Chapter 17: Not an Easy Person to Deal With (Part 1)

Cheng Yu felt a suffocating sensation, her face turning as black as coal. "You..."

That stubborn girl, she was determined to deal with her.

Gu Qingning lost interest in wasting her breath with them and turned her cold gaze towards Aunt Lin. "Where is my school bag? Bring it here."

With Cheng Yu present, Aunt Lin regained some confidence and spoke in a strange tone, "Miss Qingning, I'm sorry. You injured my leg just now, and it's painful to walk up and down the stairs. I can't fetch your school bag for you."

Gu Qingning sneered, "So that's why you jumped down from upstairs just now?"

Aunt Lin was left speechless.

"Wan, go and bring the bag that Qingning wants," Gu Zhao commanded.

The butler didn't dare to offend him and said, "Yes, I'll go now."

In the moment he turned around, he saw Cheng Yu's displeased gaze. With a forced smile, he reluctantly went upstairs.

Cheng Yu clenched her fists and asked in an aggressive manner, "Ah Zhao, let's talk straight. How do you plan to handle the jewelry and the injured guard?"

"Aunt Cheng, I respect you as an elder. The reasons for the events that happened today, I believe you are well aware of. It's pointless for us to tear our faces apart. There's no need to disturb father and the others when they return in a few days. I think it would be better to settle the matter peacefully, don't you think?" Gu Zhao calmly replied.

"father and the others have a lot of important matters to attend to. It would be difficult for you to explain if the family is in turmoil because of these small matters," he continued.

Cheng Yu's face turned grim, wanting to retort, but before she could speak, Gu Zhao interrupted with a smile, "Aunt Cheng, I think we should consider today's events as a major incident and resolve it peacefully. What do you think?"

Although it sounded like a question, there was no intention of negotiating.

Gu Qingning tilted her head slightly, observing her third brother with a direct gaze.

He appeared amiable, but in reality, he was not an easy person to deal with.

Cheng Yu clenched her fists tightly, feeling her anger rise. However, she could only swallow her pride and blood.

She forced a smile and spoke softly, "I was also angry just now, and my words were a bit impulsive. Ah Zhao, please don't take it to heart. You're right, we are all family, and there's no need to make things unpleasant over a few pieces of jewelry."

"Once father and the others return, they will be busy with many important matters. It's better not to disturb them with these trivial issues. Let's just settle the matter here."

At that moment, the housekeeper came downstairs with the school bag in his hands.

The white bag had become a little dirty and worn, losing its pristine appearance.

"Miss Qingning, here's your school bag," the butler said, handing it over with a flickering gaze, revealing a trace of guilt.

Gu Qingning reached out and took the bag, slinging it over her shoulder without a hint of attachment. She turned and walked away.

Seeing this, Gu Zhao immediately stood up and followed her outside.

Once the two siblings left, Cheng Yu couldn't bear to stay any longer. She picked up the remaining jewelry from the table and angrily stormed upstairs.

"Madam."

Aunt Lin followed closely behind, completely forgetting about her earlier claims of aching legs.

Once they entered the bedroom, Cheng Yu couldn't contain her anger anymore and swept everything off the dressing table.

She was furious.

"Madam, why did you back down so easily? You let that Gu Qingning leave so easily?" Aunt Lin protested.

Cheng Yu sat on the sofa, her expression dark. "That little bastard Gu Zhao went so far as to threaten me. What else could I do?"

It was all because she had only given birth to a daughter, and Grandfather held the three brothers from the Gu family in high regard. If Gu Zhao went to Grandfather and complained, he would surely take his side. At that time, she would end up pleasing neither side and ruin the image she had worked hard to maintain all these years.

Calming down, she advised, "Don't touch the room on the third floor for now, and be careful with your words and actions in the future. Don't give Gu Qingning any handle to use against us."

Aunt Lin nodded, "I understand."
