The Hunter Academy

Chapter 9 - Chaos (1)

All the students left the auditorium, Arthur's talk was still in their minds.

"I didn't know anything about your father, Arthur" Jeanne spoke to Arthur as they returned to the student council hall.

"It's true, president, rumors said that you were the son of a woman from the Pendragon clan and that your father had died in battle," Curie said.

Arthur smiled slightly, those rumors were what he had purposely allowed to spread in the past. After all, both his mother and father had special identities even among the top tier.

"It is true that my mother is a member of the Pendragon clan, but my father is not" Arthur said some of the information revealed by Curie.

"So who is your father?" Allen asked. Jeanne and Aurora turned their attention to Arthur, all curious about the person who had managed to shake the current head of the Pendragon clan and one of the members of the Hunter Academy Council of Elders.

(Student council: Arthut, Jeanne. Council of Elders: Conall Pendragon, etc...)

"You wouldn't know who he is even if I'd told you, just know that he's the darkness that's been protecting humans."

"Darkness, don't you mean light?" Jeanne asked curiously.

"Do you still believe that light is the attribute of good, when it was God, the sacred being, who brought destruction to humanity?" Arthur answered with another question.

Jeanne did not answer Arthur's question, he was right after all. Humanity still unconsciously related light to good, that was something that could not be fixed in just a decade and a half.

"So is darkness the attribute of good?" Allen asked.

"No, none of the attributes indicate evil or good," Arthur replied.

"What do they indicate then?" Now it was Aurora's turn to ask. Arthur smiled as he remembered that he asked a similar question to his father.

---- A few years ago ----

Arthur trained the sword arts of the Pendragon clan with his mother. A hooded man watched them train with a smile. After a while exchanging blows, Arthur's mother sent his sword flying with a lunge.

Arthur sat down on the ground while he breathed with difficulty. He caught his breath and asked his mother.

"How's my skill with the sword, mother?"

The blonde woman smiled lovingly at her son.

"You've improved so much, it won't take you long to perfect the techniques of the Pendragon clan."

Arthur smiled at his mother's words, he then looked at the hooded man and bowed his head.

"I would like to fight you, father." The determination was visible in Arthur's eyes.

"Are you sure?" The man rose from his seat and approached Arthur.

"Yes, I'm sure this time I'll manage to hold up to ten moves."

The hooded man smiled as he saw the determination in Arthur's eyes. He put a hand on his shoulder and all the fatigue disappeared from Arthur's body.

"Well" The man stood ten meters away from Arthur.

Arthur's mother had already returned to the same place where the hooded man was watching the previous training.

With a wave of his hand, a sword flew into the hands of the hooded man. Arthur squeezed his long sword with both hands, sweat running through his sword as he felt the aura flowing from his father's body. His dream was to become half as powerful as his father.

The hooded man adjusted his strength to the peak of level 3, the same as Arthur's, the woman gave the signal and the man and Arthur disappeared and clashed swords.

Both exchanged blows one after the other, the hooded man gaining advantage with each blow. When they reached the ninth movement, the man prepared to give the final blow.

Arthur smiled waiting for this moment, his aura increased from level 3 to level 4. The hooded man's sword was sent flying and everyone stopped.

Although the exchange had only lasted a few seconds, Arthur believed it had lasted for days because of the tiredness he felt.

"I've won" Arthur muttered.

"Do you think so?"

Arthur was surprised when he noticed something sharp in his throat. He saw a sword made of darkness in his father's hand.

"Never let your guard down, you'll never know if the enemy has one more trump card" The hooded man advised Arthur.

"He, but you too have lowered your guard" Arthur pointed to the sword that was on the ground a few meters away.

Arthur saw the sincere smile on the hooded man's face.

"Do you really think you could hide your level from me?"

Arthur fell silent when he heard his father's words. He never thought he would be able to deceive him, but he tried it anyway as he wanted to surprise his father with his new level rise. He lowered his head when he thought he had screwed up.

"I'm proud."

Arthur lifted his head and looked at the hooded man. The hooded man approached him and gently stroked his head.

"To be able to achieve such a level in the art of the Pendragon sword and to achieve level 4 at the age of 16 is not something that a person can achieve with only talent and resources but also requires a great deal of work"

The hooded man removed his hood, revealing an incredibly beautiful face. He had sharp features and beautiful green eyes, his short hair was black. Arthur was stunned to see his father's face for the first time.

Arthur's father's face was 80% the same as his son's, the only noticeable difference being the color of the hair. Arthur's blond hair was the only feature he had inherited from the Pendragon clan.

Arthur's mother saw his son's stunned face and laughed slightly.

"Didn't you bet with your father that if you got to last 10 moves against him, he had to remove the hood? For that stupid bet you haven't seen his face in 5 years".

"Don't insult a knight bet, Mordred." Arthur's father reprimanded his woman.

"That's right, father and I made a promise and we had to keep it" Arthur sided with his father.

"Tch, you and your nonsense about knights" Mordred grunted when she saw that her son easily sided with his father.

"Weren't you a knight in the past?" The man mocked her.

"That's because I wanted recognition from my - "Mordred didn't finish her sentence.

She saw her son's looking with admiration at his father and could not continue with what she was about to say.

(Wasn't I an idiot who became a knight to gain my father's recognition?)

"All right, you can do whatever you want" She gave a kiss on her son's forehead and another on her husband's lips. "Remember that dinner will be ready in two hours, Arthur and Chaos".

Both nodded and Mordred left to prepare dinner for the father and son.

Arthur looked at his father with admiration.

"How did you make the dark sword?"

"Once you reach level 4, you can insert your main attribute into your weapon," Chaos explained to Arthur. "In your case they are two attributes, but your attribute of ruler is special and can not increase your personal strength so you only have your attribute of darkness"

"Why can't I use other attributes?" he asked curiously, he knew that other kids could use other attributes besides his personal attribute.

"Your dark attribute is special" Chaos thought of a way to explain it.

"Our body has a countless number of cells and among those cells there are special cells formed from mann. We measure each level according to the number of cells we get, within those cells is the power that humans can use as well as the attributes that we can use."

Arthur listened attentively to his father, it seemed that this information was very important.

"There are some attributes, like the ruler, that are called "King Attributes", they are called that way because they are attributes that have no relation with the mana cells and have to do with the aura emitted by the user".

"Is my dark attribute also a king attribute?"

"No, the dark attribute is a normal elementary attribute. But your dark attribute is different, in fact you don't possess the dark attribute."

"But my uncle said I did when I did the tests?"

"That's because your uncle doesn't know the name of your true attribute," Chaos smiled as he saw his son's confused face.

"Your attribute, like mine, is the Chaos attribute. The dark attribute is only a weak subspecies of the Chaos attribute, it is impossible for my son to be born with such a weak attribute".

"Chaos Atributte, sounds incredible" Arthur exclaimed excitedly.

"That's right, it's one of the two most powerful attributes in the world. Only the Order Atributte is capable of facing it on equal terms".

"But having this attribute has its downside, the attribute is so dominant that it doesn't allow other attributes in the mana cells and devours them."

Arthur felt that his father's words made sense, being one of the two most powerful it was impossible to share place with common attributes. An alpha lion could not share his females with weaker lions.

"Doesn't that mean we can use the Chaos attribute to devour other attributes in a fight?" Arthur asked excitedly

Chaos smiled and scratched his son's head.

"As long as your rival doesn't beat you by two levels, you'll be able to finish them off with ease."
