The Heiress

Chapter 32 - MAINTAINING DISTANCE

2 months later

"Mr. Cheng, the meeting starts in 10 minutes"

Hui Yin reminded, not saying another word. She went back to work and hadn't said anything more than what was necessary. She walked and talked normally but refused to have any physical contact with Mr. Cheng.

If one were to observe from afar, they would still see the flawless coordination between the two but looking at them closely, one would see that whenever Mr. Cheng would raise his hand towards Hui Yin, she would back away in an instant, creating a certain distance between them. Of course, no one ever did since they were too busy either admiring Mr. Cheng and Miss Lin's beauty and work or loathing her for being too near him.

Even so, their interaction now was more distant than before. Cheng Ming-hùa once acted sick to get her attention out of working hours but was ignored by the lather. Hui Yin only told him to go to the hospital and ended the call.

It seemed to him that she wanted to cut off their relationship outside of work. But would he even ever allow that?

"The stocks this year had risen 3% more than the profit of last, Mr. Cheng. How impressive" Adam Davis, one of the members of the board commented. He was one of the people who supported Cheng Ming-hùa when he took over the company at his younger years.

"en. Let's start"

The board meeting started. This was one of the many things the members of the board, once feared. They usually wouldn't be able to end the meeting once conflicting decisions arrive. Once, when one of their rival companies got a hold of information regarding their marketing strategies, they spent a whole day inside the room, not one was allowed out. They were only able to do so when Theodore Voltis, a member of the board, was sent to the hospital when he lost consciousness.

They were scared of him, but he seemed to have mellowed down when his secretary was replaced.

"Our plans for the expansion of Cheng Corp. to Country D is risky" one started

"Yes, indeed" another member butted in

"ahh yes, the Lai Marketing Company has a very strong foothold there. It would deem impossible to even sell our stocks as they are well known in country D."

"There doesn't seem to be someone trustworthy enough to be sent there"

"Heh" Davis sneered looking at the other members of the board "we don't even know what the future holds Mr. Akiri. How can you say that?"

Suddenly, a lot of eyes were on to Mr. Akiri and he suddenly felt the air was suffocating

"ahem" Mr. Akiri coughed, loosening his tie from the pressure

"Ms. Lin" one word from the president made them all change their focus from Mr. Akiri to her, making her face the pressure the president held

"We are currently forming a year alliance contract with the Lai group. It states that the Lai group will not do anything to obstruct us from setting market in country D for a year granting that we will provide them with a year fund of 1 Billion RMB"

"What?!?!?"

"No. We can't do that!!"

"Why not?"

"Indeed. We could take the risk. I think it is worth the shot"

"that is outrageous!"

Complaints and agreements were voiced out as soon as the words left Hui Yin's mouth.

"We will do it"

'hsss'

Four words from the cold blooded Mr. Cheng made them clamp their mouths shut.

Indeed, they have to with no questions asked. How could they have forgotten? They may voice out their opinions on the matter but the final decision would come from him who made the company soar to great heights.

"w-who should we send there?" Mr. Voltis stuttered

"Ms. Lin"
