Ch9 - Turmoil

Although Mu Feibai didn’t turn on his live broadcast when practising in rank with Du Chen and Lin Jinxi, Qiu Yu’s broadcast had always been on. Hence, soon, the news about how Qiu Yu once more rejected Mu Feibai’s friend invite was spread to Mu Feibai’s fan base.

Fans followed their owner—Mu Feibai was easy-going and loved to joke, so the majority of his fans were also quite sha diao—not at all minding that their family’s god Mu was rejected multiple times, they got together to laugh at his misfortune.

Very quickly, a post titled “818 that one guy god Mu wants but can’t get” rose to the hot searches of the online gaming platform’s “Century’s Finale” forum.

The post not only featured two video snippets of Qiu Yu forthrightly rejecting Mu Feibai, it also described when Mu Feibai sent a friend invite but never got a response. At the bottom of the post was a recording of the two people’s perspectives from their broadcasts—showing the moment Mu Feibai was shot through the heart by a single arrow from Qiu Yu.

[Woah this guy… who is this guy? He can fight Mu Feibai to this extent?]

[He’s a professional player right? A training account or a trumpet.]

[I was in his broadcast, I remember him saying he wasn’t a professional esports player.]

[So… all I want to know is, did god Mu eventually broadcast himself washing his hair in a handstand?]

[Of course he did! (smug), he never runs without paying the bill on his fallen Fgs! I even screen-recorded it (video link)]

[Hahahaha laughing to death, he actually did wash his hair in a handstand!]

[…For some reason I’m suddenly hoping that Ghost2207 is O pretending to be a B. Wanting to see god Mu, who never runs away before paying to kneel and propose on the spot!]

[Upstairs, while you’re at it, do you also want to substitute Ghost’s face for your own?]

[Life is hard enough as it is, don’t burst my bubble!]

[No way right? I can’t be the only one who thinks this Ghost is just grandstanding, right? The only reason he could kill Mu Feibai in the first place was because someone in the barrage revealed Mu Feibai’s position, otherwise, how could he even find him? Also, regarding the two rejections, I feel like he is just playing hard to get. If he really doesn’t want to get involved with Mu Feibai, why would he follow his commands so obediently when they were on the same team? Or couldn’t he passive-aggressively refuse to cooperate?]

[??? What’s up with the revealing position incident?]

[The post didn’t mention it, but someone recorded the entire broadcast, have a look for yourself (video link)]

[Actually I also feel like this Ghost isn’t quite right, why would a male Beta have such a milky voice? Maybe he intentionally turned on the voice changer to make others mistake him for an Omega. The body of a hunk paired with a voice like that is so disgusting XP…]

The initially happy laughter in the comments gradually became less and less harmonious, and eventually disintegrated into a battle royale between keyboard warriors. On the next day, invested parties began heading towards Qiu Yu’s broadcast and raced to the barrage—some scolded him for rubbing popularity, some mocked him for playing hard-to-get and thinking too highly of himself, and others told him to turn off his voice changer.

Nowadays, Qiu Yu had a room mod to manage his broadcast room, so the troublemakers were quickly kicked out and blocked. However, this was also recorded and put onto the forum, which then accused Qiu Yu of being domineering and unreasonable.

“Why are you this angry?” Qiu Yu exasperatedly smiled, he didn’t let this affect him, “All they can do is scold others online, it’s not like they can actually hurt me.”

Xu Qingqing puffed up in anger, “Those people must not be real fans of god Mu. None of us in the fan group have ever said anything bad about you, and many of us are even fighting those people online!”

Qiu Yu comforted her, “Mmh, I know. Alright, don’t get angry anymore, it’s not that big of a deal. Would you like some more mint water?”

Taking a sip of the mint water, Xu Qingqing put down the cup and looked toward Qiu Yu, “Why didn’t you add Mu Feibai as a friend? Don’t you like him as well?”

“He’s a professional esports player, so I didn’t want to disturb him. It’s not appropriate.” Qiu Yu added casually, “We can play together if we happen to meet in the game, if not then that’s fine as well. It’s all up to fate.”

Xu Qingqing looked at him, “Do you know how many Omegas want to marry him?”

Qiu Yu was helpless, “Then that’s even more reason for me to not add him as a friend.”

After a moment of silence, Xu Qingqing asked, “Are you still thinking about your childhood friend? Isn’t he already married?”

Qiu Yu couldn’t explain the reason, and he didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “It’s got nothing to do with him.”

When the original body had decided to end his life, he had already blocked all methods of contact with his childhood friend. He was extremely resolute, even deleting all the photos in his bracelet. There was no way Qiu Yu would voluntarily look for trouble and bring the childhood friend out of the blocklist, so the situation was fine currently as it is.

Xu Qingqing took Qiu Yu as a bosom friend and chatted with him about marriage for a while, before she was finally able to calm the anger roused by the post and comments.

But she was worried that Qiu Yu was only pretending not to care, and kept all his negative emotions bottled up inside. She thought for a moment, before proposing, “How about, I’ll accompany you to sleep today?”

Qiu Yu: …….

A little sister, proposing to sleep with him?

What kind of weird progression is this?!

Qiu Yu’s mind drifted into memories of the apocalypse, on an occasion where his troops cooperated with another military force to complete a certain mission. A female mercenary on that other force was quite unrestrained, she reached out and hooked his neck, saying, “Wanna go sleep together? You’re so strong, our children will definitely survive.”

“This, this isn’t appropriate,” Qiu Yu refused with a strange look on his face, “It’s getting late, you should go home soon.”

Although he was an Omega, he was still a male, who had all the parts he should have. However he thought about it, it was a little strange to sleep with a girl in the same bed.

After somehow driving Xu Qingqing back to her apartment next door, Qiu Yu was in a strange mood as he washed up and went to bed.

Who knew, this night he inexplicably had a dream.

His dreamscapes were extremely blurry and illogical; the background seemed to be a battlefield, and the booming of cannons and guns and the howls of beasts rang in his ears. A raging fire swept through the camp he was in, but his comrade held him firmly from the behind and kissed him, seemingly oblivious to the imminent crisis.

A voice that hovered between that of a youth and a man mumbled by his ears, “We cooperate so well, why do you have to run?”

The dreamscape flickered, even the features of the one standing behind him were blurry. Qiu Yu knew he was his comrade-in-arms, but he wasn’t sure who. However he didn’t feel the slightest vigilance and resistance, as though what happened was a matter of course.

The flames burned hotter.

His consciousness was instantly withdrawn as the flames reached him, and Qiu Yu woke up from his dream.

A familiar burning sensation was flowing along his veins. His breaths became short and rapid, and droplets of sweat appeared on his forehead. He gritted his teeth to swallow the cry that almost escaped his throat. With trembling fingers, he pulled open the bedside drawer, found the inhibitor capsule and placed it in his mouth, chewing hard.

The icy coldness and bitterness of the medicinal powder rushed towards his head, finally summoning back his almost out-of-control mind and sobriety.

Qiu Yu curled up on his bed, gasping.

Fragments of memories appeared in his mind, blankly, Qiu Yu reached out towards the still open drawer, taking out a rectangular shaped box. He opened the lid, revealing the object inside.

Instantly, countless memories flashed through his mind. Exciting ones, pleasant ones, wanton ones that filled the emptiness and soothed his trembling soul, and the sweet sounds that left the original body’s lips and the imagined caresses that existed only in a fantasy…

As though he was burned, Qiu Yu fiercely threw the box back into the drawer, unable to stop himself from blurting out, “Fuck.”

It turns out that merely using inhibitors wasn’t enough to get through the torment of heat.

But as a straight man, how could he be like the original body and… use that thing…

Wait, that’s not right.

In the dream he just had, he seemed to be…

How could he have dreamed himself—

This freaking world!

Qiu Yu didn’t believe in evil, and curled up under the quilt, trying to comfort himself the way he had before.

However in the end, he found out that the past method didn’t seem very effective on this current body, like scratching an itch across a boot, there was no way to get to the place that needed it the most.

The good thing was, the inhibitors slowly took effect and his heat slowly became bearable.

According to his memories, the effect of the inhibitor capsules in the three-day heat period was only to this extent—allowing him to maintain sobriety, and not think of that sort of thing every moment of every day. Beyond that, it could not completely eliminate the body’s craving for some things.

Because he didn’t take inhibitors in his last heat, he had entered a dangerous state and the doctor had to inject a fast-acting emergency type inhibitor into his system in order to suppress the effects of his heat for the next two days.

However, fast-acting emergency inhibitors were highly harmful to one’s pheromone glands. It was fine for emergency use, but if one were to use it regularly, it would destroy their glands in less than a year, which would be life-threatening.

Helpless, Qiu Yu decided to deal with it the way the original body had in his memories, by hiding in the virtual world and relying on the lowered nerve-sensitivity of the full-dive technology to further reduce the physical effects of his heat.

However, even though the neural-connection technology minimised the effects of the heat period, it would still make one feel irritable, restless and unable to concentrate. Under these circumstances, Qiu Yu unprecedentedly lost three games in a row, was sniped once in a survival round, and fell from 3-star Legend to 2-star.

As he needed to take medication regularly on time, Qiu Yu couldn’t continue playing for extended periods. Although it was already the early hours of the morning, Qiu Yu still turned on his broadcast, intending to piece together enough time to make the eight-hour full-time requirement.

Hence, on the morning of the next day, recordings of him being sniped in the survival round were uploaded onto the gaming forum, taking revenge on the grudge borne from his one arrow.

……

“Tch, they’re making something out of nothing,” Du Chen turned off the light screen of his bracelet, “Who doesn’t have times when they’re feeling out of it? These people suck at playing themselves, and all they know is to point fingers and pick at others.”

“Who said it’s not?” Zhou Shu said, laughing, “I was actually really looking forward to the boss signing him. He can reject our captain, but he can’t reject even our boss, right?”

Just as his voice fell, the training room’s door was suddenly pushed open

Mu Feibai entered with a strange and tangled expression, with his lashes lowered, no one could tell what he was thinking.

Zhou Shy excitedly leaned over, “How is it? Did they successfully sign him?”

Mu Feibai froze for a moment, as though he didn’t know where to start.

Zhou Shu slapped his shoulder, “The boss even called you over, there should be some progress, right?”

After a moment of silence, Mu Feibai sighed, “Ghost, he… he’s an Omega.”
