Chapter 69 Peter’s Greetings

Listening to Mary Jane’s question, Leo thought his company had negative images in the public’s eyes.

Mary Jane understood Leo’s underlying meanings and explained, “Mr. Erwin, you’ve misunderstood. I heard about your company before and coincidentally, you called me. I figured all of these were far-fetched coincidences, so I confirmed it with you.”

“What’s even more coincidental was we met each other before, Miss Jane. Fate must have allowed us to get tangled together, so you mustn’t reject attending our company’s product launch.”

“Haha, interesting choices of words, mister. Although I am usually inattentive to others’ names, I’m not face-blinded. I’m sure I can recognize you when we meet again.”

Despite the embarrassing moments of Leo mentioning their meetings twice, Leo gracefully linked his words to pique Mary Jane’s curiosity instead of awkwardness.

Leo smiled, “I’m looking forward to our meeting. Once the date of product launch is settled, I’ll notify you right away.”

“The date has not been set yet?”

“Some related issues remained unsolved but the general time has been decided. It’s on the next meet but the specific time still remains uncertain. I’m very sorry for contacting you without a confirmed date. It won’t affect your schedule, right?”

“No, no. I’m just an ordinary journalist! How could I possibly have a long schedule?”

With a twinkle in her eyes, Mary Jane suddenly had a bright idea. “Mr. Erwin, is it possible for me to inspect your company in advance? If the inspection result is great, maybe I can spread the news among the media circle.”

Mary Jane had always been interested in the El Tech Company. Now, it was part of her job requirements, so she could satisfy her curiosity!

“Of course, you are more than welcome! It’s better to do it sooner rather than later, how about we set it for tomorrow afternoon?”

“Great! I’m free tomorrow afternoon. Can you tell me the address?”

“The company’s name is El Tech Company. The address is No. 3, El Building, Main Street, New York City’s Midwest Town.”

“Okay, I noted down the address. Then, let’s meet at El Building tomorrow at 3 o’clock.”

“Sure, see you there then.”

Just as Leo was hanging up, Mary Jane suddenly voiced out. If it were not for his good listening, he might have missed it.

Mary Jane hurriedly asked, “I’m sorry, Mr. Erwin. I forgot to ask what your position in the company is. I need it for press trip registration.”

“I’m the sole board director of El Tech Company, which I founded with my own hands.” Leo chuckled.

“…”

Leo was unsure why Mary Jane fell into silence again, and thus asked, “Miss Jane, are you there? Is there any problem?”

“No, it’s nothing. I never thought your position would be that high. To be honest, Mr. Erwin, you’re quite approachable. Normally, the company’s executive would ignore us, ordinary journalists, and straight away contact our editor-in-chief.”

Leo on the other side rubbed his nose and smiled, “Is that so? Looks like I’m not doing a good job as an executive.”

Mary Jane smiled and casually chatted a bit with Leo. Soon, Leo felt the conversation was enough and said, “Miss Jane, I think that’s all for now. El Tech Company will be waiting for your arrival.”

Mary Jane agreed with a smile and ended the call.

Sitting on the sofa, Leo was recalling Mary Jane calling him an approachable person.

He never thought of himself being superior to others.

On the contrary, due to the influence of Marvel movies in his previous life, when Leo met someone with an ordinary background, he would subconsciously communicate with them in equal standing without showing excessive pride.

If they showed no malice or conflict of interest to Leo, he would prefer to hang out with them. It was better than speaking to some John Doe. Part of the reason Leo had this attitude was he was a nameless person in his past life.

However, for him to mingle well in the Marvel Universe, Leo needed to improve his social skills. At least, his action must fit with his status.

When he was talking with Mary Jane on the phone, he initially was acting like a boot-licker, but the final result was still acceptable. At the minimum, Leo had achieved his original intention.

Leo realized, with his current social status, that he must pay attention to his way of speaking.

This was progress!

……

Soon, it was evening and Mary Jane had returned home from work.

She took out her notebook and sorted out her to-do list for tomorrow. She specially prepared some questions for El Tech Company tomorrow with the current information she had.

Mary Jane was stunned by the fact that today the board director of El Tech Company had contacted her. But she was not flattered at all, she even felt the executive, Leo Erwin, was a novice in managing a company. At least he was a friendly person and they even met before.

Out of courtesy, she felt she had to take tomorrow’s interview seriously. Besides, she was very interested in the company that opened Hell’s Kitchen.

Time was ticking and soon it was 11 o’clock.

All of a sudden, the ringing phone interrupted the hard-working Mary Jane.

“Who’s calling at such a late time?” She took a sip of her coffee and picked up the phone.

“Hi, this is Mary Jane. Who’s calling?”

The phone remained silent for a few seconds. Just as Mary Jane suspected it was a wrong number, a male voice came out of it, “H-Hi, MJ. It’s Peter. I-y-you, how are you doing lately?”

Her hand holding the phone suddenly trembled a little, as if slightly excited. She pursed her lips, “I’m doing great, what about you?”

“Not bad… Well, you know, I’m always doing not bad but not that well.” Peter’s words sounded slightly incoherent.

Mary Jane instinctively curled up her lips and softly said, “Peter, we haven’t seen each other for more than three months. Why are you calling in the late night all of a sudden.”

She recalled something immediately and asked in puzzlement, “Peter, I remember the apartment you rented has no phone, right?! Did you move out?”

Seeing she was able to link a trivial matter to many things, women are indeed sensitive.

However, Peter could not think that much and was unsure why Mary Jane suddenly questioned it. So, he answered honestly, “I didn’t move out, I’m just calling you from the phone booth on the street.”

As Mary Jane imagined, her guesses were correct. The streets of New York City were full of danger in the middle of the night, she could not help to worry about her ex-boyfriend.

But she refused to show it directly, she said tactfully, “Peter, it’s already late. You know, I’m always asleep at this time. If there’s no nothing, you should hurry back to your apartment to sleep. You can call me again tomorrow morning.”

For some unknown reason, Peter’s emotional quotient suddenly heightened, he understood Mary Jane’s meaning. He comforted, “Relax, MJ. I’m calling from the phone booth outside my apartment. And you know it’s quite safe here, you don’t have to worry. Besides, I’m calling you right now because I… I have something to tell you.”

“W-what is the matter?”
