Chapter 191 Bucky’s Longing

TL: Kyous

The night in Washington was perfect and if one were to view it from above, it was even more beautiful.

Thus when Leo left Washington, he didn’t shrink down and return hastily. He chose to leisurely soar in the air at about twenty-five hundred feet without his helmet on. Regardless of how strong his body was due to the “Super Soldier Physique (Inferior)”, the occasional air turbulence and his speed would make him gasp for air.

But this sensation was truly exhilarating, similar to him speeding his bike on the highway without wearing a helmet!

Especially when he was going against the air stream, it was even more similar.

Since he was beelining in the air, he had left Washington behind and entered the suburbs area after around an hour. Right now, the vibrant illumination of the city on the ground had vanished and been replaced by pitch black. At most, there were specks of light produced by some towns and villages.

Losing interest, Leo put on his helmet and began accelerating, instantly reaching three-hundred feet in the air.

In no time, he returned to El Building. Just as he rode the elevator down to the basement, he heard Steam’s voice.

“Buzz! Welcome back, Master.” Steam continued, “Mr. Barnes just now requested entry at southeast entry. Steam informed him that Master isn’t around and he left.”

“How long ago was it?” Leo asked.

“One minute and thirty-two seconds.”

“Is he still in the office?”

“Buzz! Yes. He is still in his office.”

Without removing his armor, Leo immediately shrunk and flew out through the gap at the entrance. Soon, he arrived right before Bucky and returned to normal.

Bucky sitting on the chair was tapping the table rhythmically with his finger while daydreaming. Seeing Leo abruptly appearing, he stood up swiftly with his left metal fist tightly clenched.

The next moment, he came back to his senses and relaxed, sitting back and saying, “My office is a bit lacking, feel free to sit anywhere, Leo.”

Witnessing Leo removing the armor by waving, Bucky simply pulled a chair over and sat while clicking his tongue and adding, “Although this isn’t my first time seeing you disappearing or reappearing in front of me, I’m still surprised or rather, shocked, every time seeing this.”

Leo chuckled as he loved the feeling of acting like a ghost.

Bucky continued, “You came to find me because Steam told you I went to find you just now?”

“Yeah.” Leo nodded, “What’s the matter?”

“Of course, it’s about Natasha. How is she now?” Bucky’s eyes revealed concerns.

Thus, Leo recounted everything he knew to Bucky.

Frowning, Bucky replied, “That woman named Lindsay is very annoying! Also, why is Peggy putting so much trust in Pierce? How problematic.”

“Bucky, you must learn to put yourself in other shoes.” Leo smiled.

Bucky said, “I understand what you mean but everyone will subconsciously view a problem from their perspective. If everyone can put themselves in other shoes, then there won’t be H.Y.D.R.A. anymore!”

Leo shrugged at Bucky’s sentence without disputing.

Pondering for a bit, Bucky continued asking, “What’s your take on the matter with S.H.I.E.L.D.?”

“Nothing much, let’s just wait and see,” Leo answered, “If the situation calls it, I’ll rescue Fury and Natasha and kill Pierce.”

He then added, “Of course, I’ll do it quietly without anyone noticing.”

Bucky nodded and was at a loss for words.

“What’s up? You’re not looking for me just for this, right?!” Leo stared at Bucky, “Just spit it out.”

Bucky laughed, suddenly appearing bashful, “Can you secretly bring me to Washington? Peggy and I can be counted as old friends and not many people that I’m familiar with are still around. So I want to see how she is doing now. Of course, it’s done silently without her noticing.”

Leo’s complexion abruptly turned weird, “That’s all?”

“If possible, it would be nice if I could visit Peggy’s house.” Bucky clasped his hands together.

Leo’s complexion turned even weirder, he couldn’t resist asking, “Bucky, are you secretly in love with Peggy Carter?”

“No way!” Bucky’s response was overreacted all of a sudden. “Leo, don’t you speak nonsense.”

Leo continued to stare at him with a weird gaze.

Defeated by Leo’s gaze, he finally spat out the truth, “To be honest, I want to visit Peggy’s house because maybe I can find pictures of Steve or some mementos. I… miss him very much.” Bucky suddenly felt sad.”

“Don’t the museum have his pictures? There are even recordings about him.”

To ease the atmosphere, Leo smiled, “Like in ‘43 and ‘44, he promoted a series of songs, dances, and fighting videos. I watch them occasionally and still vividly remember them. I heard he won a lot of gorgeous ladies’ hearts.”

Reminded by Leo, he recalled Steve’s embarrassing story from those times and laughed out loud, “That’s right, he was in the spotlight and surrounded by beautiful ladies.”

He continued, “But he was only popular with the civilians. Not many soldiers on the battlefield liked him. They called him American’s Dancing Stars and Stripes.”

Out of the blue, Bucky suddenly mysteriously asked, “Leo, do you know what made Steve stop being a dancer?”

He winked, brimming with a self-satisfied expression.

Leo played along and answered, “Of course, I know. Because he disobeyed the order and charged into the H.Y.D.R.A. base to rescue you and also the 107th Regiment’s survivors. And as a result, he became famous because of this.”

“You’re great with history, Leo.” Bucky laughed while straightening his thumb. “Also, H.Y.D.R.A.… no, the Nazi’s weapons at that time were a heck of a blast!”

Bucky suddenly recalled the tragedy during the confrontation between the 107th Regiment and the Nazi army.

‘No jokes! Those weapons were powered by the Tesseract!’ Leo silently retorted.

Abruptly, Bucky was saddened, “Initially, when he received the serum, I thought he’ll still be young and strong when I’m old and even more powerful than my children. But fate is unpredictable, he walked first before me.”

Taking a deep breath, he stood up and faced the window, saying, “The pictures in the museum and various recordings about him, I’ve watched them many times. But my longing is increasing instead of diminishing. So I want to go Peggy there and see if I can find something to reassure me.”

He turned to Leo, “Leo, can you help me?”

“Memory is like a glass of wine, the more you smell it, the more you want to taste it.” Leo persuaded him.

“I’m aware of that, but I’m an alcoholic. I can’t help it.” Bucky smiled rigidly.

“Alright, I’ll help you. Wait for me for a couple of days. I’ll make some stuff and by then, I can bring you to Washington.” Satisfying Bucky’s peeping request wasn’t an issue for Leo.

“But let’s make it clear first. Only see, no take.” Leo was scared Bucky couldn’t control himself.

Nodding, Bucky answered, “Thank you, Leo.”
