Travelling Frog – Chapter 11 Back to everyday life (I) – OnTimeStory

Post author:Lajna11-14 minutes

System prompt: You have returned to the real world. The maximum time you can stay here is one week.

System prompt: New World triggered a countdown of six days, twenty-one hours, thirty-two minutes, and nineteen seconds…

Closing the task panel, Gin entered a long-unvisited house by unlocking the door with a password. Thick dust covered almost everything in the room, making Gin cough as the dust hit his face. He turned on the lights and saw that there were few things in the house, making it easy to clean.

There were cleaning tools such as brooms, dustpans, and mops in the utility room, and dishwashing liquid and rags next to the kitchen sink, which were left by the previous owner. Gin lifted the rabbit from his shoulder, rolled up his sleeves, and began sweeping the floor with a broom and dustpan.

“I’ll probably need half an hour to clean. You can use this time to explain,” he lazily said.

“…”

The rabbit raised its front paws and covered its eyes: ‘Give me some time to organize my thoughts. It’s complicated to explain.”

Gin nodded and swept the living room along the wall, then went to the bathroom to fetch a bucket of water and slowly mopped the floor.

Halfway through, the rabbit finally organized its thoughts and revealed the origin, design, and purpose of the game.

The game was called “Chronicle Restorer” and was a single-player RPG. The prototype of the player’s character, the “restorer” was Gin who would travel to different worlds to complete tasks, and the game’s map and dungeons were based on the tasks Gin completed and the worlds he visited.

Of course, anyone could play this game except for Gin, who was the only platinum NPC and the prototype of the limited edition card “The First Restorer” in the game’s closed beta test. In other words, he was the official Game master and could freely influence and even modify the game’s internal data through the system.

“I’m a card?” Gin grabbed the rabbit’s ear with one hand and stared at it coldly after listening to the simplified design concept: “Don’t tell me I’m a character that can be conquered?”

“Uh… a prey for sparrow hawks.” The rabbit nodded reluctantly and then felt its neck tighten as it was about to be thrown into the dirty water that was just used to mop floor: ‘Wait, wait! You’re not just an ordinary conquerable character! You have a uniqueness that can be conquered!”

Gin had lifted the rabbit above the water bucket, but upon hearing this, he didn’t throw it in immediately. He just shook it warningly and said: “Explain it clearly.”

The rabbit’s ears stood straight up with tension, not daring to move for fear of falling into the water: “What it means is that your character can only be conquered by a specific player” he explained.

“What specific player?” Gin lowered his hand slightly.

The rabbit quickly withdrew its paws, which were about to touch the surface of the water, and chuckled: “It’s… the kind of player who triggers the server-wide unique mission to help you fight and win, while using their own game character… or as the cost of the mission panel breaking, they block the deadly crisis encountered during the mission for you.”

“…”

The unexpected answer surprised Gin, who remembered the speed and strength that occasionally skyrocketed from the original bonus when he ended the ancient god’s remains, as well as the “eternal blessing” item in the system prompt. He casually threw the rabbit onto the sofa.

The rabbit breathed a sigh of relief and rolled onto the sofa, shaking off the dust that had gathered on its fur: “There will only be one such player, marked by the system. Every time you fight, he will help you through the game panel. Oh, by the way…” He said as he suddenly remembered something and scratched the short hair on his ear. He smiled innocently at Gin: “I set up a favorability system for him. Every time his favorability level increases, you have to record a voice message and give him a gift.”

“…”

Gin never imagined that his first part-time job after leaving the organization would be as a voice actor.

“Recording just a few lines, and giving whatever gift you want, after all, he did spend money… cough cough, he died for you tens of thousands of times. Besides, I made it very difficult to increase the favorability level, and the value growth of each level is very high, so it won’t be very troublesome.”

The rabbit looked at Gin expectantly, bowing and clasping its paws together.

Gin leaned on the mop and looked at it for a while, not saying whether he agreed or not. He lightly tapped the rabbit with his finger: “You’re so honest, what happened to your bossy style you punk? Are you holding back some evil plan against me?”

“Look at what you’re saying, I’m just a version update, and my personality module has been changed to a different style.” The rabbit bounced onto the back of the sofa, brushing off some rabbit fur and raising its head proudly: “If you like a certain personality, I can switch back.”

“….No need.”

Gin turned his back to it and continued to mop the floor, accepting the conditions the rabbit had proposed.

The rabbit hopped excitedly a few times, causing a cloud of dust to rise, choking itself. Gin lifted it up onto the nearby dining table with two fingers in disdain, about to tell it to behave. When suddenly, the system panel popped up on its own.

System prompt: In three minutes, Player [Traveler One] will complete the special event [Illusory Rainbow], and the favorability level of the game character [First Generation Restorer] will increase to level one. Please upload the favorability level voice message, journey CG video, and gift as soon as possible.

Gin: “…”

The rabbit suddenly jumped up high, and its fur stood up: “Quick, I’ll go edit the video, you record the audio!”

Gin was caught off guard for once: “Record what? Is there a script?”

“Script..” The rabbit hesitated for a moment in the midst of his action: “Are you sure you want to see it?”

Gin didn’t hesitate at all: “I’ll improvise!”

….

“Chronicle Restorer” was a magical game that gave humans an extra layer of exhaustion.

This was the review of Hideyoshi Akai in his rare moment of relief after ten hours of grinding, finally seeing the light of increased favorability.

Due to the exquisite quality of both the main and side animations, Hideyoshi Akai switched from playing on his small phone screen to playing on his PC to better follow the plot.

This game was excellent in all aspects, but surprisingly, the installation package was not large and did not require a high computer configuration. It truly achieved the goal of being accessible to everyone. If it weren’t for the fact that the buttons on his old phone were harder to operate, Hideyoshi Akai had no doubt that the developer would have made a “geriatric version.”

After all his ability to make money was not shabby… so why not fleece the sheep in every possible way?

Lying on the bed, Hideyoshi Akai held a hamburger in his left hand and coffee in his right, staring at the screen while eating his dinner.

After almost clearing all the main and side plot lines that had a walkthrough, and incidentally clearing the daily horde of monsters on the small map, he triggered a total of ninety non-repeating special events and this was the last one, bringing his favorability bar to nine hundred and ninety.

A special event added ten favorability points, and after grinding for a day Hideyoshi Akai wanted to bash the planner’s head in.

The game’s art, copywriting, and bald-headed programmers were all gods, but only the planner needed to be dealt with.

On the forum, there were already posts suggesting that the art, copywriting, and programming departments should force the planner to work. Hideyoshi Akai thought the author’s post made a lot of sense and left a precious thumbs up in the lower right corner of the post.

The plot on the screen had reached its conclusion, and in a colorful rainbow reminiscent of the aurora, a young boy and girl walked away hand in hand, slowly disappearing until their figures faded away.

This wasn’t a happy ending, but true love prevails, giving a bit of comfort to players who have finished the plot.

The steel heart of Hideyoshi Akai was left with a bit of sourness after this final scene. Swallowing the last bite of the hamburger, he collected his reward and exited the special event interface, returning with a bit of anticipation to the main panel, and clicking to open the character panel for “First-Generation Restorer.”

The handsome and aloof young man sat cross-legged in the void. As his favorability level changed from “Level 1” to “Level 2,” a slight smile appeared on his face as he looked up at Hideyoshi Akai.

As he watched the scene, he felt a jolt in his heart as if the boundary between reality and illusion was about to shatter. The power of “Dream Rainbow” he had just activated seemed to seep into the machine, and his trembling hands were wrapped in it, pulling him into a dream.

Hideyoshi Akai took a deep breath and reached out to touch the face of “First Generation Restorer.” The touch of his fingertips was icy and stiff, since he couldn’t penetrate the illusion to touch the real person.

Touching him was pointless. “First Generation Restorer” was not him, but just happened to have the same face and similar personality traits. But if his voice actor’s voice was closer to that person’s original voice he then could imagine…

Forget it, it was better to give up on such fantasies.

Hideyoshi Akai withdrew his hand and clicked on the “Voice” section below the favorability bar with little enthusiasm. A new ten-second voice message automatically popped up and played.

“Sullivia blue flowers bloomed, I picked a bunch and gave them to you. Thank you for your help.”

The moment the first word came out of the speaker, Hideyoshi Akai was stunned, petrified in place, frozen in shock and amazement.

“Are you… really…”

After listening to it for the first time, Hideyoshi Akai was stunned for a long time before he regained his senses. He murmured in a broken voice and then mechanically clicked on replay, playing it over and over again.

“Sullivia blue flowers bloomed, I picked a bunch and gave them to you. Thank you for your help.”

“Sullivia blue flowers bloomed, I picked a bunch and gave them to you. Thank you for your help.”

“Sullivia blue flowers bloomed, I picked a bunch and gave them to you. Thank you for your help.”

“Sullivia blue flowers bloomed, I picked a bunch and gave them to you….”

“… and gave them to you…”

A small icon appeared on the right side of the screen, a minute later, it automatically opened, revealing a bunch of blue flowers and a postcard with the same pattern as the voice message. The postcard was written with the content of the “First Generation Restorer” voice message, in a handwriting that was both messy and resembled someone else handwriting.

The postcard lingered for a moment before slowly merging into a dark color. A galactic starlight crossed over, as if erasing a sand painting. The handsome young man walked out of the bright light, leaning on his stone stick, slowly walking on the open wilderness. The low-hanging hood was lifted by the wind, revealing a pair of lifeless eyes that looked ahead, at his destination, his way home.

-The “Traveler One” in front of the screen.

Hideyoshi Akai blinked, feeling warm liquid rolling down his face and hitting his hand.
