The Male Lead's Childhood Friend

Chapter 22 - Husband Search

"What is this commotion?!" Father roared.

"Dad!" I was thankful that he got here in time. "Jeremy and Shiki was about to start a fight."

"It's not my fault uncle. I saw this man just grabbed Ana by the shoulder and she was clearly not happy about it." Shiki defended. "I just came to help my cousin and fiancee to be."

"I dare you repeat that again!" Jeremy roared.

"What, that Ana is my fiancee to be?" Shiki was clearly irritating Jeremy on purpose. I can see him smirk in triumph.

"Why you...!" Jeremy was so angry that I can see his face all red. "Ana is my fiancee!"

I was surprised on what Jeremy had just said.

"WAS your fiancee." Shiki mocked. "You missed your chance when you fell in love with another woman and broke Ana's heart. Who are you to have a say on Ana's future?"

Shiki also held Jeremy by his collar. With the friction between this two, I am afraid that a fight would really break out.

'Shiki won't use his godly powers against Jeremy, right?' This was what I was worried about.

"Alright gentlemen, break it up." Father got in between the two men and broke them apart. "Cool your head for now, okay."

Jeremy and Shiki tidied up both theirs shirts but their stare towards each other were still icy.

"Thank you for picking up Ana and bringing her home Jeremy." Mother said. "We will take it from here."

"Any time aunty." Jeremy replied. "I would do anything for Ana." He smiled gently.

Jeremy walked towards his car's trunk and took out my luggage. But when he was half way towards me, Shiki blocked his way and took away my luggage from Jeremy's hands.

"I'll take it from here." Shiki said rather rudely.

"You..." Jeremy was about to retort when father came.

"Thank you Jeremy. Shiki will take it from here." Father said dismissively.

Jeremy was surprised with the cold treatment he got from my parents.

'Of course, what would you expect.' I thought. 'You broke the heart of their most precious daughter. Did you expect they will still treat you like before?' I scoffed.

"Uncle, I hope you give me a second chance." Jeremy said with a sad voice. "I would like to make it up to Ana."

"I am sorry Jeremy, that is not in my power to decide." Father replied. "That will be up to Ana."

"Is it true, what that guy said?" Jeremy asked father. "That he is Ana's fiancee to be?"

Father looked at Jeremy seriously. "What kind of relationship do you want to have with my daughter? If you want to mend your friendship with each other then I will not refuse, that is if you can let her accept your apology. But if you are intending on winning her heart, then you have to get in line."

"What do you mean?" Jeremy asked in curiosity.

"Anastasia is my one and only precious daughter. I thought back then that you were the perfect man to be her life partner and manage our business empires together. But after you broke of your engagement, I knew I have to make a meticulous selection for Ana's future husband." Father explained. "Shiki is a distant relative of ours. He is a worthy candidate. Of course there are also others that I will let Ana meet in the future. She will be the one to select who she wants to be with and the chosen one will be her fiance and the future husband to manage our business empire."

"W-What?!" I was shocked with what my father just said. " Mom, is what dad said true?" I looked at my mother questioningly.

"Your father and I talked about this. We thought that we will choose suitable suitors for you." Mother patted my shoulder. "Do not worry. You will still be the one to choose who you want to be with."

I was rather speechless. I never thought my parents will try to make a 'husband search'. I felt like I was 'The Bachelorette' in that old reality television series. But at least they didn't go forward to make an arrange marriage for me and let me be the one to choose. For us heirs of big companies, arrange marriages are inevitable.

"This is something big. Can we talk about this tomorrow? I am feeling a headache coming." I pinch my temples.

"It must be jet lag." Shiki said with a hint of worry. "Aunty, I will take Ana to her room with her luggage."

"Of course Shiki. Thank you." Mother said with a gentle smile.

I feel Shiki's arm encircle my waist. "I-I can wall by myself Shiki." I said startled.

"Don't act strong. I know you are tired ." Shiki said with a neutral face. My heart beat went fast while Shiki was escorting me.

I can't believe how good looking Shiki is even if he has that nonchalant face on. If other women saw him smile, I am sure they will faint.

"Retreat for the night Jeremy." I hear father said. "I will not hinder you in asking for forgiveness from my daughter. But bear in mind, she has her own future now. I hope you will let her find the man that is best for her."

"Uncle..." Jeremy had a sour face and signed. "I understand. I will retire for the night. But I want you to know that I have made my decision. I WILL BE GETTING ANA BACK!" His last sentence roared inside the hall way entrance.

I stopped and looked back at Jeremy staring at me with a serious look. It made my heart skip a beat.

"I guess he was threatened by me." Shiki said.

I glanced at Shiki who was still holding me by my waist protectively. He had a smirk on his face.

"After what he has done to you, do you think I will just let him get his way." Shiki said with a sinister smile that gave me chills. "I will surely love to see him try."

"S-Shiki... what are you planning?" I smiled in fright.
