55. Don’t Be Mad

Translator: Iris Guo

Zhong Mingwei stared at A’Chou’s scarlet and rough scars without blinking as if he was looking at the splendid jade with flaws. They did look ugly, and even unpleasant compared with her fair skin. Suddenly, he asked: “Where’s your pendant?”

A’Chou gave a fierce shudder. Then, she straightened and buckled her collar hurriedly. However, Zhong Mingwei still saw a thin red mark on her neck, so he raised his voice abruptly: “Where is it? You were robbed?!”

“No… No…” A’Chou got anxious, covered her neck, and shook her head unceasingly, “Nothing like that. I… I just lost it when I fell. I… I’ve been looking for it for a long time, but in vain. It was getting dark and I didn’t think I could find it today, so I… just came back…”

Zhong Mingwei became furious when he saw A’Chou’s panic. He panted and gritted his teeth: “Who the hell did this? Speak! Or I’ll get mad!”

“No one… Really…” A’Chou was about to cry.

Had she known that Zhong Mingwei would get suspicious and notice something wrong, A’Chou wouldn’t have changed her clothes. Of course he would. Certainly, her petty tricks would be seen through by him who had experienced a lot.

Worked up, Zhong Mingwei was about to explode. He turned his face to the wall because he didn’t want to see A’Chou’s languid and cowardly face.

“Please don’t be mad at me!” said A’Chou timidly while sitting at the edge of Zhong Mingwei’s bed. She was such a coward. She had been afraid of Zhong Mingwei, and became more terrified when seeing his apparent anger.

“Why should I be mad?” Zhong Mingwei almost laughed, due to extreme anger. He stared at the wall in front of him and gasped for air, “They didn’t rob me!”

But undoubtedly he was mad…

A’Chou looked at the back of Zhong Mingwei’s head, but she dared not continue the conversation.

A’Chou, who was bullied outside, had to flatter and coax Zhong Mingwei at present. Inarticulate and craven, she didn’t know what to say when her fingers kept rubbing his sheet. Then, she slowly touched his finger pulps. It was obvious that she was trying to please him.

“I’m sorry. I’ll definitely be more careful.” The more A’Chou looked at Zhong Mingwei’s hands, the more aggrieved she felt, and she didn’t know why. After a while, she sniffed and whispered: “Please don’t be mad.”

“Not mad at you,” said Zhong Mingwei calmly and slowly after a long silence, “Just mad at myself. I’m useless.”

“No… No. How could you say that? It’s all my fault,” A’Chou wiped her face and hastened to speak with feigned casualness, “It’s just a pendant. What’s gone is gone. See, I’m alright, perfectly fine. Actually, I have been wearing that pendant for a few years, and I’m already tired of it. I’ll buy a new one someday. You…”

“Girl, I want to rest now.” Suddenly, Zhong Mingwei interrupted.
