Surviving Zombies One Day At Time

Chapter 4 - Day before...

Her friend, Mina Jong, called her to come out and drink coffee with her. With a sigh she accepted.

''You still have those dreams?'' Mina Jong was really worried about her friend. Jenny was a nice woman that had a serious or even cold face but an extremely warm heart.

Jenny just nodded. ''The dreams are so strange, Mina. I really am starting to be anxious. You know me, I am rarely having fear. But these dreams... Could you please do me a favor and take care of your safety and food. Just in case...''

Mina just smiled brightly. ''You know my grandfather. He is crazy about those theories. He is believing stuff like alien attack, meteorite attack, ghosts and zombies, evolution, reincarnation... Just choose it. He can tell you stories. Lately, he was watching the sky and he said that there is a strange movement in the space. He fears meteorites will fall so he started buying stuff like a hamster. We have one of those old houses with underground shelters. He repaired everything and bought a bunch of stuff. I think you should not worry too much. I...''

Mina stopped as she saw her friend getting pale. ''What is it?''

''When did your father say that the meteorites will pass Earth?'' The exact date was important.

Mina just called home. ''Mom, can you give me grandfather, I need to ask him something. yes, I will tell Jenny to visit us for food.'' She rolled her eyes while waiting for grandfather. '

Jenny felt her heart burning. Let it not be true, please.

''Hello? Mina, when are you coming back home?'' He was somehow in the rush.

''Grandfather I told Jenny about your assumption and now she has few questions.'' She gave the phone to frozen Jenny that automatically asked straight away.

''Hello. When is it arriving?'' She was rude and blunt but at this moment she couldn't think straight.

Her grandfather liked Jenny quite a lot as she was a very calm and usually very respectful child. ''I think tonight of not tonight tomorrow doing the day time. Latest.''

''How comes there is no news about it?'' She just automatically asked as it was the first thing on her mind.

He chuckled coldly. ''They wouldn't let that kind of information to leak out. Such close proximity encounter with large meteorites would start panic everywhere. Go tonight in save place. Send my stupid granddaughter back home. We need to prepare.''

''I understand. Thank you for answering and sorry if I have been rude.'' She realized on time her blunder, but it seemed she was forgiven.

''No problem.'' He just gave her chuckle so she gave Mina back the phone after sending greetings to the rest of family.

Mina gave her wrongful stare. ''Jenny why are you supporting his craziness?''

Jenny was for a moment silent but then got closer to her. ''Mina, I told you about my dreams. Now the first part of my dreams is coming. Please do my favor. Just all of you stay in safety for the next two days. If nothing happens I will come to your house and cook anything you want. I promise. '' She even rose her hand to solemnly promise.

Mina still struggled but remembered Jenny's dreams and felt little fear. ''What about you?''

''If the meteorite does not hit me directly, I will indeed be completely safe. Don't worry.'' She tried to calm her down while giving her a slight smile. Mina knew her house and felt assured.

They both rushed back home while they tried to call their friend to warn them. On the way home, Jenny thought about something and before going straight to her apartment she went to the pharmacy from before.

The man was there cleaning dust around some huge glass bottles filled with dried leaves.

He just nodded. ''Miss Lin.''

Slight hesitation passed her heart but then she made a decision. ''Mike... The first part could happen tonight or doing the day tomorrow. If nothing happens then take it as I had really nasty dream. Not taking any responsibility.''

In corner of her eyes, she could see him taking out something and putting on the counter. ''This is my gift to you. I somehow feel you can use it more than me.''

She opened the thing rolled in cloth and a huge sword could be seen. She just looked him weirdly and pushed it back. ''I know what everyone thinks. But even if I do have a bit of Asian blood, I never even learned self-defense. Such a good sword could be literally wasted on someone like me. The guns and ammo I will use anyway just in the worst case scenario. But thank you.''

The sword stood still on the counter when he came even with a back halter for it. ''If there is really zombie apocalypse, then sword would help you. And you can learn it bit by bit. No one is born with knowledge. Just take it or I will take offense.'' He pushed the sword and halter to her hands and then pushed her out of the store.

When she turned around he already locked the door and put a closed sign on. What else she could do than go with that thing straight back home. When she got out the door she locked the door from the stairs and from the elevator. Then locked the huge safety door from her cage and then on her house.

She looked at how her three computers are downloading all kinds of books, manuals, movies and survival informations. The thing is that she found by the nearby merchant as many external memories as he had and attached them onto the PCs.

She changed the one that was filled to the brim and added another. She started this few days ago and already had huge amounts of information's, but is it still enough? She just planned to download more until she has no more memories or the internet fails.

That night she put the protection clothes on. Closed all shutters on her windows and open its slates just slightly so she could see through it just enough. Then she covered the windows with thick curtains and choose to sit with two guns in her hands and watch movies. Watching news will just make her more anxious so she chooses to give up that idea.

The movie was interesting but tiredness these last days hit her completely and the first time in a while she slept soundly. So soundly that she missed how the sky was covered with meteorite rain making people go on the streets and look at the beautiful sight. More and more people watched it and were directly impacted but didn't know.

From one side beautiful meteorite shower but on other side blood red moon. Both natural plays were extremely rare so they couldn't stop. But when Mina's family heard about Jenny's prophecy and these things happening, they didn't watch it then rushed inside the shelter.

If nothing happens they can call it adventure or make jokes about it. But first safety. Her grandfather was this time really happy for her help and called her with the only connection to the outer world. Land phone. But she fell asleep and didn't answer.

They felt anxious but couldn't do anything to help her. So all they could do is to lay down on prepared beds and nervously await the next morning.
