The Talentless Inheritor

Chapter 83 - To Be The Lightning Spear's Successor

Dawn of the appointed day.

Around three hours were left until classes started. Sebastian wanted to say his farewells to the class before submerging himself in training and to do that, he honed his mastery of Death Throes and lightning.

"Two hours. That's how long I estimate that you have to take to run from here to the academy."

"That means I have around an hour to hit you if I were to make it in time."

"Exactly."

Mile chuckled and brandished her spear.

"I won't be holding back as much as before."

"Wouldn't have it any other way, Master."

Sebastian mirrored her movements.

Mile dashed forward. Unlike their previous clashes, she initiated combat first.

"Huff—"

Sebastian inhaled sharply and swung his spear downwards. Mile had swung her spear horizontally and the best way to counter it was by going another direction.

Lightning crackled around Sebastian's body and his spear instantaneously traveled back up.

"Ooh~"

Mile was surprised but still managed to block Sebastian in time.

Lightning Spear—or more specifically, Lightning God, followed a simple concept. Speed and power. Just power or speed alone were meaningless, the style incorporated both of them in a beautiful fusion.

The reason it was so hard to learn without lightning is because of the swiftness.

Mile could change the trajectory of her attacks without losing any speed or power using her element. That's why the Lightning God was unparalleled.

Sebastian had finally learned how to move his body using lightning.

'If it's now, he could master Death Throes!'

The reason why Sebastian couldn't do it before was because he was moving like a human, albeit an overpowered one, a human nonetheless. Mile moved as swift as lightning when switching between the four stances of Death Throes, that was how she could use the power so explosively.

"Death Throes."

Mile was the one to use the technique first. It wasn't that she was losing in their clash, she just wanted to see how Sebastian would react. Though, she probably knew already.

"Death Throes."

As expected.

BOOM BOOM

Two explosions of sound and air overlapped one another.

"Amazing."

Mile commented while looking into Sebastian's eyes.

The two of them were in a deadlock. Sebastian and Mile's spears held the other in place. However, the power behind their attacks hadn't disappeared yet.

"...!"

The two of them were still in the middle of using Death Throes. Whoever had their thrust depleted first would be struck by the other's.

The lightning surrounding the two of them began increasing in intensity. The grass and trees that were hit had scorch marks left behind.

Just as Sebastian's thrust began disappearing, all of the pressure from Mile's spear disappeared. Sebastian's eyes widened and he quickly took the opportunity.

"Death Throes!"

Sebastian thrust his spear straight at Mile.

"Heh."

"?!"

Just as Sebastian thought she wouldn't be able to dodge, Mile smirked and twisted her body then countered with the body of her spear and sent Sebastian flying.

"Though your reaction time really was worthy of praise, you forgot about your opponent. Though it may not be the case in a real battle, you know your opponent at the moment, don't you? You should know that I would never lose in a direct confrontation with the skill I had taught."

Sebastian stood up and wiped away some of the blood on his lips.

"And you should know who your opponent is too."

Bzzt

Mile heard it. It was faint, but she had heard it. The sound of lightning and it was coming from—

"Beneath me!"

Mile rolled to the side and barely managed to avoid the pillar of lightning emerging from the floor. It went against what lightning normally did, but it didn't matter to Inheritors, they were born to destroy common sense.

"Death Throes!"

Sebastian appeared right beside Mile and used the technique once more. Even if she were to use lightning, it would be near impossible to avoid his attack.

'That's why, you only have one choice!'

Mile raised her spear to block.

"...!"

Mile's eyes were wide open as she saw Sebastian. The spear that he had held earlier disappeared.

'Where is it?!'

Mile's eyes quickly darted around until a faint shadow loomed over her head.

"From above!"

Mile fired a blast of electricity to fling the spear away and swung her spear at Sebastian.

Her spear struck, but he hadn't fallen.

Sebastian smirked.

Mile quickly retreated.

"Too late!"

Sebastian took a step forward even though his body hurt like hell. He reached out with his hands in a grasping motion in front of mile.

BZZZZZZZT

A spear made of lightning manifested in Sebastian's hands.

When he had become crazed with anger, he could still remember some things. The fire spear was one of them. It was made of flames but he could grasp it just well as a normal spear.

Sebastian knew it wasn't normal—not for one of the elements. Light and darkness could manifest weapons made of their elements but save for earth, the three basic elements couldn't do the same as they lacked a solid form.

Lightning was the same.

It lacked a solid form, but Sebastian felt it when he touched the fire spear. The elements were more versatile than he had thought.

'It's my win...!'

Just as his spear was about to hit Mile, her lips parted.

"Lightning God, 2nd Form..."

Sebastian's eyes trembled. The world seemed to slow down around Mile, he was no exception.

'No, the world didn't slow down, she's just too fast!'

Mile's spear slashed down but Sebastian couldn't feel anything.

"Thunderclap."

Just as the words left her mouth, an explosion made from lightning and thunder erupted right in front of Sebastian, in the arc that Mile had made.

ROOOOOAAAAAAAARRRRR

"AGH!"

Sebastian g.r.o.a.n.e.d and broke through several trees with just the power of that hit alone.

"Ah... Oops."

Mile awkwardly scratched the back of her head as she walked towards Sebastian.

...

"..."

"Umm... I'm sorry."

Sebastian could roughly guess the situation by the sight he was seeing. The sun hadn't reached the very middle of the sky, but it was close.

"When I was about to get hit, my instincts kicked in and I accidentally attacked back."

Mile had said that she would hold back but unintentionally used more of her power than she wanted to. Even among the country's finest, only a few would be able to react to such a speed. Expecting an Apprentice to see through it was foolish.

"Mmm..."

Sebastian had no words to offer. He was sleeping under the shade of a tree while Mile sat his side.

"I'll probably make it in time for the last class, can I go?"

"By all means..."

Though he didn't technically land a hit on her, Mile was the one who went back on her promise first.

Sebastian stood up and after giving Mile his farewells, he ran.

...

"That was refreshing."

Sebastian wiped the sweat on his forehead with a towel. He hadn't gone running like that for a while.

Sebastian changed and took several things from the mansion then began running to the academy. They should be having the last class and he wouldn't make it if he had to wait for the carriage to be prepared so he set off.

'Amy brought Sana to the school, I guess I'll drop by before heading back.'

Sebastian used his power to run. Only a few townspeople had seen him and even among them, an even fewer number managed to make him out as a person. The others only saw shadows.

"Hm? Lord Sol!"

The professor looked at the door and saw Sebastian waving.

"I was told that you weren't going to attend classes anymore."

"Nn. I've just come to say my farewells. I was just occupied until now..."

"Well, I'll give you some of my time, I'm just about done anyway."

The professor welcomed Sebastian in.

"Ehem... As we all know, Lord Sol's time as an exchange student here lasts for two months. However, his time is really only a month and a half, he's here today to say all he has to say to everyone."

Sebastian walked in front after the professor's cue.

"I'm not really one for words so excuse me for making this short. Although we've known each other for less than two months, I can assure you all that I will remember everyone. Thank you for having me."

The students clapped. Some of them looked teary while some looked conflicted. Elliot and Maria were in the former and latter respectively.

"I'd like to treat everyone to a meal after this, whoever wants to attend can come after classes."

""OOOOH!""

Everyone here is an Inheritor so they should have a sizable amount of money. If Sebastian said he was treating them, then it would obviously be somewhere that they normally wouldn't be able to access so easily.

"I'll be waiting by the gates after classes, those who want to attend can just go there. You can also bring your friends."

Sebastian left the room after receiving everyone's praise and cheers. He headed straight to Amy's class. When he saw that their lessons were still ongoing, he waited outside.

Amy spotted him just as their class ended and he told her about what he wanted to do.

"A farewell party, I guess it's alright. I'll throw one for my class on my last day too."

"Shall we, madam?"

"Hahaha! What's with that strange way of talking?"

Perhaps it was because Amy hadn't seen him for a couple of days, she felt her mood lighten.

"Sana, let's go."

Sebastian held out his hand. Sana happily took it and then reached her other hand out to Amy.

"Fufu..."

Amy smiled and took Sana's hand. When together like this, they really looked like a family, if not for their age. It made Amy happy.

The three of them walked to the gate and waited for Sebastian's classmates there.

"Is everyone here?"

"Yeah."

Elliot was the one to answer. He and Maria had taken the initiative to organize the class and the participants seeing as how they were the ones closest to Sebastian during his stay here.

After being informed of their destination, the students giddily set off in their own carriages.

"Wow, he actually has enough money to rent this place?"

"...do you think he's going to take a mistress?"

"Please. Look at his eyes when he looks at the other exchange student, I doubt he would accept anyone even if they threw themselves at him."

Sebastian took them to one of the most high class restaurants in the country, and the most popular in the city.

"Sebastian, how did you manage to get reservations for this place?"

Elliot looked at him strangely.

Normally, even a normal reservation would have one wait for a few months but Sebastian rented out an entire floor. There were only seven floors here and each one could hold more than two hundred at once.

To rent out an entire floor would cost an astronomical sum. At the very least, Elliot couldn't even dream of renting it even after twenty years.

Sebastian laughed and told him not to mind it.

"Sebastian..."

Amy whispered from beside him. They were already seated and the food was a buffet. They could take as much as they want and bring it to their tables.

"How exactly did you manage to reserve this?"

Even Amy as the future head of a house would have trouble.

"Mm..."

Sebastian took a bite of the steak in front of him then wiped his mouth with a napkin.

"It's a secret."

Amy pouted at Sebastian but he turned his head away and pretended not to notice.

'I've definitely got to be the Lightning Spear's successor!'

Sebastian swore to himself. When he had been knocked out earlier, Mile apologized by giving him her badge from the kingdom.

He just had to show it to the restaurant's owner under Mile's instruction and he was given access to a floor immediately.

Maria, Elliot, Sana, Amy, and the others in their table looked at him with odd expressions. Sebastian was oblivious to their gazes and continued to bask in his master's glory.
