Ch13 - Catching wind

[It’s starting, it’s starting! Will god Mu, who never runs before paying for his Fgs, kneel and propose on the spot?]

[Ermm this… please don’t? Just thinking about that scene makes my toes dig into the floor…]

[Hahahaha I also think god Mu definitely won’t pay this time, proposing to an unfamiliar Omega really is too awkward.]

In the broadcast room of an Eagle Rider who loved being on the scene of events, the general vibe of comments was drastically different from what the online keyboard warriors focused on.

[All of you guys are betting on whether god Mu will run without paying, but am I the only one who thought that the gaze this Omega looked around the scene was really scary? If not for the fact that his appearance is really beautiful and definitely not fake, I would’ve really thought that he’s an Alpha pretending to be an Omega, ying!]

[Wow! I used to think however fierce an Omega is, it’ll always be that cutesy, milky kind of fierce, but that look in his eyes just then actually really scared me… TvT]

[I saw it too! But why did it give me da feels tho? Does such an Alpha-like Omega really exist?]

At this moment, under countless flashes of lights and camera lenses, Mu Feibai stepped forwards towards Qiu Yu and stretched out a hand with a smile, “Hello, welcome to the Eagle Riders battle team. I’m Mu Feibai, your captain.”

Qiu Yu didn’t dither, and unreservedly shook his hand, “Hello captain. I’m Qiu Yu.”

The two’s meeting outside of the garden gates was actually deliberately arranged by the battle team. To have Mu Feibai personally welcome the new member was to show how the two’s friendly relationship would not be impacted by their difference in genders, and also to tell the netizens that the Eagle Riders didn’t mind whether a competitor was an Omega or an Alpha, but rather, placed emphasis on their excellence and skills.

The flashes of lights around them blurred together. After greeting Qiu Yu, Mu Feibai smoothly took over Qiu Yu’s luggage from the battle team manager, Yuan Lu, before pointing out Zhou Shu, who had been looking on the excitement, to help carry the rest of the boxes.

Mu Feibai and Zhou Shu brought Qiu Yu and his baggage into the garden area, and they soon arrived at the Eagle Riders’ building, while the group of reporters and onlookers were blocked outside the gates.

At this moment, only the floating camera controlled by Zhou Shu continued broadcasting, and he happily chatted away to Qiu Yu, “Heyo, my name is Zhou Shu, I play the sniper position in-game. Although I haven’t teamed up with you yet, I have seen recordings of your ranked matches. According to captain and Du Chen, you’re pretty strong, huh?”

Qiu Yu glanced at the camera, and didn’t deliberately try to be humble, “Professional level.”

Hearing this, Zhou Shu was stunned for a moment, before he laughed aloud, “Oh fuck, are you saying this just for the netizens to hear? Heihei, l tend to like your type of person!”

In his broadcast room, Eagle Riders’ iron fans continued their sha diao style comments:

We’re sorry for MTLers or people who like using reading mode, but our translations keep getting stolen by aggregators so we’re going to bring back the copy protection. If you need to MTL please retype the gibberish parts.

[No way! Not allowed! There is no future between a Beta and an Omega!]

[Little baby Zhou, you’re not allowed to rob god Mu of his Fg! Make him kneel and propose first before you’re allowed to like him!]

[So is god Mu really going to run without paying this time?]

Zhou Shu, in a manner that was unafraid of death, raised his bracelet and howled a sentence into the broadcast room: “Your god Mu’s eating vinegar!”

Eating vinegar?

Qiu Yu raised his eyebrows and looked up towards Mu Feibai.

“Ahem, he was just joking.” Mu Feibai felt a little awkward being looked at, and rubbed his nose. Changing the subject, he said, “Later, you can tidy your dorm first, and at night there’s going to be a small-scale welcome party, just to get to know everyone.”

In this garden area, the Eagle Riders club occupied a five storey building by themselves, housing six battle teams from different games. The first floor was the administrative area and the competition venue, the second and third floors were training rooms for different teams, and the fourth and fifth floors were the players’ living areas.

Yuan Lu briefly introduced the place to him as she brought Qiu Yu and the others to the East side of the fourth floor. Rooms in this section were dedicated to the “Century’s Finale” battle team, each one was a suite, with individual bathrooms, but not too big and didn’t have a kitchen.

“Usually people eat in the cafeteria, but if you think that’s too inconvenient, you can also get your teammates to pack some for you.” As Yuan Lu spoke, she gestured Mu Feibai to place the luggage outside the door of Qiu Yu’s room, and continued, “I’ll be living right opposite you. After you’re done tidying up, come find me and I’ll take you to the cafeteria.”

After helping move the luggages, Mu Feibai pulled Zhou Shu to leave the dorm area. Qiu Yu took a simple shower, blow dried his hair, and changed his clothes before knocking on Yuan Lu’s door, going together to attend the welcome party in the cafeteria.

Although it’s said to be a welcome party, it was, in actuality, nothing more than the boss Li Tingzhen and Coach He Jingxing preparing some food together with the battle team members. There were no decorations, they only gathered the entire battle team together to eat some food, and prepared some low-alcohol cocktails to liven up the atmosphere.

Seeing Qiu Yu arrive, Mu Feibai stood up with a smile, and, perfectly in line with his duty as a captain, introduced Qiu Yu to everyone. “You’ve already met Zhou Shu, that tall kid next to him is called Du Chen, he’s an Alpha. Although his face is kinda icy and cold, all his hair spikes up when you tease him, it’s really fun… Ahem, he is currently playing adc in the team, and you’ve teamed up with him in rank before…”

As he spoke, he jerked his chin towards Du Chen, “What are you frozen for? Come say hello.”

Qiu Yu had some impression of this big kid. Earlier, the moment he entered the cafeteria, the other’s gaze had always been on him. The only thing was, as he walked closer, the other averted his gaze, and didn’t look at him anymore.

Du Chen pursed his lips, and with a reluctant expression on his face, raised his cup towards Qiu Yu, “Welcome.”

Seeing his unwillingness to speak and his stinky expression, Qiu Yu didn’t say anything more and returned a perfunctory “Thank you”, before casting his gaze towards a graceful looking youth with semi-long hair.

“Lin Jinxi, Beta. He’s originally a substitute, but it seems like he’ll have to debut in the summer season. Recently he’s been training in support,” Mu Feibai said, “he’s also teamed up with you before.”

Lin Jinxi stood up and politely toasted QiuYu in greeting, “Welcome, Qiu ge!”

Qiu Yu smiled, “I remember you, I saw you in the Spring Season competition broadcasts, your battlefield awareness is quite good.” Just a little lacking in experience and individual strength, but the second half of that sentence didn’t need to be said in this situation.

Lastly, Mu Feibai slung an arm around a shy looking boy, and smilingly introduced him, “This is Lu Cun, the substitute chosen from the youth camp just a couple of days ago, also a Beta. He watched our confrontation in that ranking match, and especially admired you. In the training camp he said he wanted to take you as a master and learn archery. This time, knowing the club was going to sign you on, I specifically chose him for the team…”

Lu Cun’s face immediately flushed red in embarrassment, “Captain!”

Qiu Yu had been through battles for many years in the apocalypse, and had also taught many excellent soldiers. Hearing that Lu Cun wanted to take him as a master, he thought this child was quite interesting. He thought about how he was to stay in this battle team for a year, and there was no issues with teaching Lu Cun a bit, so he casually teased, “I can teach you, but you have to call me master.”

Who knew that Lu Cun, whose embarrassed flush still hadn’t faded, would unhesitatingly stand to attention and call out, “Master!”

The two confirmed their master-pupil relationship the moment they met, stunning Mu Feibai into silence on the side.

He Jingxing and Li Tingzhen were amused at their antics, and smilingly stamped their approval on their master-pupil relationship, “Then you’re going to have to learn from your Qiu ge properly, xiao Lu. If you can’t get good results in the archery assessment, you won’t only be embarrassing yourself!”

Lu Cun seriously nodded, staring at Qiu Yu with stars in his eyes.

Qiu Yu was suddenly reminded of a soldier he had cultivated before he died, who was around sixteen or seventeen just like Lu Cun. He had already taught eighty to ninety percent of Qiu Yu’s shooting techniques, both with a bow and a gun. It was unknown if he survived that brutal last battle…

Hence, Qiu Yu’s gaze towards Lu Cun became even more… full of maternal love.

“Ahem!” Mu Feibai cleared his throat and raised his cup, “Here’s a toast to welcome our new teammate!”

……

Until the welcome party was over and everyone had drank and eaten their fill, Coach He announced that tonight’s training would become free time, and let everyone leave.

Du Chen had made plans a long time ago to play Rank with Lin Jinxi and Lu Cun, while Zhou Shu was penalised to complete two extra trainings by the coach after making a low-level mistake in the morning training, and was dragged off to the training room by Yuan Lu.

Hence, there was only Mu Feibai left to take Qiu Yu to the dorms.

Actually Qiu Yu did remember the way there, and it wasn’t that far of a walk from the cafeteria to where he lived so there was no need for someone to take him there.

However Mu Feibai said, “There isn’t just one battle team in this building, there are Alphas in other teams too, so it’s still dangerous for you to go around everywhere by yourself.”

Qiu Yu reminded him, “You’re an Alpha as well.”

Mu Feibai himself was a source of danger.

Mu Feibai seriously shook his head, “I’m different, I’m an Alpha who can control himself.”

Qiu Yu smiled, noncommittal.

Perhaps it was because he had heard too many violent incidents as a child, the original body’s memories regarding Alphas were mostly filled with fear. Even when facing that childhood friend surnamed Wen, the original body faced him with an anticipatory yet fearful mentality.

These memories directly resulted in Qiu Yu’s extreme rejection of Alphas the moment he arrived in this world, and it was also because of these memories that he had initially decided to hide at home.

However, after he personally experienced an Alpha knocking on his door to find faults, riding a public spaceship, and today’s short interactions with the two Alphas on the team, Qiu Yu found that there was no need to feel an extreme fear towards Alphas—Alphas were humans after all, not beasts. And moreover, most Alphas, when not under the influence of Omega pheromones, were still pretty logical and sane and could even be quite friendly.

As for those like Xu Qingqing’s step-brother, who utilise their stronger Alpha physiques to take advantage of Omegas, it can only be said that there are terrible people everywhere, and is not a good enough reason for Qiu Yu to maintain a fearful attitude when facing Alphas.

Especially as he had faced lethal dangers quite often in the Apocalyptic world.

Furthermore, the contract he signed with the Eagle Riders battle team did include a clause that required protecting personal safety, and the battle team had also, as promised, asked Mu Feibai and Du Chen to inject Alpha inhibitors.

Therefore, Qiu Yu judged that within the environment of the club, he could safely and assuredly interact with the two Alphas.
