Chris delved deep into his memories to find the answer to the question he liked to hear the most. But wants to run away at the same time.

The question that every fucking gambler fears. Did their gamble pay off?

Holding his breath, Chris dived into his mind and remembered the memory he nearly died for.

And he must say…

It was fucking worth it!

Never in his whole life has Chris ever felt this happy… uhh, maybe he over-exaggerated. However, the truth doesn't change that he felt giddy.

His ear to ear smile was showing that clearly.

He had gained every skill of The Royal Butler! The gamble had paid off!!!

Like a drunk gambling addict, Chris cheered excitedly, nearly even forgetting the nasty headache that was eating him from the inside.

But, his excitement was suddenly interrupted by another popping system message.

[ Host has unlocked an Ego Remnant of The Royal Butler, Alfred Dollarworth.

Congratulations! ]

Chris smiled after seeing the system message. He had no idea what an ego remnant was. But considering the boons he just gained from it, and the congratulations by the system, it couldn't be a bad thing… right?

[ BEEEP! WARNING! ]

'I really had to put up a red flag…' Chris sighed deeply, glaring at the warning.

[ Note! Ego Remnant type- Pride.

Beep! Host and ego are not compatible!

Inner clash warning! ]

As soon as Chris read the last sentence… he did nothing.

His body suddenly got lifeless as he fell aside on the bed like a broken rag doll. His hands and body fallen at uncomfortable position while even his heart stopped beating.

The maid who was standing a little far from the bed panicked after seeing Chris's current condition.

He ran out of the room shouting and screaming as if she had just seen the scariest nightmare of her life.

But Chris didn't know any of it as he opened his eyes somewhere else.

However, the moment he opened his eyes, his unbeating heart skipped a beat, his eyes widened and he unconsciously stepped back.

The sky was clear with warm sunshine embracing his tired body. His feets encompassed gently by shallow still waters that barely reached his knees.

He looked at the sky, two bright suns hanging overhead. This scene… this was just like what he had seen… when he had met that mysterious ghastly devil.

He shakily turned his head like a creaking old door. Looking behind him in dread of finding the same stupid and fearsome devilish cloud.

But no matter how much he looked, there were no signs of the beast.

He surely didn't find that beast, but he did find something else. Or rather, someone else.

It was an old man. His white hairs shining in bright sunlight as his old handsome face looked at Chris blankly.

This man… he was Alfred… the royal butler…

Chris shivered seeing Alfred's dead lifeless eyes that stared right into Chris's bright hazel eyes.

[Ego's are incompatible. The decision making is impossible. The both ego's are requested to fight.

The winner shall either absorb, or disintegrate the losing ego.]

The system's screen popped up in front of Chris as he looked on it and shivered again.

Fight? That monster? BULLSHIT!

Luckily, there was another screen to go through from.

[Ego Alfred Dollarsworth is deceased.

Ego type: remnant

The ego is severely weakened.

Ego: Pride ]

Seeing the 'severely weakened' screen, Chris was very relieved! He had just gotten Alfred's supreme fighting skills, he had quite a big chance of winnin-

[Ego Christopher Swarts has already absorbed the remnant.

Remnant energy is currently locked.

Usage of Remnant's skills is prohibited.]

'...' Chris looked blankly at the system panel. Usage of skills is prohibited?!

Wait, how will they even determine if he is using the remnant's skills or not?

However, before Chris can ponder further on this thought, a loud beep echoed in the calm lake.

The moment the sound of beep filled Alfred's ears, his feets moved, kicking the sand beneath the waters, he quickly ran towards Chris in the speed that should be impossible for an old man such as Alfred.

Chris remembered that Alfred's current look was same as that of when he died at the age of 114. How he managed to stay alive to the great age of 114, Chris had no idea.

But all he knew was, Alfred was supremely talented and the only reason he died was for his loyalty.

'Phew' Chris sucked in a deep breath, due to water being filled in the floor, Alfred's speed was reduced by a huge margin, giving Chris a lot of time to prepare a defence and think.

Alfred was running openly with no apparent moveset or technique. His torso was undefended as he moved his hands and legs to run towards Chris with all that he got.

Seeing Alfred's zombie like dead-ish body, Chris doubted that the monster like him will get tired by running even whole day in these waters.

So discarding the plan to tire him out, Chris glared at Alfred and got into the form he had learnt in younger age by one of his friend who used to take karate classes.

He had taught some easier moves and hooks to Chris as a timepass. And luckily, Chris still remembered those.

But… what good will that do? In front of an experience and seasoned fighter like Alfred, Chris's techniques were childs play.

It was like an adult fighting with a kid. Well… looking at the age difference… it was pretty accurate…

Anyways, Alfred was coming at full speed towards Chris who had taken a basic defensive form.

Chris gulped as Alfred reached him. He looked at Alfred fully focused on the upcoming fight, however… the fight he was expecting didn't happen.

Alfred neither threw a punch nor kicked Chris directly.

Instead, his feets that were submerged in water shot above, splashing some warm water on Chris's face as his basic newbie defence fell apart.

He used his hands to defend the splash of harmless water as he thought it was some attack. Alas, it wasn't.

Alfred grabbed Chris's arms, bending and twisting them at impossible angles as a crisp bone breaking sound echoed in the peaceful waters.

Disturbing the calm and serene silence.

Chris's piercing scream filled the area but Alfred didn't even bother to pay any attention to it. He turned Chris's body around and brutally kicked Chris's back.

Another bone crack with piercing screams filled the air as Chris's spine was broken by Alfred.

Alfred threw Chris's limping body down, crushing his legs below his feets.

Just a few moments had passed since the moment Alfred had reached Chris. However, Chris was already lying flat defeated on the ground.

His bones were broken while his body was pressed on the ground under Alfred's legs.

Alfred looked blankly at Chris's lying body with his dead eyes. No emotion in his emotion less eyes as he moved his legs and pressed Chris's face further into the ground, submerging it in the water.

Chris twisted and turned, flailing his arms and struggling to push himself to somehow save his life.

He thought there was no hope but, he forgot one simple fact. He was much stronger than Alfred. His hands in futile resistance, pressed against the sandy ground and threw Alfred off the balance.

"Ugh!" Chris groaned his pain, the stinging pain generating from his creaking broken bones as he pulled himself up.

One thing he noticed was that his body was healing much faster. His healing powers had already multiplied by many times when he had awakened. However, now, it was simply impossible.

His broken bones were already beginning to heal as he pulled himself up.

With another groan of pain, Chris turned his face and gave a strong kick at Alfred's guts, making him fly away for a good dozen metres.

Due to the sudden burst of strength and running adrenaline, Chris took a deep breath and glared at Alfred's limping body. His tired and broken body now filled with new sense of strength as he looked at Alfred.

He ran ahead despite the strong resistance against water, his hands curled in a strong fist.

Alfred looked at Chris's approaching body and shifted his body in a casual defense, looking at him with a dead glare in his eyes.

"Die, you bastard!" Chris shouted in fury and punched ahead, alas, he had miscalculated gravely and his fist ended up losing most of its momentum before he reached Alfred.

But, when all hope seemed lost, Chris opened his hands and threw some sand into Alfred's eyes!
