The Talentless Inheritor

Chapter 91 - I Need A Doctor!

In the end, Sebastian couldn't find a trace of Gilbert. It had been far too long since he chased after the three men and in this darkness, it made it harder to find someone.

When Sebastian got home, it was already past the time for dinner. Clarice and Sana worriedly asked him about his whereabouts and he just said that he was in the library.

Sebastian didn't eat that night and he couldn't sleep either. It wasn't because he had killed people tonight, it was because of what Gilbert had bought.

"An aphrodisiac... That bastard is buying illegal goods and frequently too?"

Sebastian didn't want to know what he was going to use them for, but he couldn't just act like none of it happened.

The ones that he had bought the illegal goods from told him that he was a regular customer and it wasn't just aphrodisiacs, he bought many others too.

The only thing different about today's order is the quantity. Gilbert typically ordered a vial or two but today, he ordered three bottles. It was more than thirty times the usual amount.

Of course, it wasn't as if everyone was innocent. Many people bought illegal goods. Heck, Sebastian was even in an illegal organization. Maybe it's because Gilbert is the one who dwelled in this that he's disturbed.

Sebastian shook his head and decided to sleep. He would find out the reason behind his purchase eventually.

...

"Young master!"

In the middle of his sleep, Sebastian awakened to some noises. With the urgency of the voice, Sebastian leaped off his bed and held the spear in his hands as he ran out of the door.

"What is it?!"

Sebastian stopped at Clarice's door and his eyes widened in shock.

"Young master, the missus is going into labor! Her water already broke and she realized it too late!"

"Mother!"

Sebastian threw the spear at the side of the room and immediately ran to Clarice's side and held her hand. Sana was moving all over the place in restlessness.

"I-I'm okay..."

After hearing Clarice try to fake her condition, Sebastian gripped her hand tighter. She was pale and looked to be in great pain. She wouldn't last going to the hospital.

"Did you call the doctor already?"

Sebastian turned his head to ask Martha.

Jonathan had hired a doctor to stay near the estate if Clarice were to have an emergency.

"The doctor went off to buy medicine for the missus a couple of hours ago. They should be heading back and Baritos had just left to tell them to hurry..."

"That means the doctor won't be here for at least another half an hour..."

Sebastian grit his teeth.

"Miss Martha, take care of mother, I'll be back soon."

"Okay..."

He was going to find a doctor, that's what Martha realized and let him go. Together with Sana, she took care of Clarice and prepared the necessary items for a delivery.

Sebastian quickly ran outside the estate and its property and jumped up a nearby building before looking around.

"The nearest clinic is... damn."

Sebastian muttered a curse as he looked at the clinic in the distance. He tried to look for other clinics that were nearer but he couldn't see anything else.

With his destination decided, Sebastian used the stigma's energy and leaped. It was a leap that humans wouldn't be able to do even if they trained their whole lives. He had jumped at least forty feet.

But, he didn't hesitate.

He continued leaping one roof after another and sometimes even using wind to offset his falls. He would arrive at the clinic in five minutes and he would take a bit more than that to get back.

During that time, many would spot him. He didn't wear his mask but he didn't care.

Sebastian continued to use fire to boost his jumps and wind to lessen the impact of his falls. He soon arrived at the clinic.

"I need a doctor! My mother is in labor!"

He ignored the surprised eyes of the other patients and immediately came up to talk to the lady on the front desk.

"Where is the patient?"

"She isn't in a condition to move, I need a doctor to come with me."

"Mmm..."

The lady made a complicated expression.

"All of our doctors are too busy so having a home visit would be..."

"Please! She won't be able to come here and her water already broke."

"Even if you say that, there's just nothing I can do..."

"I'll do it."

Sebastian and the lady turned their eyes towards a woman in a coat.

"Doctor Nightingale!"

'A woman?'

Sebastian was surprised. While it wasn't illegal for a woman to become a doctor, there hadn't been any. Nevertheless, he had no time to dawdle. He had to bring Nightingale over to his mother.

"Can we go now?"

"Sure."

Nightingale followed him without asking many questions. The lady on the front desk was dumbfounded as the two of them left.

"Where's your carriage?"

"..."

Sebastian blinked twice.

"How in the world did you get here then?"

Nightingale looked at him with a raised brow.

"I... uh..."

"Haa... Forget it, let's start running."

Sebastian closed his eyes.

"Can you promise not to tell anyone what I'm about to do?"

"Hm? You have a way?"

"Please swear. On the House of Sol's name."

"Hooh... So you must be Sebastian Sol? Well, I don't mind. I swear that I will not tell anyone of what you're about to do. If I break this vow, my life will be offered to the House of Sol. Is that alright?"

"Yes, thank you. Please get on."

"..."

Nightingale looked at Sebastian like she was looking at a rare animal.

"Get on... As in, you'll be carrying me?"

"Yes."

"..."

Being in such close contact with another woman who isn't his family or fiancée was grounds for a scandal.

Nightingale sighed and allowed herself to be carried. The patient's life mattered more than anything right now.

Sebastian firmly held onto Nightingale and jumped.

"?!"

Nightingale's eyes widened. Without even using flames, he leaped that high?

Though it wasn't enough to reach the top of the building, Sebastian used a ledge as leverage and reached the roof in two jumps.

"Interesting."

Nightingale looked at Sebastian in a different light as he carried her to Clarice's estate. Luckily, it was already night and though a few noticed their silhouettes, none actually saw them.

If Sebastian were alone, he would be able to propel himself using flames though it would be less efficient than strengthening his body but he couldn't do so since Nightingale was with him.

He would be able to withstand the heat but could she?

They soon arrived at the estate and Nightingale didn't speak another world until they got to Clarice.

"...You made the right choice by getting a doctor on your own. Prepare what I'm going to ask for."

"We have most of it here already."

Martha informed Nightingale and showed a pail of hot water, towels, and a few other things.

"We don't have anything for anesthesia, she might die of shock."

Nightingale looked at how pale and sickly Clarice looked and commented.

"We have a healer!"

"A healer? Here?"

Nightingale looked around but other than her, only Sebastian, Martha, and Sana were in the room. She wouldn't suspect the latter two because of their age and occupation. It was only natural.

"Yes, she has the ability to heal."

Sebastian held Sana's shoulders and asked.

"Sana, can you help us?"

"I... I'll try!"

"Thank you."

Sebastian embraced Sana before looking at Nightingale and nodding.

"Alright, let's get started."

...

"Clarice!"

"Lord Sol, please don't be so loud. The patient is still recovering."

"...you're the doctor, Florence Nightingale."

"Nurse. I'm not qualified to be a doctor."

"Not qualified? Just because you hadn't gone to medical school to become a doctor but as a nurse? If you aren't qualified, then aren't most of the doctors on the continent unqualified?"

"That's how I see it."

"..."

Jonathan looked at Nightingale who was nonchalantly eating some snacks on the sofa.

"Anyway, the patient is fine. Though there were some troubles, the presence of a healer helped her through them. Your son should be watching over them right now."

"Master!"

Martha stepped out of Clarice's room and saw Jonathan. She quickly ran downstairs and bowed.

"I'm sorry for greeting you late."

"It's fine, you should go rest."

Jonathan brushed off her greeting and quickly walked up the stairs in a hurry. He had heard news of her having to deliver the baby without his hired doctor just half an hour ago.

After punishing his hired doctor, he immediately set off to meet Clarice.

"Father."

Sebastian turned to the door and saw Jonathan whose breath was ragged. He must've ran here judging by the sweat.

"How's your mother?"

Though he had heard it from Nightingale, he asked anyway.

"She's fine but fatigued. She fell asleep immediately after seeing the baby."

Jonathan approached the bedside with light steps. The baby was in Sebastian's arms as Clarice slept.

"It's a boy."

"I see."

Jonathan sat down on a chair by the bed and stared at Clarice.

"Do you want to hold him?"

"..."

Sebastian had a good grasp of his father's personality by now. He was an excellent house head and an Inheritor but he was poor when it came to relationsh.i.p.s.

With the exception of Clarice, he hadn't seen him show his emotions so openly. He must've seemed cold to his children, but to Sebastian, he was just awkward.

With his first marriage being a political marriage, there wasn't any love but Clarice was different. He married her even if he already had a wife. She wasn't even a noble, she just came from a wealthy family.

"Yes."

Jonathan finally managed to let out the words he wanted to say. Sebastian walked over to his side and handed him his little brother.

"I'll go out for a bit."

"Alright."

Sebastian left the room and didn't forget to glance at Jonathan as he left. He was staring at the baby nestled in his arms as he stroked Clarice's cheek.

A few hours later, it became morning. Amy arrived and quickly went to check on Clarice and the baby.

"He's so cute!"

"Fufu.. Thank you."

"Have you decided on a name for him yet?"

"Truthfully, no."

Clarice gave Amy a wry smile as she answered. She fussed over Sebastian's name before he was born but she somehow forgot to make a list of names for her second son.

"I'm going to talk with Jonathan and Sebastian in the future to see what they want to name him."

"Ehh..."

Amy laughed along with Clarice for a while before she stepped out of the room.

"Sebastian, father told me that you don't need to come today."

"I see, thanks."

"It's nothing. That aside, want to go on a date later?"

"Sure. What time?"

"Hmmm... Afternoon, maybe around five."

"So late?"

"It's fine! Oh, be sure to bring your spear, there have been reports of suspicious individuals lately."

"Alright."

Sebastian agreed without much thought. He didn't realize that even without him or his spear, Amy could still deal with most of the threats that could endanger them.

Amy flashed Sebastian a mischievous smile as she giggled.
