Second Life: Welcome to Gaia

Chapter 29: Beating them again

After killing the boss, Ye Yan finally reached level 6. The higher the level is, the harder it is to level up but, at least, the experience the players lose upon die is 1% otherwise, the majority of the players would only lose experience inside dungeons and gain none. He put the three points in strength to increase his attack and the equipment load, that is what he needs most now.

The boss dropped 5 items, one [Spider Fangs], two [Spider Legs], one [Cobweb], and one skill book that can be used for thieves, swordsmen, and merchants.

Monster drops usually are items that you could get from their bodies or skills and spells related to the monster's abilities. An example of this is the skill [Enchant Poison] that dropped from the spider boss, it can apply poison to a weapon, like the boss can use its fangs to bite and envenom their targets.

Ye Yan handed the skill book to I Love Skooma that won it in a rock, paper, and scissor game against Mad Dog and asked Spell Bound to keep the rest of the items.

They continued towards the next encampment where they defeat every goblin as they had done in the previous one and afterward, they moved on to the last part of the dungeon that showed on the map.

...

"That was difficult. The last boss is on a different level compared to the others." They had just left the dungeon after a battle of 10 minutes duration against the last boss.

"Yes. But I think that we could challenge the Hard mode next because our equipment is a little better now and even the last boss being difficult, we defeated him without too much pressure." Ye Yan didn't think that choosing the Normal mode again would be worth it. The drops weren't good enough and he wants to do something more challenging.

"I agree! And the drop rate and quality of the items should be better in Hard mode too." Dovakin would agree with Ye Yan 99% of the time because he sees him as his idol. Ye Yan's knowledge, talent, skill, and proficiency in martial arts turned him into a God-like existence in Dovakin's eyes. That's why Spell Bound and the others had doubted his sexuality and led Ye Yan into beating him in the past.

"Everyone agreed, then let's stop wasting time and enter the dungeon again." Conan started to rush his teammates because he wants to equip himself and start to gather some surplus items as soon as possible, so they could sell them now that the exchange between real-money and in-game currency will begin in two days.

They entered the dungeon again but on Hard mode. This time, they knew the map and the monsters they could find in it but they still were careful. The thief walked some meter in front of the party trying to sense if there were any new traps on this level.

They couldn't avoid the swarm at the beginning of the dungeon but, this time, they were prepared for them and had an easier time, even the honeybees being stronger than before.

The White Birch Mountain Forest on Hard mode became easier than in the Normal mode for them now that they know the terrain and the monsters' special attacks and skills. They got used to the dungeon and started to challenge it one time after another. Each run took around two to three hours on Normal and Hard modes, and between three and four hours on Torment and Nightmare.

They completed a total of one Normal mode, two Hard mode, three Torment mode, and two Nightmare mode dungeons in a day. After so many dungeons run, all of them reached level 6 and got new powerful pieces of equipment and skills. Ye Yan almost completed the Goblin armor set and got a new skill that could generate AP, so now he can use [Bash] without worry about empty his Action Points.

They decided to log out next to the dungeon gate, making it easier for them to enter it again the next day. The goblins inside the dungeon dropped many Minor Healing Potions, then they didn't go back to the city to restock and just logout to rest because even if there is no mental strain, it is tiring to do so many dungeons again and again.

Ye Yan and his friends decided to relax after log out of the game, watching some movie, eating, or doing nothing at all. Hu Ling didn't go out to meets his current girlfriend, Tang Yunfan, luckily, didn't have work today, Qian Zhong, like always, was faffing about instead of work on his new project, and Ye Yan didn't go to look at the stock prices. They sat on the couch or the floor and spend the day loafing around in the living room.

At 6 p.m., they logged in to the game again to challenge the Hell mode of White Birch Mountain Forest Dungeon for the first time. At each new level of difficulty they challenge, the monster became stronger and smarter, making it almost impossible for normal players to finish a high difficulty dungeon.

When everyone was preparing to enter the dungeon, another group of players with more than 20 people arrived near them.

"I knew we would find you here. Now, you will regret ever getting in our way!" Someone yelled at them from 20 meters away.

"Not again!" Spell Bound sighed covering his forehead with his right hand. He recognizes the one that spoke as the leader of the party they met before, that said to belong to the Slayers Guild.

"Do they come to try their luck again?" Mad Dog looked at them and remembered that the last time, they were extremely lucky and didn't drop any item when they died.

"We, from Slayers Guild, never let others bully us. Now you will face retribution for what you have done!" The party leader said in a righteous tone, like if he was a hero of justice ready to fight villains.

"Invert black and white became so popular that any pig does it nowadays." Spell Bound could not help himself and comment.

"How are you?" Ye Yan asked with a confused look. He knows that his kind of people love attention and the best way to deal with them is to ignore or treat them like someone not worth remembering. Sadly, his memory is excellent and he rarely forgot something, so he does remember who the idiot in front of him is.

"Pfft!" Some of his team members couldn't hold their laughter.

"You! I am one of Slayer Guild's future vice-guild leaders. Bow down now and I may spare you and your teammates." He said looking at Ye Yan with hate.

"Here we go again. Can't these people speak anything less cliche? At least be original or try to use some very cool movie quote and imitating some character voice. Listen to the same thing, again and again, is tiring, you know." Spell Bound said to the enemy party leader while showing an annoyed face. He hates those arrogant people that think they are the center of the universe and look down on others. It was because of people like this that others had prejudice toward him before. This kind of people thinks that only because they are rich, they can do whenever they want to others. And it results in many hating the rich.

"Stop wasting time with this trash. Let's just kill them and be over with it. I had stationed some people next to the graveyard to kill them when they leave there. They will keep killing these people until they drop every single piece of equipment they have." A thief next to the party leader whispered to him.

"Good," he said smirking. "They will see with who they messed with. Humpf."

"Kill these people for me!" He ordered his underlings.

They run and attacked Ye Yan's team, which wasn't any bit afraid. The last time, they defeat them easily and this time, even the enemy having more people, would be easier, because now, they are geared with good equipment and have more powerful skills and spells at hand.

They went into formation, with physical class in front and the magical classes, mages and doctors, behind. Each mage got a new spell from the dungeon and learned how to use it in a combo, increasing the damage they deal.

They didn't wait for the enemy to attack first. The system can judge who takes the initiative like before that the enemy encircled them and the system considered it as they initiating the fight. The God-system in Second Life is very fair and judge accordingly with the situation, then it is impossible to cheat it, baiting the enemy into attacking.

Ye Yan used his skill [Bash] on them, which could kill every one of them with one or two attacks. He didn't want to waste too much time on them, so he used his strongest skill, which doesn't have a cooldown, until he spent all his AP. He could use his new skill [Roar] later in the dungeon to regenerate AP, so he isn't worried.

The mages started to use their combo spells in the opponent tanks. Dovakin used his new skill [Water Ball] to throw a ball of water in an area 1 meter wide, wetting 2 to 3 enemies at the same time. Mage of the Cold Nights use [Ice Bolt] on one target and Spell Bound use [Lightning Bolt], both inflicting triple damage in the wet enemies.

The other party members used powerful skills as well to kill them as fast as possible. I Love Skooma use [Bellow the belt] to deal a huge amount of damage and inflict [Pain] on the male targets, Mad Dog use [Slash] and [Chop], Conan attacked with the [Clive] skill, and Demon Fox used [Sharp Arrow] and [Triple Shot]. In the end, the battle against the 30 enemy players finished faster than the last one against 10. But this time, they weren't as lucky because many items were left in the place their bodies fell.

Now that the bother is gone, they can finally enter the Hell mode dungeon.
