(At the captain's office)

Mya stared at the large glass window of the door with 'Captain' printed onto it in big white letters and gulped. She knocked gently on the glass and when she heard a, " Come in." She hesitantly put her hand on the doorknob and walked in.

Immediately as she went in her body seemed to slightly bow as if she was meeting royalty. And even though she was seriously sleep-deprived with an extreme headache she somehow managed to make a small smile.

"You called for me boss?" She asked.

A middle-aged woman with blond hair and hazel eyes dressed in a dark blue pantsuit stared right at her.

Mya unconsciously gulped again and waited in anticipation of what she would say.

"Come in shut the door." The chief instructed.

Mya did as she was told and gently closed the door behind her. She now stood in front of the chief's desk and the silence and sheer awkwardness didn't make it easy.

The chief stared at her as if she could see right through her soul. "You look like shit." She bluntly said.

Mya just smiled but on the inside, she raged, " Oh, says the person who got to leave last night. I'd like to see what you'd look like on nothing but caffeine and sugar for hours."

Apparently, Mya's thoughts could be read like an open book because the chief immediately replied, " I would like to stay with my people but someone's gotta handle the politics and the media circus."

Mya flinched at this and her smile grew bigger and more awkward as she started to fiddle with her hands.

"Relax I'm not going to eat you, " the chief stated. But Mya was quite doubtful, "Oh, great I so believe you now." She thought.

"Being sarcastic isn't going to make you feel any better. Now take a seat." She ordered.

Mya gulped again and quickly sat on the large leather couch, " How the hell does she know what I'm thinking?" She wondered to herself.

"Your expression makes it obvious. It's like you lose your poker face whenever you walk in here." She bluntly stated.

Mya made a quiet, "oh, " and pressed her lips shut, trying to keep her face as still as possible but she knew she had to ask the chief the obvious question.

" Uh, so why'd you call me in hear captain?"

The chief smiled making Mya unconsciously clench her fist, " It's about the case." The chief said.

Mya tensed up even more and tried to keep her face as plain as possible. "Yes, ma'am me and detective Tremaine are following a possible new lead. But I must be honest and say it is not going well.

There's very little physical evidence or digital evidence and nobody will talk." Mya explained.

The chief nodded and asked, " I heard there was a female accomplice, what about her?"

Mya raised a brow and continued, " Uh, well we're still trying to track her down. We assume that she contacted the suspect so we're going through calls made at the club."

"Mmm, good try your best to find her. The sooner we find her the sooner we can take her and her partner down." The chief coldly stated.

Mya's attempt to keep a still expression was foiled when her confusion and shock showed on her face, " Ma'am, excuse me, but you are talking about her like she wanted this happen.

Ma'am, she was almost r.a.p.ed and assaulted brutally. So even if we arrest I doubt a jury will convict her, hell, I don't even think she'll go to court. She acted in self-defense and she probably didn't know that the man would kill all those men."

The chief's smile disappeared from her face, she sat up straight and clasped her hands on her desk. "What 'attempted ****' this is the first time I'm hearing of this?" She asked.

"Ma'am, haven't you watched the security footage?" Mya asked, her gut feeling uneasy.

"What security footage?" The chief responded with a question.

"The..one..from..the..room...where the assault occurred." Mya spoke hesitantly.

"You mean the security footage that was at least ninety percent erased? I looked over the remaining footage and all it shows was the suspect entering the room and then him picking up his accomplice after obviously slaughtering and mutilating innocent men."

Mya now looked outraged and exclaimed, " Innocent?! Innocent my left a.s.s cheek! They stole, extorted, beat, kidnapped, murdered, and r.a.p.ed god knows how many people! And you call them innocent!

And what the hell do you mean you didn't see the security footage?! I saw it, the tech saw it, Jerry saw it! There have been multiple investigations into them! Are you f.u.c.k.i.n.g kidding me!?"

The chief frowned and stood up from her desk. "Mya, listen to yourself I mean you're obviously sleep-deprived. Anyone could see what happened here.

The men obviously were obviously just having a nice time together when that woman approached them, offering them a good time.

Then she called her partner before she got started and once he arrived he killed them all paying extra cruelty to the more weight-challenged man.

They then escaped by jumping out the window, probably using a parachute, a grappling hook, or maybe something else.

As for the allegations towards the men, there has been no evidence to prove that they were involved. As for the tech who 'witnessed' the footage as well. If you talk to him he also won't know what you're talking about. As for Jerry, I plan to talk to him after we're finished.

Also, you shouldn't address detective Tremaine so casually. One might say that you two were involved and that could damage your reputation not to mention your credibility. And you can't have that now, can you? So maybe you should relax, take a few days off, and maybe just stay quiet about our conversation."

It was then that Mya realized what was happening. So she shot up from her seat and glared at the chief who had just sat down next to her.

"You, " Mya muttered.

The chief just smiled at her and innocently asked, " Are you alright?"

"How much did they pay you?" Mya asked through gritted teeth.

"Hmm?" The chief made a confused sound. "How much did who pay me?"

Mya clenched her first, " Don't act all innocent. How long have you been dirty?" She asked trying to keep her volume down.

"Dirty? What do you mean? I'm very lucky. I have a house and a car that I could never afford on my salary. Designer clothes and shoes and expensive beauty treatments. In fact, I'd say I'm very clean.

You know if you'd want I could share some of my luck with you. You could quit that teaching job and take some time off. Maybe find a husband, have a few kids, retire early, doesn't that sound great?" The chief defended herself.

"*Hah* I can't believe you!? You're willing to prosecute a girl, not a woman, a young innocent girl. So you can keep your sagging a.s.s in Gucci and in a Ferrari.

My god! How could you condone that!? You're a woman, you have a mother, female friends! How would you feel when you or one of them is thrown onto a couch, duck-taped, and beaten while you're passed around like a pretty boy in prison!" Mya's volume rose again as she berated her.

The chief kept her smile and lightly sighed through her nose. "It wouldn't happen, because my mother never is so dumb to put herself in such a situation. If she did she was basically asking for it. And she taught me her ways so it would never happen to me either.

As for my friends if that ever happened to them then I would stop contact with them. As I have no time to give her any comfort for something that was her fault. Plus I would never want to be friends with someone so dumb." The chief explained.

Mya looked disgusted and it showed. "I can't believe I actually respected you. Find another person to bribe and I can't wait for Jerry to say the same thing as we report your a.s.s." She hissed and turned to leave.

But before she could leave the chief grabbed her arm and yanked her back.

Mya turned to curse her out but the words didn't dare come out. The chief glared at her with an evil smile and her nails digging into Mya's arm.

She stood up and pulled Mya closer and sneered, " I'd advise you to think that through. I have a spotless reputation and you're known for your short temper. So if anything happened to your already subpar reputation you could end up a real pariah.

I also ask you to think about your friends here. Some have families, alimony and/or child support so if they suddenly got fired for whatever reason. That would be all on you."

Mya shivered and was about to retort but the chief let go of her arm and her expression softened, " But of course that's just a suggestion now get back to work. And you really, REALLY should forget about our conversation." She said softly.

Mya rubbed her now red arm and instead of cussing her out once more. She opened the door and walked out gently closing it behind her.

"You think you can scare me, bitch? Well, your mom obviously didn't teach you this. If you come at the king you better kill the king." Mys growled to herself as she walked off, still clothing her arm, in search of Jerry.
