The Zombie Queen’s Second Chance [Rewrite Ongoing]

"What the hell did just happen...", muttered Chu Lixue, trying to control her beating heart. Not only was it her first time being in a fight, but she also almost lost her life during it.

*Whining*

Following the sound of a dog's whining, her eyes turned to the sight of her German Shepherd, l.i.c.k.i.n.g an unconscious little girl. Running to her little savior, she began to check if everything is alright with her. After making sure the girl was breathing, and seeing that she wasn't injured, she slowly calmed her emotions.

"Good job Lucky, you protected her well."

Taking the little girl's body into her arms, she stood up and looked at the bunch of knocked out low-life's, that tried to hurt them. In the end, she still couldn't cross the last barrier and kill them.

Imprisoning their bodies inside a room made out of dirt, she began to wait for the military to come and take care of them. Their fight made a lot of noises, so people should have already noticed it and notified the soldiers.

In the meaning time, she couldn't help but feel she was a little dumb. Since none of them had any abilities, she could as well imprison them right from the beginning. All of this could have been bypassed, and the little girl would still be fine.

"Well, life's a learning experience...", she marveled.

After another 5 minutes, a car with 4 soldiers pulled up by them. Seeing the 4 knocked out men, they couldn't help but turn more serious, their eyes showing cautiousness.

"What happened here? Why are they unconscious?!"

"They are simply a bunch of cowards! Trying to kidnap people and sell them off for food, I simply helped you take care of trash!", sharply answered Chu Lixue, being a little angered, since in the soldier's tone she could clearly hear the wish to blame her for this incident.

"What did you say? You...", he wanted to continue, but was stopped by another, older man, that was probably in his middle fifties. Probably his leader, or someone from the base's higher ups.

"Can you tell me what happened here, miss?"

Seeing that his attitude was much better than the previous soldier's, she slowly began to talk, "Nothing much. I simply saw them trying to catch the little girl for no reason, so when I've got closer, I clearly heard them talking about selling her here and there.

Since the little ones are our future generation, I couldn't just let them harm her. When I told them to piss off, they took out weapons and tried to kill me. I just took care of them and you guys came.

Also, nothing happened to them. Maybe some broken bones, but they're just knocked out."

Hearing what she has said, the older soldier looked at the ground around them. Then, after letting the soldiers check the groups vitals, seeing that what she said was truthful, he decided to let it go.

"Alright, I'll take care of them. Is everything alright with that little missy? If she needs some medical attention, I can help you.", he added.

Chu Lixue hesitated a bit, but after looking at the sight of the unconscious girl in her arms, she decided to let them check her.

"Alright, I'll trouble you to check if everything is fine with her."

Since their car was full, she quickly went to get her own car and moved her inside, together with her dog. Following closely after the military's car, she somehow ended up inside a closed-off section of the base, inside a military hospital, currently being used only for influential people.

After the old gentleman talked a bit with an incoming doctor, he excused himself and left. Just when she was feeling a little unsecure, the doctor turned towards them, and said, "You don't need to be scared, miss. I don't know what's your connection to the old man, but he told me to take care of the two of you. Follow me."

After going inside his doctor's office, the doctor wanted to check if she had any injuries. During her previous fight she was scr.a.p.ed a little by a knife, but being scared that he would notice the difference of her body, she refused.

"Alright, if you don't want to, then I'm not going to force you. Let me take a look at the little miss."

After another 10 minutes, with the help of a female nurse, all the checks were done. Looking at the results, he couldn't help but ask, "What's your relation to the child?"

Hesitation could be seen in her eyes for a second, but after a moment, it disappeared.

"She's my daughter. I've decided to adopt her."

"Adopt her, huh? Well, that's none of my business. The child is obviously malnourished, probably didn't have food for a long time. It's quite a surprise she could preserve alone for such a long time in Apocalypse. She simply needs to eat more and everything will be fine. But do take care not to let her too much right from the beginning, since that wouldn't be good either."

"Then why is she unconscious? It can't be that she was so hungry that she passed out?"

The doctor looked a little uncertain, but still said, "I think she used up too much of her energy? I haven't really seen any other child ability users, but I can't feel much energy inside her right now. My guess would be that under a stressful encounter she overused her ability, and dried out her energy. Let her sleep and when enough of her energy recovers, she should wake up..."
