It's been a few days since I made up with my mother. It's been uneventful so far and everything is peaceful for now. But I know that this peace won't last for long. The events of the light novel begins in about a year from now, when Wu Roqing enters the palace. Me and Roqing are the same age, but my status is slightly higher than her's.

I stayed late up into the night remembering the events in the light novel. Wu Roqing and Song Laing enter the palace at the same time to learn from the palace etiquette teachers. There they meet the princes and Roqing's natural charm captures them. Song Laing falls in love with the crown prince and is jealous of Roqing and begins to torture her with all the power she had.

Laing's father shielded her many times from punishments and often took them in her place. This caused him to become frail and weak. Ultimately he gets banished with her entire family after she gets beheaded. Now that I remember this, I feel bad for judging Laing's father like that. He did love his daughter, it was just that he was so busy with an entire family to run and his work. But obviously Laing wouldn't understand, she never worked a day in her life.

This won't do, before I enter the palace I need to have skills of some sort. When I do enter the palace, I'll keep well away from the main characters. Especially Wu Roqing, but if she approaches me, I'll be really nice to her.

I am definitely not going to persue that bird brained sob of a man, Tian Mo.

Plus, they'll be about 16 and I definitely can not get attracted to them. I'm basically their grand aunty! Yes, that would be extremely wrong…

I walk up to my father's study and see that he is writing doc.u.ments. 'Nice handwriting' I thought.

I am staring at his papers, reading it. I am so glad I got Laing's memories. Learning Chinese would be painful to me.

I hear him clearing his throat. I straighten up immediately and awkwardly stand there waiting for permission to speak. Laing learnt that in her basic etiquette class but never applied it anywhere.

My father looked at me and raised his eyebrows. "Why are you here?"

Seriously old man? You still wanna act all passive aggressive on me? I looked at him indifferently and said 'I would like to take fighting lessons'

His expression changed drastically. He put his brush down and said, "Explain yourself!"

'Please Father,' I said carefully, 'I wish to learn how to wield a sword or some sort of weapon'

"And why would a young lady like yourself want to learn how to wield weapons?"

'I need to know how to protect myself…'

"You have guards!"

'Yes, but they aren't with me all the time…'

"Don't you tire of bothering me?"

Hey old man? I'm not the Laing you know, why are you hating on me? I am losing patience, but I know that deep down, he is just looking out for his daughter.

So I try the best method to convince him, which is obviously kneeling.

I drop down on the floor and kneel, and look at him. I take a deep breath and say,

'Lai'er begs father's forgiveness for acting out of turn. Lai'er hopes father will forgive her'

His expression says it all, and he mutters, "Are you possessed?"

Pffft. Close old man, very close.

I stayed silent, and hearing nothing else, I got up and started walking back to my room. Oh well, at least I tried. Looks like I'll have to train by myself…

"Wait," I hear.

I look back to see my father's complicated expression and sigh. 'Yes father?'

"I will hire someone to teach you basic martial arts for defence…"

I smile at him and give him a salute, 'Lai'er thanks father for his generosity…'

I skip with happiness all the way too my room. I am not gonna try to actually fight the prince if he comes for me, I will just learn the skills to stall him so I can get away. I am too lazy to learn hardcore martial arts, as I want to enjoy this life as much as possible.

For the remainder of the day, I was in good spirits and decided to stroll the gardens because there was nothing else to do. I wear simple dresses now, and got rid of Laing's entire wardrobe as it was too flashy and quite nauseating really.

I miss the internet so much and manga and my otome games. To pass the time I sneak into the kitchen to eavesdrop on the maids' conversations, so I can learn what's going on outside the manor.

Kira used to attend anime conventions as a cosplayer and I did her makeup, so I was pretty good at it. Though I never applied makeup on myself, I did it fairly well on other people. I've always wanted to dress up as a boy and hit on women, which might be strange.

In case you were wondering, I am bis.e.x.u.a.l. I dated a few boys before, but they always ended up cheating on me, and I turned to Kira. She is straight, but we were such good friends and she was there for me in everything.

Now that I'm in this world, I'm going to do the things that I didn't have the chance to do in my previous life. That reminds me, I haven't exactly spoken to my new siblings yet. I never had siblings before and I am curious as to how it feels like.

I whistle as I make my way to where my older brother trains. I sneak in through his front gates and watch him train from behind a tree. In the book, Song Xie hated his sister's attitude, but stayed loyal to her till the end. After he was banished, his wife's family pulled her out of the marriage and cut of all ties to him. This broke him so much that he died by drinking himself to death.

I watched him fight fiercely and I wondered how a strong person like himself could end up like that. I looked up and saw that the tree that I was leaning on had sturdy branches. I easily climbed the tree because I did this when I was younger, before I died.

From the highest branch, you can see the entire estate.

My brother finished his training, and sat under the tree I was on. He closed his eyes, and at that moment he was looking so peaceful, that I just started at him in awe. This kid was truly one of a kind, and he is only two years older than the current me.

I lost focus for one millisecond and almost fell of the branch. To avoid falling, I grabbed another branch, which made quite loud rustling noises.

This attracted his attention and he looked up to find me sitting on one of the tree arms. He jumped up immediately and looked shocked.

"Laing?" he questioned, "How did you get up there? How long were you here for?"

'Oh hello, brother,' I said politely, trying to brush off the questions, 'Didn't see you there!'

"Like hell you didn't see me!" he said angrily, "And get down from there!"

Awww… he still cares about his sister.
