Chapter 158 One Versus Two

Matt suddenly imitated a woman’s voice, making Leo shiver in disgust. He hurriedly flew away in disdain before carefully thinking about Matt’s words. Instantly, he guessed the identity of the woman upstairs.

The next moment, he promptly instructed Matt to retreat. After they sneaked back to the other side of Mingde Street, he finally stopped and signaled that it was safe.

Matt stopped his footsteps before asking in perplexity, “Mr. Erwin, why are we retreating suddenly?”

“Because the woman in Graceful Life is a dangerous person. She’s powerful, so naturally, we need to hide first.”

“Even you can’t beat her?” Daredevil was in disbelief as in his mind, Leo was undefeatable.

“I can, but it’s unnecessary.” Leo casually explained, “Let’s wait for our reinforcement to arrive first. Then, we’ll face her together. It’ll be safer that way.”

“You’re not telling the truth.” Matt had perfected his ability to distinguish the truth just by listening to the heartbeats and immediately exposed Leo’s lie.

For a moment, Leo had a constipated expression and suddenly felt a walking lie detector right next to him. Even a white lie was exposed. 

Thus, he helplessly said, “Alright, I’ll speak the truth. That woman has a mind control ability. Just look at Bucky, he’s controlled by her. I’m not afraid of her mind control, but I reckon you’ll kneel the moment you meet her. Or perhaps you believe your will is stronger than Bucky’s?”

Daredevil suddenly felt his face slapped because he could hear Leo wasn’t lying this time. Leo was worried about his safety, hence the retreat. The most awkward moment in the world is when others refuse to outright say you’re a burden, but you force the others to blatantly say you’re useless… And now, Matt was stuck in this awkward situation. So he remained silent.

“Don’t feel bad about it, Matt. You’re not a burden. Your role is great, but it specializes in providing support. You’re not suitable for charging head-on at this level of fight.” Leo sincerely said. 

Matt was able to tell the sincerity within it. To break the awkwardness, he nodded and shifted the conversation, “Who’s that woman? Both of you and Teacher Bucky seem to know her.”

“Ever heard of H.Y.D.R.A.?” Leo replied with a question.

“Naturally. The H.Y.D.R.A. organization was one of the Nazi forces led by Johann Schmidt. In 1945, Captain America, Steve Rogers led the army to strike H.Y.D.R.A.’s base and kill Johann Schmidt. After the H.Y.D.R.A. was overturned, Captain America went missing…” All of these were the contents written in junior high history textbooks. As a top student, he naturally was familiar with it. Right now, he was reciting the textbooks eloquently with no traces of stopping.

“Enough!” Leo interrupted Matt right away. Although this was how the history books in this world were written, he would feel a sense of weirdness every time he heard or read the history. It was as if this world didn’t exist at all.

After interrupting Matt, Leo added, “That woman is Sinthea Schmidt, daughter of Johann Schmidt and the current leader of H.Y.D.R.A.”

“Hasn’t HYDRA been completely annihilated?!” Matt suddenly widened his eyes, “That’s what it says in all the history books!”

“Are you a kid? How can you believe everything in the history books?!” Leo continued, “Not only H.Y.D.R.A. isn’t annihilated, but there are also even more H.Y.D.R.A. bases across the world than before, to the point of uncountable.”

Matt slowly nodded his head uncontrollably as if trying to comprehend this explosive news. Moments later, he asked, “Then, how did you and Teacher Bucky know her?”

Chuckling, Leo answered, “Now that’s a secret that I can’t tell you! You just have to know Sinthea is our enemy!”

As an understanding human, if Leo wasn’t willing to say, then Matt wouldn’t probe any further. But for some reason, he suddenly asked in surprise, “Wait, no! Mr. Erwin, if Sinthea is Johann Schmidt’s daughter, then she should be at least in her fifties now. Why is she still…”

“Active?” Seeing Matt’s hesitating tone, Leo finished the question for him.

Matt nodded, clearly unclear about this matter.

Without answering, Leo threw a question back, “Matt, guess how old is Bucky now?”

“Thirty… At most thirty-five, not more than that.” Matt said with certainty.

Leo suddenly chuckled. He mysteriously approached Matt’s ear and whispered, “I’ll tell you a tiny secret. Don’t spread the news around. Bucky and Captain America are childhood pals. Both of them also were comrades-in-arms on the battlefield.”

Hearing this secret, Matt was stunned instantly. His jaw dropped down but was unable to utter anything. He froze not just because Captain America was his idol, but with a rough calculation, it meant Bucky was at least seventy this year, yet Bucky was still this active! He found this unbelievable.

As if knowing what Matt was thinking, Leo lightly knocked Matt’s head and said, “Alright, stop your imagination. Hurry up and hear if Sinthea and Bucky had done their business or not.”

“Oh, alright.” Snapping out of his thoughts, Matt focused on his hearing. “They are wearing their clothes. Sinthea asked Bucky to bring her to El Tech Company to deal with you.”

Leo nodded and abruptly asked, “Can you listen to where Natasha is right now?”

“I’ll try.” Matt carefully listened for a bit and replied, “Miss Romanoff is just leaving. She’s driving over now.”

Leo’s flying speed was too fast. Including the time passed in Mingde Street, it hadn’t been ten minutes and Ol’ Tom had just arrived home to report to Natasha. If she drove over to Mingde Street, it still required another ten minutes. Then, it would be too late. Once Bucky and Natasha went to the more bustling streets, Leo’s movements would be hindered and huge commotions would occur. That wasn’t something Leo wished for.

Having this thought, Leo decided not to wait for Natasha and prepared to make the first move himself. Ignoring the feasibility of one versus two, he felt he absolutely had no issue in holding Sinthea and Bucky off. Once Natasha arrived, then everything was virtually settled.

“Matt, I’ll go and deal with Sinthea and Bucky first. Find a place and hide, make sure not to interfere with our fight.”

“Okay.” Matt nodded and jumped onto the rooftop before swiftly hiding in some corners.

Igniting his pulse blasters, Leo rapidly approached Graceful Life’s entrance and hovered silently. Staring at the bar, His gaze seemed to be piercing through the wall and landing on Sinthea.

Two years ago, when Leo crossed over, he was still a powerless researcher. He had to play dumb to survive when he met Sinthea for the first time. But two years later, he already possessed impressive prowess and was able to versus two as one.

Pride burst within his heart as the fire of will burned in his eyes.
