Second Life: Welcome to Gaia

Chapter 66: It's time to duel!

After exercising and eating, Ye Yan, Hu Ling, Tang Yunfan, and Demon Fox started to discuss the guild's affairs.

Now that the guild is level 1, the player limit in the guild increased from 100 to 1,000, and they need to chose carefully the players who will occupy these slots.

The first hundred players were mostly people they knew in real life or people indicated by friends. However now, they will start expanding the recruitment to unknown players, which means they will have to be careful.

They not only need to look if the player is strong enough but if the player is trustworthy as well.

If in the beginning, the guild started to recruit any player, it will be doomed to fail without a doubt. The players that will be the base of the guild can determine its strength and success, thus it is very important to pay attention to quality.

Hu Ling contracted some players to help him in the management of the guild. They will be responsible for analyzing players' data and experiences, organizing the guild storage that is still in the bank, analyze players' contributions, and help distribute players in parties according to their level and expertise.

There is too much work to do in a guild. Luckily, they can don't need to do everything by themselves.

Ye Yan is responsible to led the main team in the game, as well as get a property for them to construct the guild headquarters.

Hu Ling and another player are responsible for gathering information for the guild.

Demon Fox and Snow White are meeting contracted players in real life to know them better.

And Conan and the others are organizing farming teams for Torment, Nightmare, and Hell Mode of White Birch Dungeon Forest. With level 7 players and better equipment, they can clear the dungeon on Nightmare Mode without problems.

The Hell Mode is still hard but worth it because of the good equipment that drops from the dungeon. And good equipment equals stronger players.

The guild's objective now is to make players get stronger. The stronger, the better. In this way, they can get more achievements and will have an easier time fighting for territory.

They know that the key for the guild to be profitable is in the properties, that they can rent for a good amount of money in the future.

Many companies are creating their own guild for this purpose. They need property for their virtual companies because many of them have migrated from real life to the game.

The rent in the game should be lower than in real life and they didn't need to worry about transport and food for their workers. They will only pay for the working hours that can be extended for a few hours in the game.

They still need to pay taxes to the country, of course.

A least, the daily time limit can help people not be exploited too much by the companies and they can use the daytime in real life to relax, increasing the live quality of the population.

Not only that, but the law about work applies to the game as well, but with few changes. Players can work in virtual companies for 12 game hours (6 hours in real) life maximum, so they can enjoy part of their game hours really playing the game.

The expanded time wasn't created for companies to exploit the workers after all. The game creators want to make Second Life a way to help people use the virtual world to increase their knowledge and help in society's advancement. This is the ideal they want to achieve.

The simulation creators want to increase the proportion of real-life hours and simulation time but the human mind can only stand the double-time. More than that and it would cause serious health problems to the players.

Many shops also want to migrate to the game but they will need to wait for when players start to own properties in the game. But while waiting, these shops are getting ready, scanning their goods for future virtual sales.

For now, only a few companies that signed an agreement with their respective government could rent the game property in advance. But the property would soon be owned by players and they would pay the rent to the owner, plus the tax to the game cities that would retain 10% of the amount and deposit the rest in the government account in the real-life bank.

..

When Ye Yan got back to the game, he went straight to the Tailoring Shop.

When he logged out before, he was inside an Inn next to the shop, thus he took only two minutes to get there.

Because some thieves can take advantage of when players just log in to steal from them, players try to enter an Inn before logging out.

If a player tries to rob people inside an Inn, they will get caught without a doubt, so it is a safe place to log out.

When the female tailor handed him his new gloves, Ye Yan becomes ecstatic because it turns out much better than he expected.

After thanking the tailor, Ye Yan didn't wait for her to kick him out and left the shop.

After eating his daily bread and water, which is the minimum a player needs to eat to not gain weakness status from hunger, Ye Yan got on his bike and went to the arena.

The arena is a wide courtyard surrounded by high walls. Inside, there is a huge tablet where is written the inner courtyards' names and who is fighting inside or if it is empty.

The inner courtyards are divided by high walls and each one of them has a large area for fighting, a grandstand, and two small hexagonal pavilions, one at each end.

The pavilion next to the inner courtyard entrance has a small balcony where is an NPC collects 5 copper coins from players who want to watch the fighting as the entry.

The pavilion on the opposite side is protected by magic and can't be touched by players. Inside, there is a magical device that can change the environment of the inner courtyard according to the players' wishes by a not-so-small fee.

Ye Yan and the others had agreed to meet in front of the arena. As it is almost the agreed time, when Ye Yan got there, only Demon Fox and Snow White hadn't arrived yet.

Spell Bound, that decided to watch the fight, was there together with the others. He will take some photos with the communication stone to post in the forum later.

He had publicized the duel in the forum to attract public attention and when they beat the other team, he will post the photos in the forum for the guild to gain more popularity.

Spell Bound is very confident about this team battle. He knows Ye Yan's fighting capabilities and had run some dungeons with half of the others, so even if it is not real life, he believes that Ye Yan can beat the other team together with the other members.

Up until now, Spell Bound hadn't seen Ye Yan lose a fight, and he thinks it will not be the first time.

Spell Bound had got the information about the other team and showed it to the players that have arrived before Ye Yan. They recognized their opponents as the players they met on the beach before.

They just don't understand why they want to challenge them because when they met, the other party was very friendly and their team has done nothing to offend their rivals.

Not matter why they issue a challenge, Ye Yan and the other will fight them and use it to increase their guild fame.

Ye Yan looked at his teammates and noticed some differences in their equipment. Their weapons in particular look much more impressive than before.

When passerby players look at them, they could even feel a kind of pressure emanating from them. Conan in particular, with his bulking body, pirate hat, and the knife stuck in a skull in his upper arm, plus the half-orc face, making him look very intimidating.

When all team members arrived, they entered the arena and were led to an inner courtyard by one of the attendants.

As the duel was promoted by the Adventurers' Guild, they don't need to register or pay in the main counter to use one of the inner courtyards.

When they entered the inner courtyard reserved for them, the other team hadn't arrived yet, thus they started talking about their upgraded pieces of equipment.

Among them, only Demon Fox bad luck when upgrading his equipment. His belt broke and he bought a new one from the guild storage, but the quality is inferior to the one that broke.

When the other team arrived, they look at each other for a few seconds. Each player with a different thought.

Ye Yan was anxious to use his new weapons and when he saw the other team, he just has one thought, "It's time to duel!".
