12. A Living Person

Translator: Iris Guo

A’Chou found a wooden basin in a mass of weeds. Its inside and outside were very dirty and muddy, which was probably because of the rain in the last few days. She removed the dirt and poured some warm water inside. However, she couldn’t find a towel for him anywhere, so she had to put a handkerchief that she usually used on the edge of the basin. A’Chou wasted a lot of time looking for the basin and cleaning. Right now, she hastened to walk towards the main hall, wondering if the deposed Crown Prince was mad at her. According to her experience of being a maid, all the Masters were bad-tempered. In addition, her new Master used to be the incomparably noble Crown Prince, so he must be grumpier than others.

“Crown… Master!” A’Chou called him in a soft voice at the door but hadn’t got his response after quite a while, and naturally she became more restless. She continued to introduce herself, “Master, my name…is Duan Rulan… I’m from the Duan Family in the capital. The Emperor sent me to NingGuTa…to serve you. Master… May I come in?”

A’Chou waited for a few more minutes, but it was still dead silent in the room. The water in the basin would get cold, so she had no choice but to push open the cracked door with carving.

The door creaked open. As soon as A’Chou stepped into the hall, she held her breath. Why was there such a strong smell?

Moreover, the smell was so freaking terrible…

A’Chou frowned and suddenly recalled what Lao Jiang said last night.

“I never do the freaking cleaning! I’ve done all I can to help, cooking for that paralytic every day. Now I have to clean up for him? Are you kidding me? His room is full of shit, and I don’t even want to get in there!”

A’Chou was speechless with astonishment. She couldn’t believe that the former Crown Prince lived in such filthy hell. He was the eldest son of the late Empress!

How was that even possible!

A’Chou was not in the mood to check the furniture. The moment she walked straight to push open the unlocked door of the inner chamber, she immediately froze.

It already stank outside, but the smell in the chamber was even more suffocating. However, A’Chou couldn’t leave, and she had to go inside. There was still a man lying there. He was a living person… Perhaps he would be better off dead.

The sunlight came in through the open door, and A’Chou stepped on the shadow into the chamber. She wasn’t sure about what she saw until she approached the bed. There was indeed a man lying there, but she didn’t even know how to describe him.

He had disheveled hair and a dirty face. The hair was so dirty that it grew in knots and tangles. The face was covered by messy hair, so A’Chou couldn’t see it clearly at all. Her eyes moved down to his thin and pale arms, as well as his slim fingers. He definitely had nice hands, but as he was too skinny, the skin was slightly loose and sallow. Besides, his nails were quite long, over one inch long; but they were gray with no shine, and reminded others of a third-rate jade. Such a pair of hands looked strange indeed and weren’t aesthetically pleasing at all.

A’Chou dared not look down. When she entered the chamber, she noticed that his lower part of the body was naked. No matter how bold she was, she was still a girl and couldn’t stand seeing such a scene.
