[2] 宫礼(gōng Lǐ)- touching one’s head to the floor to pay their respects. The literal translation of this would be palace salutations. In ancient China, there were nine salutes or nine kowtows. From my understanding, 宫礼 would refer to 稽首(qǐ shǒu)- grand kowtow. This is the highest form of respect wherein one prostrates themselves on the ground, their left hand over their right hand place before their knees, forehead slowly lowering till it touches the back of their hands and pausing briefly there.
