The Story You Don't Know

Chapter 25 - Half-decent demon

27 May 2016, Friday

School camp is tomorrow and I can't wait. I feel kind of bittersweet that it will be my first and last. Come to think of it, this is my last year of high school.

I've spent more than half my school life being depressed. And it's already the end of May. I have just about half a year of school left before it all ends.

And with this thought comes a sense of urgency. I feel like I shouldn't leave school sad. I want to leave with happy memories to look back on, so the last of my teenage years won't be a dark sunless world.

I suppose things have been turning out for the better recently. With Isabelle around, I'm always laughing, there's always something fun to do. And with her around, Amelia doesn't tease me as much. Isabelle seems to intimidate her, for some reason.

I guess we've all been sort of getting along since I officially introduced Isabelle to them today. I wouldn't say they hit it off the way Isabelle and I did, but at least it makes things less awkward, especially since the time Isabelle.

It's 1am now, technically it's Saturday already. I just finished last minute packing for tomorrow. I'm going to miss Kalen. I made him promise not to appear around school. I don't want anyone seeing him, or worse, not seeing him but catching me talking to myself.

I wouldn't know what or how to feel. Because that would mean I'm either hallucinating, or I'm mad, or he's a ghost of some sort or- I don't even want to think of it.

Everything feels surreal now. If I close my eyes now, I can still feel the warmth of his touch, the cool air of his breathing fanning my skin, the way his lips mould themselves to mine, the way he makes my heart race.

I don't want to think that all this is a lie, or that one day I'd lose all this. It feels too real to be a figment of my imagination.

It's strange how he went from a stranger in my bedroom to someone who means so much to me. Please don't let me lose him.

My thoughts seem to be everywhere tonight. I'm going to pen off for now and hope to get a good night's sleep. Hope the camp goes well~

"Have you heard news from the Keeper?"

"No."

Arakiel smirked. "I told you he has something to hide. He cloaks the girl from your Sight."

Gaia narrowed her eyes. "Track her down for me."

"Already have. The shadow amulet hides her well, but not well enough to evade the best tracker you can find." He flashed her a grin.

"Show me her location. We must capture her at once. My patience dwindles."

"Ah, but I'm not done yet." He leaned in close to her, red eyes flashing,

"What do you want?" Gaia asked warily as he advanced upon her.

He flashed her a fanged smile. "You know what I want." An experienced hand slid itself around her waist, pulling her close to him in a sudden smooth move.

She braced herself against his c.h.e.s.t with her hands as her breath caught and she flushed, her body betraying her. "No," she gritted her teeth.

"No?" He breathed, cold air blowing her neck, almost like a gentle c.a.r.e.s.s. Gaia let out a sharp gasp as she felt his teeth graze the soft skin just behind her ear. She felt her eyes narrow into slits as his hands roamed her skin, tracing hot lines up her back, on her stomach, down her neck to her collarbone, eliciting a soft involuntary m.o.a.n of p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e from her.

And then he stopped. Gaia opened her eyes and stared at him in confusion. "Why did you stop?"

Blood red eyes curved up into a smirk as the demon seemed to assess her. "I won't take you until you let me." He shrugged. "I kept my end of the contract. Still waiting for you to keep yours."

"But why?" The brand on her neck throbbed in response, a reminder of her end of the deal.

Another shrug. "Maybe some demons are half decent?" Fangs flashed in a smirk. Did she hear a tint of cynicism in his tone? It made her wonder what he wasn't letting on.

"Anyway, I'm off. See you when I see you. Oh and. Let me know when you have the girl. There's something I need her for as well. Ciao." And with a wave of his arm, he disappeared, leaving her alone in a chamber that suddenly felt cold and too big.

Why did he spare her? What did he mean? Was he actually being nice, or would he come back to claim a favor from that? Why did he make her heart beat so fast in her c.h.e.s.t? It was a mixture of very new and confusing feelings for her.

She pulled up her knees and wrapped her arms around herself, deep in thought.
