

"I mean there's a reason why most of the relics are on display. It's dangerous to use them if you're not from the same bloodline or are incapable of wielding it–but I had a hunch."

"A hunch?"

"That you'll be able to survive." Viktoria grinned.

"And you can say that because…?"

"My special eye can tell. I have a really good feeling–"

"Please don't believe her words. She can hardly use her bloodline at all–please return that to its display." Serena said. "Or if you wish to use it, please don't try tinkering with it."

"... I'd like to keep it." Lukas decided.

He wasn't usually a risk-taker such as this, but would it really be possible for him to endanger himself with a weapon that belonged to someone else? Maybe it was guarded jealously in the past, but would a Vampire really curse a weapon to attack a user that wasn't related to him or her?

The answer was yes–but contrary to Serena, Lukas wanted to believe in Viktoria for some reason. The way that her eye gleamed was somehow something that triggered within him.

He just couldn't explain it.

"Alright, then you can use it." Serena said. "As for the other weapons, I'll have it delivered to you in the morning. I presume that Theodore will visit you tomorrow to pick you up and discuss the route you will be taking."

"Thank you."

So many things happened in one night that as Lukas returned home, he couldn't believe it himself.

"The anniversary party, Lily and needing to find a cure for her due to the accident–this birthmark thing and the truth about the original Lukas and then finally meeting the owner of Blood Works and getting this weapon."

He held the dagger in his hand and returned to his apartment room.

Lukas was more than excited to just get back into the bed and actually rest after the incredible fatigue that he had experienced after dealing with one event into another and maybe enjoy the bed as much as possible, but then he found something.

Or found no one.

Chaerin was gone.

Lukas' eyes widened and he knew that he should contact her–but before he could try calling her via bracer or something else, he saw something on top of the bed.

He approached and picked up the piece of paper, finding a note written for him.

"Lukas, I don't know where you went–but I had to talk with my sister since I'm leaving tomorrow with you. I'll see you in the morning, alright? Love, Chaerin."

The note made him sigh a little, but there was nothing he could do about it. It was easy for Lukas to make decisions in the past since he didn't have any obligations to anyone or had any close family.

But Chaerin had a sister so it was actually fair for her to say her goodbyes.

"I was planning to snuggle close to Chaerin so I could really get some sleep and rest. But this kind of changes things for me."

Lukas looked around the apartment and found one of the first few items that he found when he first arrived in the world. The laptop itself seemed like it was ordinary, but the fact that he could use the System with it seemed to say it was far more special.

He took the laptop to his bed and placed the ornate dagger beside him at first. And then he started to check around the window screen for anything special at all.

It had a simple digital background at first–something in the typical blue, but then there was something that caught his eye.

There was a butterfly insignia at the bottom of the screen with the letters F and I on each wing. Lukas was willing to dismiss it at first, maybe pay it heed as something that was merely a design and yet he clicked his tongue.

"I… I've seen that somewhere." Lukas closed his eyes and tried to recall from where.

"Come on brain, you're designed to be some kind of top-tier Vampire brain now so memories are supposed to be a piece of cake. Remember—remember, wait fuck."

Lukas' eyes widened.

The memory finally came to his mind.

"T-that was the insignia at the top of the End User License Agreement!" Lukas exclaimed and then finally laughed. He slapped a hand over his face and shook his head. "I can't believe that actually worked, saying that my Vampire brain should be able to remember. Good job brain, but what does F.I. and butterflies mean?"
