The Heiress

Chapter 44 - Sociallite Stupidity

"..hey uncle..are you stupid?" the little girl who was silent the whole time had finally spoken

"huh?"

"pftt" Hui Yin held back herself as she turned her back to Mr. Cheng. He could clearly see her shoulders shaking.

The old man who had beckoned the young one's closer to him, hugged the little girl tightly, not allowing her to speak any longer

"cough* you...you shouldn't say that little girl, especially to your elders" Cheng Ming-hùa admonished. The little girl brought herself out of her grandfather's tight embrace upon hearing him

"un! I will listen to what uncle is saying!" the girl nodded affirmatively

"good"

"but doesn't that reawy mean uncle is old and stupi6d?" she bobbed her head to one side innocently.

Finally, Hui Yin couldn't hold back any longer and laughed out loud. Truly a little girl's innocence is one without malice, she brings such ray of laughter. Wiping her tears from the pain of her stomach, a smile spread on her lips "Why do you say so young one?"

"Auntie, my brother told me that people who don't understand what beggars are, are stupid."

What she said made sense and Ming-hùa finally knew what caused the little girl to say this. Beggars have no home to go to. It was a fact that slipped his mind, he truly deserved to be called stupid.

"growl~~" the little girl's stomach rumbled in hunger and she shyly lowered her head.

"Miss Anna, get me a pen and paper"

"yes, Mr. Cheng"

Hui Yin walked to the car and took out a pad of paper and a fountain pen from her bag. She handed it to Cheng Ming-hùa who then gave it to the old man.

"Mr..may I know your names?" he inquired. Sensing once more that Cheng Ming-hùa meant no harm towards them, the old man cautiously wrote down his name along with the little ones' and scribbled more words then returned the paper to him.

On it read: My name is Alec Peterson, my grandchildren''s names are Rebeca Song and Howard Song. What is it that you want from us young man?

"I mean no harm sir, if you could, I would like you to come dine with me for breakfast."

Alec then replied with: In exchange for what?

The old man was becoming anxious. The man in front of him looked like an elite with a tailored suit and a clean cut hair. Never had he experienced someone like him coming to them just to ask them to eat with him, from this act, he was perplexed.

But the young man's words made him think twice of declining the incredulous offer

"While passing by, I saw these little ones' faces of hunger. It reminded me once of my childhood...I truly mean no harm upon you sir."

From those vague words that seemed to hold no meaning to him, Alec was dumbfounded. His mind tried to think of other reasons to decline the offer but he found none...

With a reluctant expression, Alec agreed

"Thank you sir" Ming-hùa smiled before looking at the children "your grandfather said that your names are Rebeca and Howard Song

The children squealed in delight as they finally knew their names "I have a name! We have a name!! Wow!!" both said simultaneously

"en, he also said that you can come with me to eat"

Hearing him say the word 'eat' the little children's mouths watered but the little boy held himself back and looked at his grandfather "is what he said true, grandpa?"

Seeing the man nod, Howard gazed back at Cheng Ming-hùa "are you really going to take us to eat uncle?"

"en"

"but we look filthy, no one ever let us in after glancing at us once"

From the little boy's gaze towards him, Cheng Ming-hùa felt that he was smart. He didn't agree to dine with him right away but made up excuses for it to try to probe his motive. For a 7 year old boy, he was m.a.t.u.r.e enough to understand circ.u.mstances.

"It's okay, we'll get you cleaned up first."
