In the fall of 2017,carrying countless fans’ expectations, the Chinese division team BLK finally stopped the golden reign of championships hosted in Seoul, South Korea.

In the first year of its formation, BLK miraculously overcame all the obstacles thrown in its way. As fans sang their praises, BLK defeated many veteran teams and won the World Championship. The team’s ADC also instantly became popular within the global LOL esports circle.

That ADC player was called Northland. His play-style was like a sharp sword that sliced through the darkness that covered LPL esports, revealing the brilliant sunlight.

Even though in the following four years BLK ended the tournament in the top four, as runners-up, or failed to enter the playoffs, all of their fans still believed that Northland—Ji Beiling, their North God—would lead his team to create another miracle.

Four years later, at the peak of fall, when the  rees were covered in crimson leaves, BLK finally stepped on everyone’s doubts and reached the pinnacle once again.

As the current, most popular young actor in China, Lin Xizhou was an example of an actor gaining popularity in the traditional way. Born into a performing arts family, the young Lin Xizhou had outstanding grades. At nineteen, he worked in several recognized films and was known by his fans as the ‘Violet Star from the Heaven’ within the Chinese entertainment circle. But no one knew that under his perfect facade, he was a simple and enthusiastic gamer.

At the rebellious age of fifteen, Lin Xizhou had an innate talent for acting, yet he wanted to be a professional gamer. At that time, he was like the king of Ionia. He was unbeatable among his peers…until the day he met Ji Beiling in a ranked match.

Ji Beiling was sixteen years old at that time—a year older than Lin Xizhou—but in terms of gaming, he was a true genius. He was matched against Lin Xizhou in a ranked game. As their team’s respective ADC, the older would abuse Lin Xizhou until he was bloody every time the younger returned to the lane. Thus, he shattered Lin Xizhou’s dream of being a professional esports player. Immediately after the match, Lin Xizhou, who was not in the calmest mindset, added Ji Beiling as a friend and begged for a 1v1. The older boy accepted his challenge and beat him black and blue again in the custom match. To add salt to his wound, Ji Beiling typed one sentence in all chat:

[Not bad, but you’re one step short of being a genius.]

Since then, Lin Xizhou had become a loyal fan of Ji Beiling. He would watch every game, even when the team’s performance was at its lowest.

He also kept Ji Beiling’s old account on his friend list. He deleted his other friends, leaving only ‘Northland’ sitting quietly on his friend list.

For him, Ji Beiling was the man he dreamt of being—the hero who pressed forward, carrying his aspirations.

Like any typical fan, he crazily refreshed his feeds on Weibo, read through all the messages praising Northland’s performance, and waited for North God’s posts to appear.

Ji Beiling rarely posted on Weibo. Since he won his first championship, there were only five messages on his Weibo. One was from their first victory and the rest was Weibo wishing the user a happy birthday.

The moment the message he was expecting appeared, Lin Xizhou’s breath stopped.

BLK-Northland: [Thanks to BLK and everyone for accompanying me on this road to victory in this year’s championship. For me, this is still just the beginning, not the end. I’ll not retire until I’ve seen all the scenery. My livestream is scheduled two days from now on the Seafood Platform, livestream room 9999. See you there.]

Only the heavens knew that Lin Xizhou almost fainted in front of his computer screen in excitement.

He didn’t know when his fear of North God retiring started. But in the end, not only would North God be continuing his esports career, but he would also start livestreaming! Ji Beiling had never streamed in the past, which was a great pity for Lin Xizhou—he dreamed of throwing lots of money at North God’s stream to express his admiration for his idol. Now his dream could finally come true. He finally had a way to spend the money he’d saved in these four years!

But because his previous Seafood Platform account was banned because of a dispute he caused, he quickly contacted his younger sister on WeChat.

[Do you have a WeChat alt account that you’re not using?]

‘Ms. idolized celebrities and armed with many alt accounts’ Lin Xiting replied: [Of course, what style are you looking for?]

Lin Xizhou typed back: [Pure and innocent type, ones with low activity.]

Lin Xiting responded instantly: [I have one in mind. It was created in my junior high and I only used it for like ten days. It’s definitely a low activity account. It doesn’t have a lot of contacts, and I only posted a few Moments. You can just delete them.]

Lin Xizhou begged: [Give me the account info quickly!]

Once Lin Xizhou got the WeChat account information from his sister, he logged on to the account. Instead of checking the account’s contact or Moments, he used it to create a new Seafood Platform account. Lin Xiting set the WeChat account name as ‘Custard Cream Pineapple Bun’. She probably picked the name when she was interested in some superstition in junior high. Lin Xizhou didn’t change the account’s name, which carried over to his new streaming account. Instead, he grabbed his long-standing ‘gifting to Northland debit card’ and connected it to his account.

After browsing through the Pineapple Bun WeChat, he found his sister understated this account. Yes, there weren’t many contacts, but she posted loads of Moments. She must have deleted her eyesore, non-mainstream selfies. What was left were mutterings of:

[The roasted sausages sold at the school gate were disgusting.]

[The trigonometric function can go die.]

It was a period of never-ending scrolling. He rolled his eyes and was too lazy to delete all of them. After roughly deleting the more personal Moments, he left the rest alone.

Hiding Moments from friends after adding someone is possible, anyway.

Now that everything was ready, he just needed to wait for Ji Beiling’s livestream to start.

The Translator has something to add:

Teo: This is going to be a long ‘something’. So I tried to translate the first chapter using OmegaT. I think OmegaT is more suited for translators who don’t need MTL (AKA not me) unless I’m using it wrong. But since I’ve already started the first chapter, I might as well finish this semi-short project (I like short novels in Gongzicp (❁´◡`❁)). Also, I kidnapped Dark, Sahloknir, and Uncia for this!!

I interpreted internet slang the best I could. Also, to save time, I’ll be going off of what the author said more than ‘actually, this is how WeChat/ Weibo works irl’.

There will be LOL terms for dummy being post as chapter 0 つ﹏⊂ I won’t spend much time on it since there is like ten percent League content while the rest is more towards comedy/ romance. But if anyone MTL ahead and noticed that my translation doesn’t match the raw, I changed some gaming parts. There will gaming edits at the end. The novel was written in Oct 2018, so I’ll be using Season Eight as my baseline. I’m no mean an expert in League of Legends, but it was probably in my top five games that I spend the most hours on ( •̀ ω •́ )✧.

Please enjoy this ride.
