The Male Lead's Childhood Friend

Chapter 3 - Broken Engagement (1)

As expected, Jeremy came to our villa to visit me. After the pageant I didn't go to school for about a week because I lost the first place to Angelika. My parents gave an excuse that I caught the flu for my absence.

Of course Jeremy as well thought I was sick, I also didn't answer any of his calls during that whole week. What I didn't know was that whole week I was absent, Jeremy and Angelika got closer to each other. In that short time span I wasn't able to stop their relationship from forming and growing.

"Jeremy, you're here." I came down from the stairs and saw Jeremy coming in from the door.

"Ana, how are you doing?" Jeremy looked at me worriedly. He was holding a huge pink teddy bear and a bouquet of flowers.

Jeremy was still the same Jeremy I used to know. He was a loving and caring big brother to me. I didn't look at the bigger picture in the past and only took his love for granted. Looking at it now, his love and affection for me is what a big brother gives to his younger sister. I felt a pinch in my heart.

I took the bouquet of flowers from him and pulled out the card. It read 'Get well soon, Love Jeremy'.

"You don't need to get me these things you know. I am all well now." I said with a smile.

I remember getting these gifts even when I refused to meet him in my past life. I thought that these gifts were his way of showing his love for me. I never thought it was because he sees me as a little sister all along.

"These aren't much. I was worried about you when I heard you were sick." Jeremy looked at me tenderly. "You didn't even want me to visit you while you were sick."

My heart was beating fast like in the past. 'No Anastasia. Don't think that he loves you in a romantic way. His love for you is not like that.' I scold myself.

"I don't want you to get sick as well, I was contagious you know." I smiled bitterly. What I need to do now was lie.

"Let the maids take these gifts up to your room. I bought some of your favorite snacks. Let's go and eat." Jeremy said with a bright smile.

Jeremy handed his gifts to the maid and accompanied me to the living room. I saw my favorite blueberry cheesecake from The Bell's Bakeshop neatly places on top of the center table. I can also smell the fragrant aroma of my favorite jasmine tea.

'Jeremy really knows everything that I like.' I thought.

How can he not know? Since I was six and he was eight, the both of us have been playing with each other. We have become inseparable since then, and so the engagement between us was decided by our parents. Who would have known that Jeremy only seen me as his little sister. I can feel pain in my heart again but it is still bearable.

Jeremy and I started sat down facing each other. He cut a slice from the blueberry cheesecake and put it on my plate. He also poured some jasmine tea on my tea cup.

"You know I can do this by myself." I teased him.

"Let me spoil you. I didn't see you for the past week you know. I have missed you." Jeremy said with a smile and there was another pinch in my heart.

'Please don't be so good to me like this.' I thought. 'If you are not going to pick me then please don't be kind to me.' I was hurting with the kindness Jeremy is showing.

I picked up my spoon and took a bite from the cheesecake and a sip from my tea. I was really not in the mood to eat, even if these were my favorite.

"Don't you have an appetite?" Jeremy said with a worried tone. "I am sorry, I should have known that you are still recuperating and still don't have an appetite yet."

"Don't worry. I am not that hungry yet." I smiled to mask my inner emotions. "Jeremy, I know you came here to tell me something. And you also brought bribes for me."

I smiled bitterly. I knew that Jeremy bought me those things to appease me. He knows that I will be hysterical once I knew the relationship between him and Angelika.

"What are you talking about? Of course I bought all of that for you." Jeremy smiled awkwardly. "But you are right in one thing. I need to tell you something."

'Here it comes.' I thought to myself. I braced myself of what is to come.

"Ana, I think I fell in love with someone." Jeremy said awkwardly. "And well, I have started to date her."
