The Knowledge I Live With

Chapter 2 - First months of life

I did it! I did it! I DID IT!!! For the first time in my life I turned around on my own! Soon I will be moving all around the world! Well... Soon... Just turning from my back to my stomach was enough to make me feel exhausted...

"Oh my goodness! Linette you turned around all by yourself?" My mother says excitedly. Praise me more! Have you ever seen a child as bright as me? Only at the young age of 4 months I am able to turn around all by myself. I say in my mind while smiling.

"You sure learn fast! Soon you will be able to crawl and walk on your own! I can't wait to tell Edwin about this!" Edwin is the name of my father. My mother's name is Rosalina. They have been married for two years now. They are the best family I could ask for. A loving and strict mother and a funny but reliable father. Sometimes they still act like newlyweds but I just think that it's really cute.

"You must be hungry. Why won't I feed you now and then go to the market to buy food for mommy and daddy?" my mother said as she started b.r.e.a.s.tfeeding me. At first I thought that it was weird and didn't want to eat that way, but then I realized that if I wanted to keep on living, I'd have to eat. Now b.r.e.a.s.tfeeding is normal for me. After reading my mother placed me on a little basket and we went outside together. I can't really see anything from the basket, but I still tried to listen to all the things around me. This isn't the first time I have been outside. My mother takes me out once a week to buy food. We live in the capital of Xylator, which is called Aide. Xylator is a big country in this world. The ruler of Xylator is king Thomas II. From what I have understood the king is kind and vise. The country of Xylator is a great place and it's economically and technologically more advanced than the other countries. Still Xylator doesn't have electricity or knowledge of good hygiene.

"Roselina! It is nice meeting you here. Are you going to the market?" I hear a woman's voice.

"Yes. I am going to buy some food while walking with Linette. She seems to like taking walks and it helps her fall asleep." my mother answers.

"Is little Linette doing well? I would be a tragedy for you to lose her, but there has been so many more deaths of young children that it would scare eny mother and their child." the women says. Of course children die. There isn't medicine or even proper hygiene so everyone gets sick more easily. Getting sick has been one of my worst fears too.

"She has been very healthy. It doesn't look like she's getting sick at all. I pray that it stays this way in the future too so she can grow up big and strong." my mother answers. After chatting for a little bid they say their goodbyes and we go on our way. The marked is as busy as always. Tons of people are there to buy food and supplies for the week so it's only natural for there to lots of commotion. My mother gets all the food she needs for the week. It isn't much. My mother and father eat mostly bread and a little bid of meat and potatoes, but it is enough to get through the week. Before we go back home my mother takes me to the seaside. My mother loves going there with me. I like the sea too. It's beautiful and reminds me of something... Usually my mother talks to me on the seaside. She talks to me about a lot of stuff while holding me in her arms. It feels like we are old friends who just hang around. I think the reason why she talks to me is so I learn to talk faster. Maybe I should try talking. I tried to talk before, but the words I said didn't come out right...

"Mom-my... Mo-ommy... Mommy." I say. My mother looks at me for a while. What? Did I say it wrong? "Mommy?" my mother's eyes start to water and she hugs me tightly in her arms.

"My Linette! You are amazing! I love you so much! Mommy loves you so much!" my mother says while hugging me tightly in her arms. I can't really move so all I do is let her hug me. It feels warm. I feel loved.
