The Commoner Consort: The Country's Respected Empress

Xavier finds it amazing because he was trying to gain trust of a stranger. He even abandoned his tasks of finding the culprits. Nothing mattered to him more than the lady beside him than his Brother's orders!.

He finds her mysterious by her attitude.

'She refused to go with me in horse. So she acted like a conceited Princess. Now she is walking all the way with some stranger as if no one would stop her. She doesn't had any Princess vibe except her elegant walk. Just who is this lady?!'.

Maya was looking around the way keenly. She doesn't want to get into trouble again and dreads if she would find any of 'that' in her way.

She asks absentmindedly "Does this place has snakes?!".

Xavier smirks "Does my lady fear them?".

Maya admits shamelessly "They scares me like hell".

Suddenly she remembers something 'I was...poisoned last night...How am I walking alive? How could I be alive?! Did I turn into a ghost?! But how could others see me if I become a ghost?! Did I turn into a ghost who could be visible?!'.

Her mind is running wildly with insane ideas. Because everything seems so insane for her now.

'If I am still alive even after poisoned...then anything could be possible!!'.

She knew that she is missing some important in her memory but she couldn't find any of it.

Xavier stops suddenly seeing her almost crying. 'Is she really scared of snakes or..?'.

Maya keeps on walking without noticing Xavier's complete attention on her. She didn't even noticed him stopped walking.

Xavier speaks "You would kill yourself my lady".

Maya gets startled hearing the words 'Kill yourself' and opens her eyes wide. She looks at a cliff where she was standing.

If Xavier didn't speak in time, she would have walked and fell off!.

Maya bites her lower lip ashamed and fumes "Were you waiting for me to fall?".

Xavier chuckles adoring her angry face "But I saved you, didn't I? You are not being grateful my lady".

Maya steps back and stands next to Xavier with her eyes still looking away. She felt like an idiot before this stranger!.

'How stupid I am! Now he would look down on me-'.

Xavier states slowly "Something is bothering you my lady". He knew it from the start but he doesn't want to trigger her attitude and make her guarded.

'She almost went to the cliff! She could have died if not for my presence!'.

Maya is startled by his comment and looks at him in shock. For the first time she noticed the real concern in his eye.

Actually, she notices his eyes for the first time. His blue eyes were looking through her. She doesn't want to look at any stranger but she couldn't help herself. Something about this man made her to let her guards down.

It's really tempting her to look into his eyes even more. She looks away suddenly gaining her wits back. She states "I want to leave the country...".

Xavier's eyes turned sad and mocks "You have to be alive for that my lady. Please live in the present ...with me..". He is himself astonished hearing his own words escaped from his mouth and adds immediately "So that you could leave the country soon...".

Maya nods but her eyes were still in shock. She prays his words don't have any other meaning.

Xavier starts walking fast as he felt irked by her statement. 'I wanted her to say something about her but no! She wanted to leave! She wanted to leave?! Then be it!'.

He gets angry at himself for letting his Brother down for some stranger! 'I shouldn't have brought her with me! I should have let her there and ask others to take her to the harbor-'.

He frowns at the thought uncomfortably and looks back at her running and walking with him so that she can match his speed.

Maya wipes the cold sweats from her forehead and tries to keep up to his speed. It must have been an hour but she felt so tired but she doesn't want to stop. 'This man! Why is he running suddenly?! Looking at him doesn't seem like he is running..but how can ...'.

She notices his height and snorts 'No wonder!'. Her eyes again met his and she looks down instantly as her heart started to beat like crazy.

Xavier notices how she walks and frowns "Are you hurt in any way my lady?".

Maya suddenly felt everything uncomfortable. The way he looks at her eyes...the way he pronounces the words 'My Lady'.

She couldn't afford this feeling now as she has to leave this country.

'Who knows? I might never see him in my life after leaving this country?'.

She smiles "No Sir. I am fine".

Xavier suggests c.a.r.e.s.sing his horse poudly "You can get on the horse if you are tired. My Charles won't scare you I think?".

Maya liked his idea but denies politely "Thank you for the offer Sir. But I am really-".

Xavier shrugs "Then you might want to run from here. This place is quite dangerous even in daylight! I heard there are some venomous snakes-".

Maya gasps in utter shock. Her face paled instantly and stands almost an inch space between her Xavier.

Xavier raises his eyebrows "Do you still want to walk slowly?".

'Finally I found something to tame her! Snakes my saviour!'.

Maya shakes her head "Can we leave fast from this place?".

Xavier chuckles "Only if we get on the horse and ride further for about few miles?".

Maya states blankly looking at the horse "How..to...get on Charles? I...never rode a horse before..".

'It's just about few miles...'.

Xavier gets surprised hearing his Charles's name from her. Even his own family members would forget to call Charles by his name!. Actually they didn't care except his Brother.

He smiles seeing her struggling mentally "Let me help you". He gets on the horse and forwards his hand proudly.

'Finally..'.

Maya without hesitating takes his broad hand and lets him to lift her effortlessly. She gasps feeling him behind and gets nervous. She mumbles assuring 'Only for few miles...'.

Charles neighs lifting his front legs excitedly. As if he too hated walking like a tortoise!.
