Chapter 32

“Grand Duke.”

Juliana wet her dry lips with her tongue and called out to Louis.

She was lying in bed with a spring cold that she had never had even in winter. She was in this predicament because she fell into the water yesterday.

“What is it, Julie?”

The man’s dark pupils quietly looked at her. Juliana paused for a moment at the unfamiliar eyes. The color still felt alien to her.

Juliana hesitated for a moment and then opened her lips.

“…Can’t you stop doing that?”

“Why? What’s wrong with eating candy?”

Juliana was speechless at the man who asked with innocent eyes.

‘You! You are the problem!’

Louis, no, the Empire’s Lunatic, sucked on the lollipop loudly like a child.

He was watching her sleep with bright eyes. Juliana groaned because she couldn’t sleep.

‘I’m sure he stuck with me so that he could spy on me!’

‘Why did you say that yesterday…’ Juliana let out a small sigh.

She glossed over what happened yesterday by saying she couldn’t sleep and went for a walk using the exit yesterday. But that was the start of the problem. Louis declared that he would make her fall asleep and treat her insomnia himself!

‘You’re driving me crazy.”

He played a magic recording called psychological noise which was popular these days. The magic recorders were a product that recorded the sound of fallen leaves, the wind, and the burning of firewood, which soothed people.

Last night, he casually sang a lullaby to her, and today he wrapped her up tightly so she couldn’t get out of the quilt and watched her while she slept.

“….Haa.”

‘Do you really want to make me sleep or not?!’ Juliana sighed at the sound of the lollipop she had been hearing for about an hour now.

Louis’ lips glistened as he continuously sucked on the lollipop. The man, who quickly noticed her gaze, pulled the lollipop from his mouth and raised it right in front of her.

“!”

A lollipop covered with lots of saliva….

Juliana was terrified and Louis laughed.

“To Julie’s sleep.”

Juliana was dumbfounded as he made a toast with the lollipop as if it was a glass of wine. Louis telling her to sleep every day was ironically making her more awake.

“I’m not sleepy anymore. More than that, my legs hurt since I walked a lot yesterday.”

Juliana massaged her legs and spoke with a sigh. Louis tilted his head to the side and looked at her affectionately.

“What should I do, Julie?”

“…..”

“Tell me. Do you want me to give you a massage?”

Juliana raised her eyebrows at the man who responded playfully with eyes that curved into a half-moon. Louis giggled slightly like an idiot.

“Julie, ssspp, are you mad?”

He rolled the lollipop in his mouth and made slurping noises which drove Juliana crazy. His laid-back posture irritated her nerves.

“Yes, I am angry.”

Juliana raised her head proudly. Her voice sounded stuffy because she had a runny nose. Usss. She was not immune to colds… but she was immune to his wild and unpredictable craziness!

“Can you come over here and rub my legs?”

Juliana said, moving her right leg.

Her legs and the soles of her feet were throbbing so bad because of yesterday’s walk through the garden maze and as well as when she ran away from him.

He said he would give her a massage, so there was no reason for her to decline. She also thought that Louis was responsible to some extent.

She was a woman who knew how to take advantage of an opportunity.

“Why, you said you would do it, but you won’t do it?”

Louis had a dumb face, and the lollipop in his mouth fell onto the duvet. Juliana savagely waved her right leg in the air and ordered him to come and massage it.

‘Was it too much?’

With a bewildered expression, Juliana put her leg down.

“Yes, my Lady. Where is it uncomfortable?”

He dropped down to his knees like a servant and gently massaged her feet.

It was strange to feel his big palms caressing her toes.

When Juliana twisted her foot to try to get away, his hands stopped.

Juliana slowly opened her eyes.

“Sniff Sniff.”

“Gasp!”

She was surprised at the sight in front of her. Louis had stopped massaging and was sniffing his hands.

The hand that touched Juliana’s toes!!

“Are you crazy?!”

Her mind cleared as if she had been splashed with cold water. Juliana took Louis’ hand away from his face. He, who had already smelled her toes, smiled mischievously.

“It smells like Juliana……”

“…You’re crazy!”

As Louis tried to bring his palm back to his nose, Juliana freaked out and wiped his palm.

Louis smacked his lips as if he was disappointed.

He was clearly crazy.

***

Did Louis’ massage work? Juliana had fallen asleep and just woke up.

‘Why did I dream of that time?’

Juliana recalled she had dreamt of the Magic Arena a few days ago.

Did she subconsciously reenact the events that happened on that day by spraying water on Louis yesterday? Juliana just had the same dream again, she dreamt of that incident in the Magic Arena, where he dropped water on the audience.

“…..”

Come to think of it.

Juliana hardened her face.

That man.

“Just thinking about it, the way he smiled looked like he was crazy.”

She thought it was a ridiculous assumption, but Juliana couldn’t help but laugh. If the spectator she sprayed in the Magic Arena was really Louis, there was no way he would leave her be.

She was a complete stranger back then, wasn’t she? Couldn’t he just get over it?

‘No I don’t think so!’

Juliana turned her head to the side and tried to erase the afterimage of his dark hair, which jutted out slightly through his robe.

Still, she couldn’t shake her uneasiness.

Did this happen because she ruled out the possibility that Louis was the Empire’s Lunatic?

Juliana’s mind was inclined to think that he didn’t like his first meeting with her. Perhaps that was why he brought her here in retaliation.

Everything seemed to fit.

Cold sweat dripped down Juliana’s back. The Lunatic was rich, he revealed his identity and he was relatively kind to her. He also showed special attention to her health.

But Juliana could never forget. He was the Madman of the Empire. Maybe this was all the Madman’s scheme. Maybe he was using a magic trick to keep her in the Grand Duke’s residence…

“What do I do if that’s really the case?”

‘What do you mean, what do you do?’ Naturally she had to stand up against him. She remembered her last resort.

‘I guess that’s the only way.’

Teleportation.

Juliana suffered from severe teleport motion sickness. Her dizziness, as if the world spun round and round, made her feel like she was hanging upside down in the air and being pushed and pushed by a whirlwind.

‘I’m gonna fail.’

Juliana clicked her tongue. She wanted to escape through the maze garden exit, but her plan failed, so she had no choice but to use her last resort.

Coincidentally, no one was in the room.

Now that Louis was less vigilant because she had a cold, it was the perfect time to teleport.

“…I can’t stay here forever.”

Juliana clenched her fists as she rationalized. Although she still had problems that were left unresolved, she felt that she could not keep living this suffocating life forever. It was good to move as she had made up her mind

“Goodbye, Louis.”

Juliana closed her eyes and pictured the leylines that she would teleport to in her mind.

A white light enveloped her body and moved her somewhere.

“…..”

Ugh-.

Juliana lifted her heavy eyelids.

‘Where am I?’

After struggling to calm her stomach for a while, she glanced around. It was her first time in this place where she had teleported to. Juliana quickly saw the town sign.

‘Ah, there you are……. Burart Estate?’

When she teleported, Juliana set her own family’s mansion, the Duke of Hariens residence, as the location. However, the Burart Estate was about two hours away from their mansion.

‘Why am I so far away?’

Juliana tilted her head. Then she remembered that the success in teleportation sometimes depended on the distance. If the place you need to move to was far away, you may fall somewhere in the middle.

‘The residence of Grand Duke Teflano is far from the capital.’

Juliana sighed briefly. In other words, Grand Duke Teflano was about four hours away from her own mansion.

‘If it’s this far away, it won’t be easy to meet Louis again.’

Usually, nobles who entered politics built their castles on their estates and their mansions closer to the capital.

Juliana’s family, the Duke of Hariens, who had contributed to the founding of the country, both had their castle and mansion in the capital.

They were just a few minutes away from the Imperial Palace. On the other hand, Grand Duke Teflano’s residence appeared to be a few hours away from the capital.

Why did he, the only Grand Duke of the empire, build the Grand Duke’s residence… I wonder why, although he was a human being who rejected the Emperor’s throne, would he not have such worldly greed.

Because sometimes Louis seemed like he had given up on everything.

‘That’s a relief.’

Will we meet again soon? It was unlikely that the man who would have noticed her absence would follow her to the capital.

“……Ahhh.”

Juliana stopped her thoughts. She felt dizzy and her stomach became queasy again.

‘This is why I didn’t want to teleport if I could help it.’

It was then that Juliana frowned and took a deep breath. She heard someone whimpering.
