The First Evolution

Chapter 286: Small Town

Note: Sorry for the interruption in chapter releasing, will resume daily release now.

After 10 hours of flight, Fang Linyan and the others finally landed at a secret airport.

The vicinity of the airport is very desolate. There were hardly any plants, only dry stones, gravel, and moss growing on the ground. When the plane was landing, it would stir a gust of wind that made the broken windows of the building crackle.

Here they were again transferred to a small, battered propeller plane that could only carry maybe less than 20 people.

From the tattered sponge-cushioned seats in the cabin and the crystal-clear armrests, this plane should be very old. Fang Linyan doubted that this thing was probably older than him by three times.

The key was that before taking off, the pilot took out a small stainless steel jug from his arms and took a sip, then he whistled and took off excitedly.

Fang Linyan was sweating when the plane just took off, because a wind just happened to blow the small plane, making it skew.

The slanted plane wing was probably only 6 meters away from a towering rock below. Everyone here was holding onto the armrests while sweating on their backs.

The only one who was indifferent was the bearded pilot, who laughed and took another sip of wine. He pulled the plane up excitedly, and it disappeared into the air.

Looking down from mid-air, the terrain below was very dangerous. It could be described as badlands. Only a road like a yellow snake could be seen passing through the mountains. Any part of the road would collapse.

With such a terrain, Fang Linyan felt that he should have come to the Pamirs.

After about an hour of flight, the plane landed. The landing area was in a deep canyon. When landing, the passengers once again experienced a feeling of trepidation. The only advantage was that the landing was very covert.

There were several battered off-road vehicles parked here at the landing point. They jumped on the vehicles directly, and the engines started to roar. Finally, they reached a small town called Sandor when the sky was about to completely turn dark.

Fang Linyan also carefully observed the environment along the way, and he found that it was quite desolate. The surroundings seemed to be grayish. Even the bushes by the road were covered with a layer of dull dust. The scale of this small town was quite large. Perhaps because of the strong wind and sand and the dim sky, there were very few people walking outside.

According to Fang Linyan’s judgment, this town should be a typical resource-based gathering place. Abundant mineral deposits should have been detected in the vicinity, then a large number of people were attracted here to mine. The development of food, clothing, housing, and transportation around these people formed a temporary prosperity.

But when the resources were exhausted, the once prosperity would be gone with the wind. The small town would return to a state of dead silence.

Through the car window, Fang Linyan suddenly saw an obvious sign symbolizing radiation on the wall of a factory next to him. Now he knew that the situation here was more complicated than he imagined.

Soon, the vehicles turned into a large warehouse. The people from the Duckland Company who arrived first were in charge of receiving and assigning accommodation. It was a temporary base camp built by the Duckland Company here.

After a bumpy day, Fang Linyan drank a few sips of water, and he couldn’t wait to lie down on the bed beside him. He stretched, feeling his bones crackling all over. Fatigue surged, and he soon fell asleep.

After sleeping for some time, Fang Linyan suddenly heard 2 people talking next to him,

“Ishida-kun? Was this really a uranium mining base before?”

“Yes, Mr. Dasha, but the situation here is more complicated. When mining the uranium, silver mines with very high mining value were discovered. The place was immediately controlled by the military, so this small town of Sandor is not marked on the map at all.”

“This area was very chaotic. It was not until the forces supported by the Soviet Union entered that the basic rules were established. Since the 1980s, it had been mined for more than 30 years, and the mines were finally exhausted. This place became barren once again. It would probably disappear into the sand in a few decades.”

“However, the more advanced refining and mining technology newly invented 7 years ago was announced, and the abandoned mining area here suddenly has value.”

“An armed force called Scimitar began to station here and re-mine this place. It is said that new mineral veins have been discovered with higher-end technology. Scimitar is just a puppet on the surface. The force behind it is a Polar Bear.”

“Only according to the records, it seems that the development of silver mines is just a disguise. What really attracts people is uranium mines. On the current black market, the price of uranium is 19 times that of gold. With such considerable profits, some people will of course take the risks. “

Oh, Ishida-kun, do you think Veronica’s secret laboratory was built here also because of the mineral resources here?”

“Mr. Dasha, I can only say that this possibility cannot be ruled out…”

Hearing this, Fang Linyan felt unbearably thirsty, so he coughed softly and sat up. The 2 next to him stopped talking immediately.

Fang Linyan went out to find some water to drink, then he was called by Delto to the office besides. There were several people in the office, and it was already filled with smoke. The people in the middle were smoked like red-eyed rabbits. There was a yellowed map on the square table.

Delto first squinted and said,

“One good news and one bad news.”

“The good news is that our latest support force will be led by Tana and will arrive in an hour and a half.”

“The bad news is that in a short period of time, Tana’s men are the last support we can get.”

Hearing this news, Fang Linyan said in shock,

“Tana? Didn’t he die in the attack?”

Delto shook his head and said,

“We thought so too at first, but after we met, Tana left the base directly to receive another valuable sample, so he escaped from the disaster.”

Fang Linyan recalled and determined that the last time he saw Tana, he asked for supplies. Then, Tana asked Eisen to give him the best supplies, which sounded like he was about to leave.

Delto continued,

“We find out that the information of Veronica’s laboratory has been stolen by a commercial spy, and then leaked out. Fortunately, we have the first move, so we can use air force to fly over.”

“This time, our company has invested in this operation capital. Starting half an hour ago, the airspace within a radius of hundreds of kilometers has been locked by the company with the help of national forces. The duration is 24 hours.”

“So even if the rest of the forces can send people over, they can only use the temporary road that was used to transport the ore out.”

“That road was in disrepair too, and our men were still wreaking havoc, so we’d be undisturbed for about 30 hours.”

Then Delto pointed to the map,

“This is the original map of the town we just found. It is probably divided into three major areas: the trade area, the military camp and the refinery.”

“The trade zone is a place where miners and armed forces get drunk. There are 2 pubs, a brothel, and a casino. Because this place doesn’t produce shit, even drinking water is bitter All daily supplies are first concentrated in the trade area, then they are rationed.”

“The refinery is a strictly controlled area, where the mined ore will be rough processed and then transported out. It is listed as a military restricted area. There are warning skull signs everywhere. They even deliberately placed the dead bodies around, warning those who want to take the risks.

“The barracks is where the local armed forces are stationed. I heard that it was built at the entrance of the mine and is heavily guarded, but this has nothing to do with us. The site of Veronica’s laboratory is still 60km from here.”

“It’s just that this is a seismically active area. So far, it has suffered a strong earthquake and many aftershocks. The topography has changed significantly, so the old map can’t be used. We must find someone to lead the way there…”

At this time, someone suddenly opened the door and walked in. It was Ishida who was in the same room as Fang Linyan before. He walked over with a very ugly face and whispered a few words to Delto, and Delto immediately said in shock,

“What? There is such a thing!”

He looked around, and he finally set his eyes on Fang Linyan’s face before saying,

“Wynch, it’s an emergency. I’m not free now, so I have one task for you.”

Fang Linyan nodded and said,

“Leave it to me.”

Delto said,

“About 5km away from us, there is a signal control room. It is guarded by armed forces. I will give you 10 people. Occupy the place within an hour, then decipher the internal code. Can you do it?”

Fang Linyan knew that now was not the time to be humble,

“2 people, 40 minutes! 30,000 US dollars in cash!”

Delto took a deep look at Fang Linyan, nodded and said,

“Okay! Ishida gives it to him.”

Fang Linyan went out the door and received 30,000 US dollars in cash from Ishida, then he went out and picked 2 people to follow him. One of them was called Kaur and the other was called Lim.
