Second Life: Welcome to Gaia

Chapter 78: Desperate times call for desperate measures

The boss threw many magic blue light balls in Ye Yan's direction, and with no space for him to dodge on the small isle, he had to jump to another one not far from him. Luckily, Ye Yan can jump around 3 meters away, or else, he would be hit by the magic balls or fall in the mercury river[1].

After Ye Yan stepped on the other isle, another round of light balls went in his direction, making him jumping have to jump again.

After the boss started attacking, Ye Yan did not have time to throw his folding fan at the spider.

He became a little frustrated because he is in a rush against time. In a few seconds, he will lose another 5% of his senses capabilities and he has dealt almost no damage to the boss.

Ye Yan focused on the battle and tried to keep away any distracting thoughts that could hinder him in using his abilities to the max.

While jumping from one small isle to the other, Ye Yan kept observing the boss and the area around him.

There are eight small isles around the boss and some not far from them that Ye Yan can use while fighting. He decided to use the small isle in the battle, jumping from one to the other clockwise, changing the pattern and using the other isles from time to time or the boss can just predict where he will go next and use a web there, just waiting for him to be trapped.

The problem is that the boss has eyes on his back. The sorting hat spider has a big hat that hidden its vision, but the hat's eyes enable it to see everything around.

Looking at the hat, Ye Yan could see that different from what he thought, the hat looks like a separate entity, which keeps showing a smirk on what looks like to be its face and keeps looking at Ye Yan with contempt.

The boss can throw his web from its from or from behind. The only difference is that when it throws the web from its front, it raises its entire body and turns the ass in a way that its spinneret can aim at Ye Yan.

At least the boss is not moving around the room. He is staying in the same small isle he was when Ye Yan entered the room. Just the reach of his skills is very far, enabling him to throw his spells in any part of the chamber.

Ye Yan starting to circle around the boss, throwing his fan every time he faces the sides of the boss. In this way, he only needs to worry about the magic balls.

However, each time he threw his open folding fan, he needs to jump to another small isle and go to the other side of the boss to attack again. He can't stay in the same place for more than a few seconds.

Ye Yan kept using this strategy against the boss while hoping that he wouldn't run out of time.

After about four minutes later, Ye Yan had already lost 25% of his five senses. His vision started to get blurred at a distance, he loses part of his sense of smell like when he got the flu, his hearing is so as good as before and he felt like his entire body went a little numb, making it harder for him use his fan because sometimes because he can't feel his body well.

In the way the battle is progressing, Ye Yan will lose his senses and be unable to fight before the boss's health points reach 50% of the total. That's why he decided to change his strategy.

Many strategies passed through Ye Yan's mind but no one of them could increase the speed that the boss is losing health points.

Ye Yan only thought of one way to speed things up in this fight, but it is too dangerous and any mistake can be fatal. However, that's the only way in which he can have a chance of winning.

Ye Yan just took a few seconds to decided his course of action but after decided, he didn't waste time and jump in the direction of the small isle where the boss is located.

In the middle of the jump, Ye Yan threw his fan at the tip of the spider hat like Indiana Jones using his whip. But he is not Indiana Jones and he is using only a silver wire. However, Ye Yan is becoming proficient in using his folding fan new functions in the most varied situations.

He will never be like Indy that can use his whip to disarm enemies, move around, or pull love interests closer to him, but he can work things out.

After his fan wrapped around the hat's tip, Ye Yan pulled the wire in a way to help him go to the part of the hat next to the tip.

He wrapped part of the wire in his own right arm to keep him in position, tied to the hat and started to punch the boss.

His punches didn't do as much damage as the fan, but as he doesn't need to worry about the boss attacks in this position, he started to deal much more damage compared to before.

Ye Yan started to punch the hat's eyes, even if it doesn't do more damage than other places, he can at least feel the satisfaction of taking the smirk out of the hat's face using his fist.

Ye Yan just wanted to have a knife in his boots, so he could also thrust it in the hat with every kick. He can't do it now because he is using an equipment set but it is a good idea for later.

As few pieces of equipment drop from monsters, forging and upgrade is how the players get most of their equipment. And the most stronger will always be those created by players with care, creativity, and high-quality materials.

However, only elite players use this method to get good equipment. Normal non-rich players can only buy junk items from NPCs or other players to use and try to upgrade their items to a little better version of the trash pieces of equipment they are using.

After a few seconds of punching and kicking the boss, Ye Yan gave a sigh of relief because the boss didn't use his magic balls on him or it would hurt itself.

Ye Yan doesn't know if he should really feel relief or regret because if the boss did use the magic balls, he could make it cause damage only on the boss, increase the damage dealt. But it would increase the pressure on him by many times. he is having a hard time keeping tied to the spider in the way it is.

As the Sorting Hat Spider can't use his spells, it started to jump around, trying to get Ye Yan away from his back, or hat.

Ye Yan is feeling like he was riding a bull in a rodeo, or maybe say that he is riding a frog would be a little more similar to his situation right now, because the spider is jumping from one isle to the other like a frog.

Even having to hold tight on the silver wire, while hitting the boss, the spider's health points is decreasing very fast.

When the boss's HP reached 10% and it became enraged, Ye Yan could only use 35% of his senses. He can only see the region around him, is almost deaf, can't smell anything, and is fighting depending on his poor eyesight because he almost can't feel his own hands and feet.

When becoming enraged, the boss started to jumping faster from one small isle to the other, while his hat started to try biting Ye Yan and casting arcane magic bolt spells on him. Luckily, the hat didn't learn how to throw curve spells or Ye Yan would be fucked right now. And it wasn't for lack of trying, because the hat was twisting the mouth, pitifully acting trying to spit bolts to the side without success.

After being enraged the boss couldn't hit Ye Yan using his magic but in compensation, its defense increases a lot, making it harder for Ye Yan to kill it soon.

After many desperate attempts to throw Ye Yan away from the boss, and many punches and kicks from Ye Yan, the boss finally died, leaving his body with its eight retracted legs and an unreconciled face on the hat.

[1] For what was written in historical documents, inside the chamber with the coffin of Emperor Qin Shihuang, the floor was an exact copy of the China map known at that time, with bronze representing the land and the liquid mercury, the rivers. There was an ancient turbine made using an underwater river and a set of gears to drive the liquid metal, making the mercury river keep flowing like a real river.
