Chapter 273 A Broken Record

The H.Y.D.R.A. base was massive, with at least thousands of agents.

Upon hearing the commotion caused by the alarms, the agents hastily gathered within five minutes and charged toward the Marvel Mercenaries. However, facing the overwhelming momentum and equipment of the Marvel Mercenaries, no matter how many H.Y.D.R.A agents came, they were only marching to their demise.

Soon, the ground was littered with bodies and blood dyed the ground.

Leo had yet to intervene because his teammates already had everything under their control. It didn’t matter if he joined or not.

Therefore, when the alarm sounded, he abandoned the raging battlefield. Relying on his memories from the last time he fetched Bucky, he flew toward the depths of the base. In no time, he found himself outside a room. He reverted to his normal size and kicked the door open.

Inside the room, Supervisor Yuri stood alert while holding a handgun. The moment the door flew open, he raised his gun and fired. His marksmanship was good since the three bullets hit the Viper accurately, creating a tinkling sound.

Nonetheless, Leo remained unscathed, not even planning to doge.

The bullets in Yuri’s gun quickly ran out, leaving him in a state of terrified panic. He grabbed a nearby metal object from the table, planning to smash it into Leo. His was filled with terror as though Leo was an evil demon king, while he, Yuri, was a fragile maiden.

Sighing helplessly, Leo fired a shot of webs and sent Yuri flying into the air, pinning him against the wall to seal his mouth.

Yuri struggled frantically, but the webs from Leo’s improved web shooters weren’t something he could break free from. If Leo hadn’t recognized him as the leader and wanted to interrogate him, he wouldn’t even have the luxury of struggling.

With Yuri taken care of, only Dr. Zola and Leo remained in the room.

“Who are you? Why are you attacking our base?” Dr. Zola, the elderly on Dr. Zola’s chest, frowned and shouted. As he spoke, Dr. Zola’s mechanical arms slid behind him, attempting to do something.

Leo approached Dr. Zola while speaking out loud, “Cut the act, teacher. You know who I am, and I know what you’re up to. Listen to me, behave, and bring out the hands behind your back. We can have a civilized conversation. Or else…”

Flames suddenly flickered in the elderly’s eyes in the monitor on Dr. Zola’s chest as he angrily rebuked, “Or else what?! Leo, I’ve treated you well. But why did you betray H.Y.D.R.A.? Why are you treating me like this?!”

Remaining silent, Leo shook his head gently. In an instant, he shrunk to the size of an ant and unleashed a burst of incredible speed.

Whoosh!

Crack!

Dr. Zola’s vision momentarily blurred as the piercing sound of rushing air echoed. Right after, he heard the sound of his arms being snapped in half. He abruptly turned his head, the broken mechanical arms were sparking and crackling with electricity but he didn’t spare them a glance. Instead, his gaze fixated on the stack of photos in Leo’s hand. The photos had been neatly cut into quarters and if Dr. Zola had just one more second, he could’ve shredded them into pieces.

What a pity! Just one second short!

Dr. Zola cursed inwardly, but the elderly on the monitor continued to burn with anger, berating Leo for seeking revenge and condemning his vengeful actions.

Leo paid no heed to Dr. Zola’s furious tirade. Instead, he waved the photos in front of Dr. Zola, “Let’s see what’s so important to you, something that compels you to disregard everything to ‘erase’ it.”

Piecing together the topmost photo, he examined it carefully. It was a photo showing a vintage-looking box from the WW2 era, with a few letters printed on it. He read them aloud, “S.S.R. ITEM # 084.”

As he continued to go through the other photos, he noticed similar objects but with different numbers. Furrowing his brow, he delved into all the memories of his past and present, yet he had no recollection of these boxes.

He took the photos in his right hand and tapped them with his other hand before commenting, “Dr. Zola, these are quite valuable items! They are important artifacts confiscated by the Strategic Scientific Reserve during World War II. Fascinating, how fascinating. Is one of these items or perhaps all of them, the hope for the resurrection of H.Y.D.R.A.?”

Perplexed by these items, Leo decided to pull one over on Dr. Zola. But Dr. Zola, being wise and experienced, saw through his ploy and didn’t fall for it.

Dr. Zola refused to answer Leo’s questions but repeated his questions once again, demanding, “Leo, I’ve treated you well. But why did you betray H.Y.D.R.A.? Why are you treating me like this?!”

“You’re like a broken record! You’ve repeated the same question five times already. Aren’t you tired?” Leo rolled his eyes, “Since you’re not telling me, I’ll just find out myself.”

All of a sudden, he thought of something and pulled out a USB drive from his belt, swiftly plugging it into a nearby computer and whispering, “Steam, copy their database and search for any suspicious data.”

“Buzz! Affirmative,” replied Steam. Then, using the signal from a communication satellite, Steam remotely controlled the H.Y.D.R.A. base’s computer and easily bypassed the firewall to gather all available information.

Storing the stack of photos into his belt, Leo placed his attention back on Dr. Zola and asked, “Do you have anything you wish to say to me, Doctor?”

“Leo, I’ve treated you well. But why di-”

BAM!

Leo fired an energy blast and decimated Dr. Zola, “You’re just being annoying!”

As Dr. Zola’s robotic body shattered and scattered, a fragment of metal coincidentally pierced Yuri’s leg, causing him to cry out in pain.

Noticing the prisoner hanging on the wall nearby, Leo casually took him down and carried him in his hand as he headed to the exit.

By now, the battle in the base had ended, and the trio of brutes had stopped to catch their breath, with Matt stoically tending to his blade. Seeing Leo return with something unusually black, they gathered around.

“Here, a prisoner. Take him back to the ship and interrogate him when we return,” Leo tossed Yuri to Bucky and continued, ”You guys can head to the ship first. I’ll clean up the battlefield and join you shortly.”

The group nodded, with Bucky carrying Yuri and leading the way out of the base.

Returning to the original room, he patiently waited. After a while, Steam’s voice came through the communicator, “Buzz! All the data has been copied and the local files in the base have been wiped clean, Master.”

Leo nodded slightly and said, “Show me their inventory list.”

“Buzz! Affirmative.”

The next moment, the holographic projection screen in front of Leo displayed a dense and detailed list. Quickly scanning through it, he memorized the value and locations of all the important objects.

He then leaped into the air and flew through the base, swiftly taking all the valuable goods and storing them inside his belt.

After clearing the battlefield, a system notification popped out.

【System Notice. “Immortal H.Y.D.R.A.” completion rate: +0.5%. Current completion rate: 0.5%.】

He casually closed the system notification and proceeded to set the entire base on fire, engulfing it in flames.

Soon after, he returned to the ship and waved his hand, commanding, “Let’s return!”

The ship ascended slowly and accelerated, soaring into the sky at an altitude of ten thousand meters, heading to New York City.
