Samurai Showdown With Kakashi

Chapter 54 - Shisui's Samurai Misadventure - Part 1

With a concentrated flow of chakra, Shisui's genjutsu perfurated my head with a hold of his hand, and a tale of his past began.

(Shisui's perspective)

- This is starting to get boring. - I sighed as I finished throwing all the kunai for the tenth time.

Today had been a calm day. No new threats to the village and no missions available. Normally I wouldn't mind it, but when it's the seventh day in the row, it just gets tiring. I had gone to the forest to entertain myself, put fifteen targets around me, and attempted to hit them all at once. I didn't get it on my first time, but when the next nine times were successful, the excitment just wasn't there. That was when I heard some noise coming from the nearby bushes, like the wind, but heavier. Someone was trying to sneak up on me.

I had no remaining kunai with me, so I was in my most defenseless situation, so I had to think fast. If someone were to attack me, they would probably do it from within the bushes, by throwing either weapons or ninjutsu. The normal option would be to burn the flora around me with fire jutsu, but it would be such a waste. Who knows what kind of animals could be around? Plus, I had a better way to investigate my surroundings, my Sharingan.

I looked around to trace the assailant's chakra, but he didn't seem to be anywhere around the ground. That's when I felt the presence of someone coming from a tree. He leapt from it to strike me, but a simple ninja wouldn't be able to hit me so easily. I took a step sideways, and twirled around to confront the man, as I began to do some hand signs. I saw him do them as well, as his face was hidden behind an animal mask:

- Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu! - We conjured in unison.

The fireballs negated each other. I can't believe he is capable of keeping up with my ninjutsu, and now I really am in trouble. He took out a kunai, and stood waiting. It seemed like he expected me to wield my own, but why would he...

- Come on Shisui, use a kunai. - The man took his animal mask off, revealing his true identity.

- Seriously, Itachi? You actually scared me there for a second.

- You would have been fine if you just knew how to fight. - He walked to one of the targets, and took out a kunai, throwing it at me. I grabbed it, and he said. - Now, where were we.

He approached me and striked with full force, as I blocked each of his attacks.

- What are you doing here? - I grazed his hand, forcing him to back away. - I thought you were pretty busy with the ANBU. - He threw his kunai upwards, and leapt at me with well timed taijutsu. My eyes would allow me to counter his moves, but his would do the same. It's the usual stalemate, but I had the advantage of a weapon.

- I thought I'd come by, and ask if you're interested in joining me in a mission. Plus it's always nice to check up on a friend I haven't seen in a while. - He kicked my hand, shooting the kunai upwards, as he caught the one he had thrown beforehand. Now he has the advantage.

- I thought ANBU's missions were top secret. Can you really tell me about them like that? -My kunai was falling from the sky, so I decided to approach it, but the moment I was about to reach it, Itachi threw his, locking both our weapons in a tree. - That was pretty dumb. You just lost your weapon.

- Yeah, I already regret it. - Itachi didn't seem too regretful though.

- I suppose it's time to stop. We both know you win in a duel of pure Taijutsu. - Itachi seemed to be caught by surprise by this remark.

- It's unusual to see you so humble. - Itachi sat down, and so did I. None of us was tired, but we both knew the conversation was getting serious. - I heard about what happened to you. I wish I had been there. I'm sorry.

- Are you kidding, Itachi? None of that was your fault. I can only blame myself. If I hadn't been so envious, he wouldn't have died. That's why I must train. So that I no longer may have these putrid feelings.

- So you're going to become the strongest so you can no longer feel envy for others? I'd say that's pretty stupid, but I fear you might just be able to do it. So... did you unlock it? The Mangekyou Sharingan?

- I did. Too bad the cost had to be so great.

- What do you expect? There are consequences to power. Can I see it? - Itachi seemed pretty anxious. He hadn't gotten his, and it was pretty rare amongst our clan, so I did as requested. - Wow, your eyes look like a shuriken. What abilities did you gain?

- Honestly, I'm not sure. I know I can summon a Susano'o, even though it's too tiring to show it to you right now. But I haven't really tried to see what my other ability is. It's usually said that an Uchiha may lose his eyes if they were to use their specific ability. I want to use it only if it's strictly needed. Now, Itachi, I think we've gone too off topic. You said something about a mission.

- Hey, this talk wasn't pointless. Now I know you're just the right person to ask to help me with this. - Itachi took out a poster from one of his pouches. It showed the face of a man, as well as a high bounty, but there was something else that bothered me.

- It says here he is a samurai. That... - I can't believe he was even considering this. - That's so far away from what we wish to protect. What does this have to do with you? Did the ANBU order you to do this?

- No. It was the samurai general himself.

- I never thought a kage-level individual would seek out the help of another village's special forces.

- Well, he says that he has some history with the Uchiha, or at least, his ancestors do. Apparently many years ago in the Land of Iron history, Uchiha and samurai fought together against these aliens called Otsostsuki. It felt like he was playing a prank on me, but he seems to firmly believe in it. The only reason I was contacted was because he thought of me as the strongest from our clan. - Lucky him. Damn it, there goes my envy again. Repress it, Shisui, come on. - That's why I came here to meet with you.

- What do you mean?

- I mean that you're the most capable of our clan, Shisui. He should have contacted you, not me. - I hope he doesn't see that I'm blushing right now.

- Why didn't you refuse the request?

- The man they are hunting seems to be too dangerous. He was capable of dealing with a samurai general and his two guards at the same time. If he were to leave that land, who knows what his next target would be.

- You're not one to act on assumptions. Thanks for coming here, but I'm not interested.

- Fine then. I guess I'll tell the samurai general I'm the best Uchiha in our clan, but he probably already knows it. - I can't believe he's using my weakness against me. I can't let him succeed.

Itachi looked back with a wry smile, before preparing to leave. Don't say anything. Don't say anything!

- Wait! - Ahhhh! Why do I always disappoint myslef. - I can't let you go and lie like that.

- I thought as much. Come on, the Land of Iron is more beautiful than you can imagine.

I reluctantly followed, feeling defeated as I leapt from branch to branch. I asked him:

- So who is the guy they are hunting for?

- His name is Odaku Samunashi. Apparently, he killed the previous samurai general.
