Chu Lixue was caught in a wave of sympathy, even if she previously wanted Mu Ruqin to leave, she still wanted to make sure that Mu Ruqin would leave with good feelings, after all she wanted her to join her group. Now hearing about her family, she truly felt a little sad for her.

"Where did your family used to live before the Apocalypse?"

"Here and there, last time I heard they stayed near the East District.", answered Mu Ruqin, making sure not to give too many details.

The East District was one of the less populated areas in the city, with most homes built there being villas belonging to the richer side of population.

"…The army is slowly cleaning up next districts of the city. As long as your family didn't turn into zombies right at the beginning, they only needed to find some food and could just close the doors and wait for help..."

*Sigh*

"Yeah, I'm afraid they aren't the type of people to just sit down and wait for help..."

"Well, perhaps they managed to somehow make it into the base."

Chu Lixue was well aware of the dangers of moving through densely populated areas. Even through the East District shouldn't have much zombies, the way to the military base was long and went through quite a lot of populated places.

How many of the zombies in the sea of corpses had been people from the city?

Search teams combed the city to collect all sorts of resources after the base had stabilized. Any encountered zombies would be dealt with, but the enemies were endless. It was possible that Mu Ruqin's family was already dead.

"Well, as long as there is a chance they survived, we'll meet again somehow."

Mu Ruqin decided to switch topics and asked about something that she was curious about, "What about your family? I haven't seen anyone else aside from your daughter so far?"

Chu Lixue sighed, "They died last year."

Mu Ruqin was stunned, as she knew it wasn't possible for her family to be dead. Aside from the fact that she saw information's about them in her brother's files, even in the Apocalypse, she wasn't willing to believe that a family like that wouldn't have a way to survive...

She couldn't however vent off her emotions, since technically her sister-in-law didn't even know her brother's name...

"My condolences…"

"It is fine, it has been months now. I've already got used to the feeling.", Chu Lixue lied with straight eyes. If she didn't know the truth, Mu Ruqin perhaps would have truly believed her.

Even through Chu Lixue didn't have any feeling for her pseudo father and sister in this world, upon touching this topic, she truly felt a little sad. After all, she had died pretty young in her original world, and her parents were still alive back then. Recalling her family and some of the good memories she had with them, she truly felt a little saddened.

Chu Lixue faintly smiled and was shocked, just noticing that with the lights off she could speak to Mu Ruqin like an ordinary person, almost like friends. She thought that aside from her daughter, she would be too scared to open up to anybody currently, considering her circ.u.mstances...

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you remember bad things" Mu Ruqin sincerely apologized. Previously she had observed Chu Lixue's face, and while it wasn't for long, she managed to notice the sadness that crept through her eyes.

She did not think that her words would poke at another person's weak spots. Of course, Mu Ruqin knew that she was definitively not sad because of her father. She only thought that perhaps Chu Lixue was reminded of her dead mother by her.

"It's fine.", said Chu Lixue, before adding, "If you need, I can help inquire about your parents..."

It was difficult to get information's during Apocalypse, but it wasn't impossible.

Mu Ruqin quickly opened her mouth and wanted to say, 'No, with their status and abilities, even if they didn't want to, they would be taken to the safest, most protected area immediately when something goes wrong', but managed to remind herself of her situation and closed her mouth.

With some difficulty and pain that she felt during movement, she moved her body to her side and looked towards Chu Lixue.

"Yes?" Chu Lixue turned in confusion and looked towards Mu Ruqin, her voice trailing towards Mu Ruqin, "Don't move too much. I already told you that you will open up your injuries again!"

"I'm alright, you don't need to worry so much."

"Besides, my family will probably be fine. It's not worth loosing time to look for them..."

Chu Lixue felt slightly depressed, but quickly pushed the thoughts away. "Well, I guess nothing to worry about then."

"How did you awaken your ability?" Chu Lixue asked, hoping to change the topic. Well, in truth she was also curious how people awake their abilities as well. She waited for a while, but hearing no response, she checked on Mu Ruqin and found out that she has already felt asleep. Seeing this, she couldn't help but show a little smile.

"Well, time for me to sleep as well. Goodnight my little princess.", Chu Lixue whispered towards her daughter, before taking her inside her arms, making sure they were both comfortable and slowly closing her eyes. Soon, only sounds of even breathing could be heard inside the room.
