The Rebirth Of Feng Xi

Feng Xi laid in bed with no signs of waking up anytime soon. Prince Jin stayed by her side the entire time watching over her. His heart ached to see her in this condition. He even had the nurses teach him how to take care of her so that she would be as comfortable as possible. Prince Jin held her delicate small hand in his. Feng Xi had third degree burns from her head all the way down the back of her legs. Only her front, her lower arms, and her face were unharmed. 

Day after day passed and a week went by. It was on this day that Prince Jin who was in the middle of replacing her blanket with a fresh one when he saw Feng Xi stir.

"Jin'er! Ouch…!" Feng Xi woke up abruptly and tried to get up but was quickly hit with a jolt of pain.

"Xi'er! Nurse!" Prince Jin was quick to call in the nurse since Feng Xi had finally woken up. "Xi'er do you want anything?" 

"A glass of water… My throats dry." Feng Xi answered, her voice sounding hoarse. 

"I'll get it right away." Not wasting time, Prince Jin quickly went to get a glass of water while the nurse checked her vitals. 

When he came back he could hear the nurse speaking to Feng Xi. "Miss Feng, you are very lucky, Prince Jin loves you a lot. He has not left this room since you were transferred here from the operating room. He has taken care of all your needs." The nurse leaned in and whispered: "He even made sure to bath you." 

Feng Xi's face turned bright red. But at the same time, she was happy. The man she loved did not dump her on the side of the road even when she looked like a zombie from some horror movie. For this, she was truly happy. This act alone negated Prince Jin's busy hands. In order to not sound embarrassed, Feng Xi decided to downplay the situation. "He is the man I love. It's the least he can do when I can't move on my own." 

 "Haha! You are indeed cut from a different cloth. Most girls your age would be mad if their boyfriend personally gave them a sponge bath and declare that they marry them. Well, you are already engaged to his highness, but the way he did it so naturally… Have you two already..." The nurse's cheeks blushed. She couldn't even finish her sentence.

"No! We haven't and won't until we are married!" Feng Xi said firmly.

Seeing how serious she was being and answering without hesitation the nurse knew she wasn't lying. But from what she heard from within the palace the two seemed to be sleeping together at night. So this was quite surprising to learn. She was sure that the two had already crossed the line. She could now see that the cold hearted Prince Jin was only warm to this girl here. 

She remembered the first day she was here trying to take care of Feng Xi. Prince Jin came in and started yelling, killing intent was oozing out of his body. All because he thought he saw Feng Xi's brow furrow. It took Feng Shun speaking to him to calm him down and explain to him that he was just seeing things. Only then did he finally calm down. To have such a love in this world was rare. He truly loved this girl. 

Prince Jin heard that their conversation was over and walked in like he had not heard anything. "Xi'er, here's your water." Prince Jin held the glass that had a straw in it and positioned the straw to Feng Xi's lips. 

 Feng Xi smiled and sipped from the straw. "That's much better. Jin'er how long was I out for?"

Feng Xi did not get a chance to ask these questions from the nurse since the nurse was busy talking about how good Prince Jin was. 

"Today would have been a week. They kept you in a medically induced coma in order to give your wounds time to heal. It was the best way to allow your wounds to heal faster. Once you finish your skin grafts to get rid of the burns there will be one more final operation to allow you to grow your hair back. If all goes well you will get some stubbles on your head within the next six months." Prince Jin explained.

Feng Xi frowned. When she heard Prince Jin say 'if all goes well…' This was not a reassuring statement. But this also made her a bit nervous. If she had no hair, would Prince Jin still love her like before? Would he break up with her? She couldn't hold back her want to know, so she asked: "So if my hair does not grow back will Jin'er leave me?" 

"What silly things are you saying? Why would I leave you just because of some hair? If it turns out you can't grow your hair back then I will shave mine off as well! Then we will shave our kids' heads so we can be the bald family!" Prince Jin said in a righteous tone. 

Feng Xi couldn't help but laugh. As she gazed warmly at Prince Jin, she reached out with her hand and in a spoiled voice said: "Kiss me!"

Seeing Feng Xi pucker her, lips Prince Jin leaned over and kissed them. As their lips parted Prince Jin formed a serious expression on his face as he said: "Xi'er remember one thing. In this lifetime or any lifetime after that, you will always be my woman. I promise you here and now, that I will never leave you. Although we started somewhat quickly I fell for you the day you tossed me over your shoulder. I said it before I will hold the sky up if it falls. I plan to keep my promise. Right now I have your mercenary group and my people out searching for the ones who did this. I will personally bring them back and lock them up so you can deal with them when you are able to move. The sky might have fallen down hard this time and I almost lost the girl I love because of this but anyone who hurts you will not be let off easy. If you decide to let them go, I will probably end up killing them. Because my anger will not subside for those who hurt you unless they are dead." 

Feng Xi smiled hearing Prince Jin's words. She reached out slowly and clasped her hand with his. "I am a lucky woman. How many girls can say that they have such a loving and caring fiance? You treat me with such care and concern that I sometimes worry I might end up relying on you too much. At first, I was scared of being in a relationship. A relationship where I might end up losing the one I love if I opened my heart. But in such a short time you pushed every wall I built up down and smashed them with a hammer. 

"Your warmth began filling the void of my ice cold heart. Months later I can't even think of living my life without you. It seems silly really. Can love be measured with how much time you have spent with a person? Or is love something that can hit you instantly without even realizing it. To be honest I might have fallen for you the day you slept outside my car to protect me. I had just not realized it then. Jin'er thank you for being so good to me." 

"Isn't that a given?" Prince Jin said gently as he leaned in and kissed Feng Xi's lips once again.
