(T/N: it’s so funny to me that the title for this chapter is “Demon Girl” right after previous chapter ending)

Jiang Luo has been unhappy since Jiang Changning got the reward. She wanted to request the system to teach her a lesson, but she couldn’t buy anything because she didn’t have enough points. How could she listen to Jiang Changbai’s admonition at the moment.

Jiang Changyuan was sitting in the corner, originally genuinely happy for Jiang Changning’s award, but when she heard about Jiang Changning’s thrilling experience in the forest during the hunt, she handed over her handkerchief and looked at her eldest sister with concern.

Sensing the concerned eyes from her side, Jiang Changning felt warm in her heart and patted the back of Jiang Changyuan’s hand lightly to reassure her.

In this life, the people around me have not changed too far. I must stop Jiang Luo, shoulder the responsibility of the eldest daughter of the Hou Mansion, and protect the people around me.

When the carriage arrived at Hou Mansion, Mother Jiang was already waiting in front of the gate of the mansion, surrounded by the old maids, for a long time.

The incident during the hunt was widely circulated in the city. Jiang Changning, the daughter of the Hou Mansion, had just received a reward from the emperor, and before the rewarded person arrived home, a lot of congratulatory wishes already arrived at their mansion.

The carriage came to a stop, Jiang Changbai jumped down with his hands on the shaft and helped his sisters one by one.

At this moment, Mother Jiang couldn’t think of the weird dream she had before, all she wanted to do was to see if all the children were all right.

Aunt Xu stood on tiptoe behind the crowd and raised her head. Seeing her girl standing there in good shape, her heart fell back into her chest.

“Mother.” Jiang Changning said, watching Mother Jiang pat her hand back and forth several times. She kept saying words like: “Mother is worried.” or “It’s fine as long as you’re okay.”

Mother Jiang patted Jiang Changning’s hand in comfort. The child I watched growing up is now a brilliant person and famous all over the city.

Jiang Luo followed behind and greeted each other casually, but she was not at all energetic.

“Such a long journey, let’s go back to the house to rest.”

“Yes, mother.”

Jiang Luo had just returned to her yard and her buttocks hadn’t warmed up yet but the milky sound from the system made her feel chilly all over.

[Warning! Warning! The host needs to focus on the strategy. Now that the points have decreased exponentially. If the host does not earn any points and continues slacking off, the system will take back everything given to the host. ]

After several consecutive defeats, Jiang Luo inevitably became less motivated and when the system sensed her thoughts, it instantly issued a special warning.

Jiang Luo has already walked a long way on this road of no return, so no matter how tired she is, she must go all the way to the end.

She couldn’t accept losing everything she had gained from the power of the system, her beauty, her nice figure, power, wealth…

Mother Jiang returned to the room and finally sat down with peace of mind after seeing Jiang Changbai and the others returning safely.

The maid poured her a cup of calming green tea. The tea leaves were picked from the batch that grew on mountains full of mist and clouds, the dried leave have a deep colour. They swirled in the cup.

Mother Jiang stared at the sachet that had been hanging on the eaves of the bed for a long time and couldn’t look away once.

The rumor that Jiang Luo is a witch naturally spread to their mansion. Although the servants did not dare to talk too much, words flow like the wind, and they can’t be controlled wherever they want to.

Coupled with the past few days of hunting, the memory regarding her dream of seeing the old master that night gradually faded, and Changning was even rewarded with a new title during the hunting festival, which made Mother Jiang a little undecided about sending Jiang Changning away.

Although the old maid didn’t know about Mother Jiang’s dream, she noticed that these days, the old madam’s mind was restless. She also noticed that the second miss who usually stayed close to the madam was absent. Before, she thought that they were so close due to their bloodline but now it seems like it was not the case.

“Madam, what’s on your mind?”

After staying by her side for so many years, she was Mother Jiang’s most trusted servant. They didn’t have any scruples between them so the old maid hoped that she would share her worries.

“Did you hear the rumors about Luo’er outside?”

Looking at Mother Jiang’s expression, the old maid tentatively said, “I’m not going to hide this from Madam but this old slave has also heard about it.”

Mother Jiang took a sip of tea, her expression was kind of hazy.

It was hard for her to forget about the rumors in addition to the recent accidents that happened in their mansion. Her previous dream that suddenly appeared right after the kneeling punishment and also Changbai accidentally fell into the water…

The old maid suddenly understood, even more so that Jiang Luo is someone who just came into the house not quite a while ago. Madam’s feelings for Jiang Changning must be a lot deeper, and now she understood Mother Jiang’s meaning and said bluntly: “Madam, forgive me for talking so boldly, but since the second girl returned to the mansion, a lot of things have happened in the mansion. Why not let go of these bad omens?”

Mother Jiang also noticed it in her heart, before finding Jiang Luo, the house was safe and the brother and sister were living in harmony, but since Jiang Luo came to the house, there has been no peace for a day.

After drinking the tea, Mother Jiang made up her mind. After all, Jiang Luo is still her own flesh and blood, so she can only have less contact with Changbai.

“My lady, you scared this servant to death! The servant heard that you lured the black bear away to save the prince, and at the critical moment, you drew your bow and shot the black bear to death!” Hong Xing held back since Jiang Changning came back but now she couldn’t stop chattering.

Jiang Changning thought that her servant’s words were funny. It was not that exaggerated, but she did shoot a bear in the eye, and the rumors somehow became the story of her ‘sacrifice’.

Looking at the two pairs of curious eyes, Jiang Changning said: “There is no such thing. Although there are dangers, they are not so extreme. What’s more, the black bear was killed by the royal guards, not me.”

Recalling what happened during the hunt, Jiang Changning felt a heavy heart. She didn’t expect Jiang Luo to aim her target towards the crown prince. Worried that something might happen to her in the mansion, Jiang Changning looked at Qing He next to Hong Xing.

The girl was wearing a lotus-colored dress, and her hair was simply pulled into a peach bun. A pink velvet flower the size of a thumb is in her hair, and her face looked calm, like a green lotus, just about to bloom.

Qing He and Hong Xing entered the mansion together to serve her, but Hong Xing was a lively girl meanwhile Qing He was much calmer.

Seeing Jiang Changning’s expression, Qing He noticed that the lady has something to say to her.

Qing He knelt on the ground suddenly: “This servant’s life belongs to my lady. If there is anything wrong with this servant, please say it.”

If it wasn’t for Jiang Changning, she would have fallen into the mud now, how could she still be living arrogantly?

Helping up Qinghe who was kneeling, Jiang Changning had already thought about it in her heart. She asked Hong Xing to guard outside the door and asked Qing He carefully.

Jiang Luo was extremely anxious because of the system’s words, she couldn’t sit still in the room and simply walked around the house to think of a new strategy.

As soon as she walked to the garden, she heard Jiang Changning yelling hurriedly: “Since this is the case, why don’t you go back to your mother and let the nanny there teach you a lesson?!” The words were kind of harsh.

“This servant is wrong, please don’t send this servant away!”

Jiang Luo listened carefully for a while, and it turned out that it was Qing He taking to Jiang Changning, who was ordered to trim the flowers but damaged Jiang Changning’s carefully nurtured Iris flower that she had wanted to give to Mother Jiang.

Jiang Luo was so happy to see Jiang Changning’s dispirited look, she stepped forward and said, “Eldest sister, why bother killing others just because of a flower? It’s just a flower, just plant it again. No need to lose your temper. Could it be that now that the elder sister has won the award, she feels that she will not be kicked out of the house, so she ignores her past gentleness?”

t/n:

Don’t like Changning’s resolution to save everyone. I still believe she deserves better than them and they should receive some kind of karma for treating her like shit. But not like death or anything, I just wish for something like those ‘regretting family’ plot… surely she must have some sort of ptsd or trauma from her previous life right?
